Chapter 387: Chapter 382: I Said I’d Hug You, So I Must Hug You

"Dork, I finished my exam!"

The moment she stepped out of the exam hall, Shen Ying eagerly called Wang Ming.

"Congratulations! How did it go?" Wang Ming chuckled.

Shen Ying said with confidence, "I’m sure I scored over 90."

"Impressive! Look at you, your grades in college are better than mine."

"What’s the use of good grades in college? It’s the college entrance exam scores that really matter~"

The thought of her low score on the college entrance exam made Shen Ying frustrated. If only she had come to her senses a little earlier, she might have been able to go to university in the Imperial Capital with them.

"Besides, you’re much busier than I am. I just spend more time studying than you do," Shen Ying said.

"My standards aren’t high. As long as I pass all my classes, I consider it a win," Wang Ming laughed.

"Ying, are you heading back to your dorm to pack now?"

"Yeah. I have to grab a bite at the cafeteria first and say goodbye to my roommates, then I can head to the airport."

"Don’t bring too much stuff. I’ll buy you things when you get to the Imperial Capital," Wang Ming said earnestly.

"I have clothes to wear. Why would you need to buy me anything?"

"Because I want to. Are you going to stop me?"

"Dork..."

She chided him gently, a smile spreading across her face. "Alright, I’m hanging up now. I’m going to eat with my roommates."

"Ooh, ’dork’... so cringey! Ahh, Yingying, I’m sorry, he’s your dork, all yours..."

Hearing Shen Ying’s roommate teasing her, Wang Ming chuckled. "Mhm, talk to you in a bit."

After hanging up, Wang Ming’s eyes crinkled in a smile. His girlfriend’s gentle voice still seemed to echo in his ears. The thought that he would see her in just a few hours made his heart pound with excitement.

"Ying, I miss you so much..." he murmured.

◇

11:40 AM.

"Dork, I’m on my way~" Shen Ying texted her sweetheart as she sat down on the light rail.

"Heading to the airport now?"

"Mhm!"

"It seems pretty far from where you are to Jiangbei Airport, right?"

Shen Ying looked up at the map above the door. "It’s a bit far. It’s about an hour and a bit on the light rail."

"Your flight is at 2. Will you make it in time?"

Wang Ming frowned slightly. Even after arriving at the airport, there was still a whole bunch of hassle to deal with, like going through security, getting a boarding pass, and checking luggage.

"Don’t worry, I’ll make it."

Shen Ying smiled. To ensure a smooth trip to the Imperial Capital, she had already done her homework. She estimated she would arrive at the airport around 1:20. It would be a little tight, but she should still have enough time.

"That’s good."

"Dork, I heard the Imperial City Airport is huge. Will you be there to pick me up?"

"Of course! I’ve been dreaming about this day for so long, constantly rehearsing in my head how I would meet you."

Shen Ying giggled. "You’re exaggerating."

"I’m not exaggerating at all. I miss you so much, Ying," Wang Ming breathed out, a smile already stretching from ear to ear without him even realizing it.

"Idiot, idiot, idiot. We’ll see each other in a few hours."

Shen Ying’s face flushed slightly. There was a time when she couldn’t understand why girls always acted so cutesy with their boyfriends in a relationship. She had seen Lin Yanwan and Jiang Xia together, always engaging in public displays of affection, with eyes only for each other.

It wasn’t until she started dating Wang Ming and they entered the honeymoon phase that she found herself subconsciously saying things that would sound silly and cringey to others.

But she reveled in it.

"By the way, aren’t you supposed to be at work today? Did you take the day off?"

"Hehe, I talked to Old Jiang, and he gave me five days off to spend with you," Wang Ming typed excitedly. "My mom almost found out this morning."

"Huh? Your mom... did she... did she find out?" Reading his reply, Shen Ying suddenly grew nervous, feeling like a daughter-in-law about to meet her mother-in-law for the first time.

"Nope. I came up with a quick excuse to cover for it, so she still has no idea you’re coming to the Imperial Capital."

Shen Ying let out a soft sigh of relief at his words.

1:27 PM.

The light rail arrived at Jiangbei Airport Station. There was only half an hour left until her flight’s departure.

"Dork, I’m at the station. Can’t talk now, I’m heading to security."

"Okay~"

Shen Ying sent a kissing-face emoji, then shoved her phone into her pocket. Grabbing her suitcase, she got off the train and jogged, following the signs. After passing through the first security check, she successfully reached the airport terminal.

Boarding pass, luggage screening—after methodically completing each step, the terminal broadcast announced that boarding had begun for her flight.

Shen Ying sighed in relief. She wasn’t early, nor was she late. She had made it just in time.

1:50 PM.

She queued up with the other passengers to board, sending a message to Wang Ming at the same time.

"Dork, I’m at the gate getting ready to board~"

"Yay!"

"My phone will be off once I’m on the plane, so don’t worry. I’ll contact you the moment I land!"

"Mhm, I’ll be at the airport to pick you up."

Wang Ming cracked his knuckles, his fingers trembling slightly as he typed, "Ying, can I give you a hug when we meet?"

"Dork, can I give you a hug when we meet?"

Ehehe?

Wang Ming blinked. Even though Shen Ying had just copied and pasted his message, the subject was different.

"Whoa! So happy! So excited! Spinning in circles! Crawling with excitement! Undergoing mitosis! Screaming! Rolling around gleefully!"

"You silly dork. Okay, I have to go now, I’m getting on the plane."

Shen Ying smiled like a fool as she read his text, already picturing him jumping and hopping around, mad with joy.

2:00 PM.

Shen Ying’s flight departed on time for the Imperial Capital.

Wang Ming sent her several messages but received no reply, guessing that her phone must be turned off by now.

He looked at his reflection in the mirror. The hairstyle he’d fixed this morning was still neat, and his outfit was just right. He wrapped his arms around the empty air, simulating the moment he would hug Shen Ying.

He let out a soft breath, then ran into his mom’s room and spritzed a little of her perfume on himself.

’That should be about right,’ he thought to himself, sniffing his shirt.

"Old Wang, go meet the girl you love with confidence and courage! You can do it!" he shouted at his reflection.

Then he took a deep breath, grabbed his phone, and strode purposefully out the door.

After taking a taxi to the Imperial City Airport, Wang Ming arrived at the arrivals hall early. He waited anxiously as the minutes and seconds ticked by. If he’d ever wondered what it felt like for a day to stretch on like a year, he knew now.

5:38 PM.

Suddenly, a text came in from Shen Ying.

"Dork, I’ve landed! Where are you?"

Wang Ming looked up toward the arrivals gate. Shen Ying, wearing a light blue floral dress, was slowly descending the escalator. His breath caught in his throat.

She spotted him in an instant.

Pulling her suitcase, she ran toward him with a smile, then suddenly leaped, throwing herself onto him.

"Dork, I said I was going to hug you, and I meant it."
