Chapter 850: Chapter 850: Unlucky Twin Sister (79)
If she didn’t like it, she absolutely wouldn’t say something against her conscience just to spare his feelings.
"Giving me this gift—what is it that you want?"
Linn Huai: "I don’t want anything. I just wanted to give you this gift and make you happy."
Even though he really did want things between them to develop further, there was no way he’d ever make that kind of demand just because he’d given her a present. What would that make him?
Using a gift to blackmail her into agreeing to him?
Leaving aside that he was unwilling to do that, she also wasn’t the kind of person who’d be held hostage by a mere gift.
He drew this Hundred-Faced Map purely because he wanted to give it to her, hoping she’d be happy when she received it.
Qiann Yan tapped lightly on the table with her fingers. "It’s a pity I can’t take this thing with me."
Linn Huai didn’t really understand what she meant and quickly interpreted it as: "Are you talking about a hundred years from now? If you really like it, you can have them burn it for you a hundred years later, it’s the same thing. Or have it buried with you in your coffin—then it counts as taking it with you."
Qiann Yan: "..."
"The painting is so meticulously done; burning it would be a waste. Leave it—this is your work."
Back in the Cultivation World, Qiann Yan had tried to bring back to Great Rong a Space Treasure bound to her soul, but it was completely useless. Once she returned to Great Rong, the soul-bound Space Treasure had already vanished.
In one particular world, she had even bound the soul of a Stone, yet she still couldn’t bring it back to Great Rong.
For now, the only thing she could freely carry back and forth was that giant sword of hers, which wasn’t restricted at all.
So she made a guess: if the Space Treasure she bound were of the same material and Level as that giant sword, then she should be able to bring things back.
But that giant sword seemed to be something she was born with; the chances of finding a Space Treasure with similar Level and material were very slim.
There were many things she wanted to bring back to Great Rong, but because of the limitations between worlds, she’d never succeeded. Luckily, she had a good memory.
"Yanyan, let’s go to the shop and try on the dress," Linn Huai said. After the birthday banquet she’d be heading back into the lab.
"Okay."
...
Before going into the lab, Qiann Yan heard about Pei QianLann’s situation. Apparently, she’d been sent to the station for stealing Zhu Family property and selling it off.
The evidence was solid; judging by the amount, she’d get three to ten years.
And after the Zhu Family sent Pei QianLann to the station, they started looking for all kinds of ways to revive the Zhu Family, even going back to the Ma Family for help.
Ma Yuman had complained to Qiann Yan that the old lady actually wanted her to marry Zhu Menghui, so that the Ma Family would help the Zhu Family.
She and Mrs. Ma joined forces and cursed the old lady out so hard it was like flaying her alive, then directly moved back to Mrs. Ma’s parents’ home.
President Ma later used some method—Qiann Yan didn’t know which—and in the end the old lady went to apologize in person, promising never to bring it up again.
The Zhu Family’s plea for help was thus dropped.
"Qiann Yan, thank you. Because of you, my mom finally got to hold her head high after all these years of swallowing grievances."
"You’re welcome. Just make sure you recommend Linn Huai’s work more to your girlfriends—he’s holding a fashion show at the end of the year."
Ma Yuman: "Oh come on, when are you going to give him an official status?"
"Don’t get all passive-aggressive. When the time’s right, it’ll happen."
If he were in Great Rong, she wouldn’t be this wary. She could keep him right under her nose, and even if he had a system, she wouldn’t be afraid.
But his background was mysterious, and she knew nothing about his true identity. Of course she had to stay on guard, in case he was a honey trap sent by the enemy.
Qiann Yan thought it over: if this really was a honey trap, sending someone with Linn Huai’s level of talent... they were certainly willing to invest heavily.
