Alien Species Invasion? I Kill Them Back.
Chapter 300: Nostalgia
Chapter 300: Chapter 300: Nostalgia
The report came from a young girl who called the Inspection Bureau, claiming her boyfriend had been taken over by an Alien Species.
The operator followed standard procedure, telling the girl to stay calm, find a safe place to hide as soon as possible, and avoid any further contact with her boyfriend.
But the girl was emotionally unstable. By the time the inspection team arrived on the scene, the young couple was scuffling in the middle of their residential complex. The man was yelling, the woman was crying, and the commotion they were making had attracted a crowd of curious neighbors.
This was an extremely dangerous situation. If the man really was an Alien Species, the onlookers could easily get caught in the crossfire.
Feng Ling parked her van at the entrance of the residential complex. She saw that He Xingluo and He Yue Ning were already there, along with Fan Ze, who was directing his squad to disperse the crowd.
A short distance away was the quarreling couple.
The woman clung to the man, refusing to let go, and wailed, "You are an Alien Species! You’d never break up with me otherwise!"
The man, his expression full of annoyance, forcefully pried her off him. "Are you nuts? This is exactly why I’m breaking up with you—you’re a neurotic mess! And you actually called the cops? You’re completely out of your mind!"
The twin sisters watched the pair with exasperated expressions.
The woman was sobbing so hard she could barely breathe. After being pushed to the ground, she scrambled back up and desperately clung to the man’s legs, screaming hysterically, "Don’t go! You can’t leave me!"
She turned her head and cried out to He Yue Ning, "He really is an Alien Species! He even forgot my birthday! My boyfriend would never forget my birthday!"
Meanwhile, the man was explaining to He Xingluo, "She’s just neurotic. She claims I don’t love her over every little thing. I try to break up with her, and she threatens me by calling the police. She’s completely insane."
Feng Ling sat in the van, enjoying the show. She turned to Huangfu Miaomiao beside her. "Is he an Alien Species?"
Huangfu Miaomiao, who was pressed against the window, nodded. "Yep, he is."
"He’s a good actor," Feng Ling commented approvingly.
"Should we get out of the van?" Huangfu Miaomiao asked.
"Let’s watch for a bit. It’s their first time responding to a call." Feng Ling propped her chin on her hand, gazing out with keen interest. "We’ll only step in if we have to."
Besides, she was curious to see how Inspectors normally handled an Alien Species hidden among a crowd.
The Alien Species taking over hosts now were different from the initial wave. Most were on their second or even third incarnation, so they had a better understanding of human society. They had also learned plenty of deceptive tactics from player forums, allowing them to act more and more human.
He Xingluo stopped the young woman from pulling at the man and turned to him with a frown. "That’s enough. You’re coming back to the Inspection Bureau with us for an assessment."
"What assessment?" The man was clearly taken aback before exploding in anger. "What the hell is this? She’s obviously just trying to get back at me! And you people actually believe her ridiculous story? Wasting our taxpayer money on this nonsense! I’m going to report you!"
The woman sat on the ground, weeping. "I’m not... I’m telling the truth... He’s an Alien Species, he has to be... My boyfriend would never treat me like this... WAHHH..."
Perhaps because she was so overwrought, her words were becoming incoherent. The onlookers in the crowd didn’t seem to believe her. They murmured amongst themselves, thinking the girl was being malicious and that they should have just had an amicable breakup.
He Yue Ning, looking slightly annoyed, said, "Even if you want to file a complaint, you have to do it at the Inspection Bureau. Let’s go. If there are no issues with your assessment, you’ll be free to go home."
The man’s face was filled with suspicion. "What kind of assessment? How long will it take?"
He Xingluo said, "It’s very simple. You’ll fill out a few questionnaires, and then we’ll keep you under observation for twenty-four hours. If there are no issues, we’ll let you go."
The man eyed them skeptically. "...Just twenty-four hours, and then you’ll let me go?"
He Yue Ning frowned. "Only if there are no problems! If there *are* problems, you’ll undergo a second assessment! The second assessment requires seventy-two hours of observation at the Inspection Bureau!"
Feng Ling noticed that while He Yue Ning and He Xingluo were talking with the Alien Species, the Special Attack Team had already cleared out an open area. Fan Ze and his squad members had subtly moved into key positions, each with a hand resting on their weapon, shifting into a state of high alert.
Clearly, Fan Ze had realized their suspect wasn’t human long before the twin sisters did.
It was a keenness honed by years of fighting Alien Species.
Having encountered so many Alien Species, he could tell if something was off based on just a few words or a subtle expression. You could call it a sixth sense.
The Alien Species seemed to sense the deadly aura emanating from Fan Ze.
The man sneered, glancing at Fan Ze before turning his gaze back to the twin sisters.
"You aren’t going to let me go..." Its expression twisted into a savage snarl. "You won’t!"
It spun around and lunged, bounding toward the complex’s outer wall!
At the same time, arthropod-like appendages sprouted from its sides. Its lower body whipped around like a centipede’s tail as it scrambled furiously up and over the wall!
The crowd cried out in shock!
Inside the van, Feng Ling was also taken aback. "Well, what are the odds," she said. "It’s a Red Ghost Centipede."
She had that Card, too—several of them, in fact. The creature before her was just a standard insectoid transformation. Feng Ling was used to seeing all sorts of gigantic Pollution Bodies; a monster like this just made her feel nostalgic, it didn’t stir any will to fight.
The entire Special Attack Team gave chase, the sound of gunfire cracking through the air!
The young woman, who had been weeping moments ago, was no longer crying. She just sat on the ground, completely stunned.
He Yue Ning and He Xingluo ran out of the complex, one after the other, and immediately gave chase in their car.
No matter how fast it crawled, a centipede was no match for a car.
Feng Ling started her engine and followed them to watch the show.
They had driven less than two hundred meters when the centipede monster leaped over another wall, using the barricade of the complex across the street to dodge the Special Attack Team’s fire.
He Xingluo slammed on the brakes and yelled, "We can’t let it hurt anyone!"
Fan Ze immediately ordered the patrol cars to turn around and enter the complex, while the sisters, He Xingluo and He Yue Ning, sprinted straight for the wall!
Feng Ling assumed they were going to climb the wall too, but a second later, as if performing a magic trick, the twins’ bodies passed straight through it!
Feng Ling stared, stunned.
The complex wall was made of individual metal bars. While there were gaps between them, they were definitely not wide enough for an adult to fit through. It had all happened so fast that Feng Ling couldn’t tell if they had squeezed through the gaps or actually phased through the wall itself.
By now, He Yue Ning and He Xingluo had caught up to the centipede. Bone Chains, over ten meters long, shot out from the palms of their hands, piercing the centipede’s carapace from both the left and right!
The centipede monster roared and spun around to lunge at the sisters!
Suddenly, cyan flames, half a meter high, erupted along the white Bone Chains!
"Whoa," Feng Ling murmured, watching the scene through the complex fence. ’What kind of technique is that?’
The cyan flames flared in the wind, engulfing the creature’s entire body in an instant. With a WHOOSH, the centipede convulsed and collapsed!
It tried to rise and struggle, but He Yue Ning strode forward, her left hand transforming into a bone spike that she decisively plunged through the centipede’s head.
’Little Moon might be all laughs and giggles usually,’ Feng Ling thought, ’but she’s ruthlessly efficient when it’s time to work.’
"Oh yeah! We did it!" He Yue Ning spun around, ready to high-five He Xingluo.
Feng Ling couldn’t help but chuckle. "The Card hasn’t even manifested. It’s a bit early to celebrate."
