After the Divorce, My Wife and I Were Both Reborn
Chapter 378: My Wife’s Deeper Meaning
Chapter 378 -374: My Wife’s Deeper Meaning
After finishing the last section of the script for the Cat and Mouse movie, Jiang Xia rubbed his wrists and let out a soft sigh.
He glanced at the time in the bottom-right corner of his computer screen. It was already past eight in the evening. The sky over the Imperial Capital had gone completely dark, and the city outside was a dazzling spectacle of lights and life.
He walked out of his office and saw someone from the animation team still working overtime. After asking about their progress and seeing they weren’t too far behind, he told them to head home early.
Pushing open the door to the recording studio, he saw Lin Yanwan still diligently arranging music.
“Time to clock out, sweetheart~” Jiang Xia said with a soft chuckle.
Lin Yanwan looked up, excited. “Honey, come listen to this piece! Tell me what you think.”
“Go ahead and play.”
Lin Yanwan nodded, her eyes on the sheet music in front of her as she slowly pressed the keys.
Melodious piano music filled the room. Jiang Xia closed his eyes, immersing himself in the sound. The brilliant, nimble melody washed over him like a breath of spring, brimming with youthful energy. The entire piece had a free and varied rhythm, with the characteristics of a rondo—lively, coherent, and a perfect fit for the Cat and Mouse theme.
For the finale, the piece returned with a variation on the first theme’s melody before coming to a clean, crisp end.
Jiang Xia slowly opened his eyes and asked with a smile, “What piece is that?”
“‘Voices of Spring Waltz.’ It’s an immortal masterpiece from my past life by the famous Austrian composer, Johann Strauss II,” Lin Yanwan replied.
“So? Is it suitable?”
“It’s suitable, all right, but… won’t there be copyright issues?” Jiang Xia asked, frowning slightly.
“You don’t have to worry about infringement at all,” Lin Yanwan said with a smile. “I checked online. In this world, Johann Strauss II never existed. And even if he had, he’d be long dead by now, so the copyright protection period for his music would have expired. We can use it freely.”
“Then there shouldn’t be any problem,” Jiang Xia said, breathing a sigh of relief. “But, honey, for a 90-minute animated movie, a single piece isn’t going to be enough. You’ll have to prepare more for me.”
Lin Yanwan nodded. “Alright.”
As a music teacher in her past life, she knew an abundance of pieces and could recall many classics with ease.
“So, ready to call it a day?”
“Uh-huh. Just give me a minute to pack up, and I’ll be ready.”
Five minutes later, they walked arm in arm to the parking garage at the Science Park. Lin Yanwan got into the passenger seat and was gazing out the window at the city nightscape when her stomach suddenly started to GROWL.
“Want to grab a bite?” Jiang Xia asked.
Lin Yanwan blinked. ‘My wonderful husband knows me so well.’
“I’m craving barbecue.”
“Barbecue it is.”
Jiang Xia started the car. A little over ten minutes later, they arrived at a popular barbecue stall. The air was thick with the fragrant aroma of cumin.
Lin Yanwan got out first. Jiang Xia said, “You go ahead and order. I’ll find a parking spot.”
“Okay.”
A few minutes later, Jiang Xia entered the barbecue joint and found his wife. On the small rectangular table sat a glass of iced Coke and a glass of kumquat lemon tea.
“Why do you get to drink Coke while I’m stuck with lemon tea?” Jiang Xia protested, adjusting a nearby fan so the breeze would hit him.
“Because Coke kills sperm,” she said with a grin.
She made a show of taking a long, noisy sip right in front of him. ‘Drinking an ice-cold Coke in this hot weather feels absolutely incredible.’
“That’s been debunked! It’s all about the dosage—anything else is just fearmongering!” Jiang Xia grumbled.
“Still no.”
Lin Yanwan huffed softly, his protest denied. ‘Anything that could affect our ability to have children has to be taken seriously.’
Even though they weren’t planning on having kids just yet, and their life as a married couple was very active, this was an issue she couldn’t be careless about.
Jiang Xia watched wistfully as his wife drank her “happy water” while he was stuck with lemon tea. ‘Even though the tea tastes great and it’s refreshing in the summer heat,’ he thought, ‘it just can’t compare to the real thing.’
“So, what did you order?”
“Guess.”
“I can’t.”
“Hehe, you’ll find out in a little while~”
A little over ten minutes later, the owner brought a large platter of grilled skewers to their table.

“Honey… do you think I’m not good enough in bed?” His eye twitched.
“Of course not! I just see you working so hard day and night, so I simply wanted to help you… replenish your strength,” Lin Yanwan said with a completely earnest expression.
“But you didn’t have to get so much…”
“I was actually worried I didn’t get enough. Eat up, eat up~” she said, batting her eyes.
“I’m telling you right now, I’m off this weekend. You are playing with fire!”
A look of grim determination crossed Jiang Xia’s face. He picked up a skewer of lamb testicles and took a large bite. The seasoning masked the gamy flavor, and the texture was surprisingly good.
Watching him devour one after another, Lin Yanwan couldn’t help but recall the intriguing look the owner had given her when she ordered all this.
‘I only meant to help him build up his strength,’ she thought. ‘I didn’t mean to serve myself up on a platter.’
‘Looks like I really have brought this on myself.’
About half an hour later, they were driving home. Lin Yanwan was silent the entire way, her face flushed, and the air in the car had grown thick with a palpable, amorous tension.
The moment they got home, Jiang Xia pinned her against the door and crushed his lips to hers.
“Honey, I was wrong,” Lin Yanwan whimpered pitifully.
“How could my brilliant wife possibly be wrong?”
Jiang Xia blocked the doorway, a deceptively gentle smile on his face. “My dear, you have to take responsibility for your own actions. You were in such a hurry for me to… build up my strength. You must have had your reasons, right?”
“BOO HOO… Honey, I’m not feeling well today. I think I might be getting my period.”
“Don’t even try to fool me. It’s only the 3rd today; your period isn’t for at least another week.” Jiang Xia saw right through her lie. ‘I know my wife’s cycle like the back of my hand.’
Lin Yanwan knelt on the floor, and as she looked up, the overhead light cast dramatic shadows across her delicate face.
