Chapter 243: Yan Yichen's Transformation (Part 2)

Bai Zhi seemed to remember something and quickly pulled out of his embrace, patting him all over. “You’re not hurt, are you?”

Her touch sent an inappropriate stir through Lang Qiu’s body. His eyes darkened, and he answered hoarsely, “I’m not.”

To keep her from noticing his condition, Lang Qiu asked, “Why are you down here so late? Couldn’t you sleep?”

Bai Zhi answered honestly, “I was a little thirsty and came down for some water.”

Lang Qiu led her to the sofa to sit down, then went to pour a glass of water and handed it to her.

After she finished her water, Lang Qiu swept her into his arms and carried her upstairs.

After bringing her back to her room, he didn’t leave right away. Lang Qiu took a box out of his space and handed it to Bai Zhi. “This is for you.”

Bai Zhi stared at the box, stunned for a moment. “What is this?”

Lang Qiu explained, “It’s Wolf Clan Black Stone. I made it into a bracelet. See if you like it. If you don’t, I still have some left over and can make it into whatever you’d like.”

But what he didn’t say was that this was the only piece.

Its name was Sun and Moon Shining Together.

Wolves are creatures that love the moon, and within this Black Stone lies a sliver of moonlight. No matter how it’s cut, that white silhouette is always visible.

And to him, Bai Zhi was now that sliver of moonlight.

Bai Zhi opened it and took a look. It was a bracelet made of countless small black beads, long enough to wrap around her wrist several times. But strangely, she seemed to see a white, luminous mark on every polished surface of the beads. It wasn’t a reflection of light, but rather seemed to be shining from within.

Bai Zhi murmured, “It’s so beautiful.”

Hearing her words, a hint of a smile appeared in Lang Qiu’s eyes, and the corners of his lips curled up unconsciously. “I’m glad you like it.”

“Thank you, I love it,” Bai Zhi said, immediately trying it on with excitement.

It was a long while before she put the bracelet back in the box.

Afterward, the room fell silent. Lang Qiu rubbed his fingertips together, seemingly lost in thought.

Bai Zhi bit her lip and said, “It’s so late. Why don’t you rest here tonight?”

She had barely finished speaking when Lang Qiu immediately agreed, “Alright.”

It was as if he had been waiting for her to say it.

Bai Zhi paused. “Then you should go wash up first.”

Lang Qiu agreed and went into the bathroom. By the time he came out from his shower, Bai Zhi had already fallen asleep waiting.

He stood by the bed, gazing at her for a few seconds, a sense of peace welling up in his heart. Then, he quietly got into bed and fell asleep holding her.

The next day, the two of them came downstairs together. Yue Junxiao saw Lang Qiu and froze for a second. “Lang Qiu, when did you get back? We didn’t even know!”

Then he saw Bai Zhi next to Lang Qiu and instantly understood that Lang Qiu had slept with Bai Zhi last night.

Yue Junxiao’s voice drew everyone’s attention.

Lang Qiu said, “I got back last night.”

Hu Yan nodded. “It’s good that you’re back.”

In the following days, life returned to normal. Lang Yue and Lang Yu’s work for Bai Zhi flourished; they grew more and more enthusiastic, even providing her with many new ideas.

Bai Zhi promoted them both on the spot, putting them in charge of managing that star system.

Only Yan Yichen was somewhat downcast. Of Bai Zhi’s five Beast Husbands, he felt he was the most useless—he had the weakest spiritual power and no background.

Yan Yichen’s unusual behavior caught the attention of the others.

Bai Zhi took it upon herself to act as a counselor and went to find Yan Yichen. She sat down next to him and said half-jokingly, “I think I’m pretty good at this whole counseling thing. Want to give it a try?”

Yan Yichen looked at Bai Zhi with a gloomy expression. “My Lady.”

Bai Zhi said, “Your mood has been off for the past couple of days. Everyone is worried about you.”

Yan Yichen bit his lip. “I’m sorry for making you all worry.”

“We’re a family; it’s only natural for us to worry about you. Can you tell me what’s wrong?”

Yan Yichen was silent for a moment before saying, “I just feel like I’m so much worse compared to them. Hu Yan is the Third Prince, Sang Mo is the head of the Black Domain, Yue Junxiao is the Young Master of Fierce Tiger City, and Lang Qiu was once a leader. Only I am nothing. I have no family, no background, and my spiritual power is the weakest of them all.”

Hearing this, Bai Zhi finally understood. Yan Yichen was feeling a sense of disparity. He thought they had all been the same, but now he realized they were all extraordinary, while he was the only ordinary one, which was causing these negative feelings.

Bai Zhi didn’t offer comfort, but instead asked, “If you had a powerful background and they didn’t, would you resent them? Would you look down on them?”

Yan Yichen replied instinctively, “Of course not. They’re my companions.”

Bai Zhi continued, “Exactly. And they feel the same way. No matter what your status is, you’re their companion. The things you’ve all been through together are irreplaceable. If we’re going by your logic, then I should be the one feeling this way. After all, I’m not a Princess and I don’t have a powerful background, yet I have so many amazing Beast Husbands. Other females would be dying to show off if they had just one. If they knew I had so many, they’d probably be jealous enough to kill me. They would definitely say I don’t deserve you—that you’re all so powerful, that Hu Yan is the dream lover of every female in the Federation, yet he’s paired with an ordinary female like me with an average face, an average figure, and no background.”

Hearing Bai Zhi disparage herself like that, Yan Yichen immediately became agitated and retorted, “That’s not true! My Lady, you are wonderful, and you treat us so well! You’re the best in the world!”

Bai Zhi said, “See? You’re wonderful in my eyes, too. Your feathers are beautiful—I’ve told you that before. You’re also very strong, just a little behind them for now. “It’s not unfair.”

Yan Yichen hugged Bai Zhi. “Thank you, My Lady.”

That night, perhaps because of the change in his state of mind, a golden light suddenly erupted from Yan Yichen’s body as he slept, enveloping him and lifting him into mid-air.
