Chapter 468 - I still owe you that drink
Chapter 468: Chapter 468 - I still owe you that drink
Ravyn dropped his gaze, a crushing weight sinking deep into his chest. Even after all this time, he still hadn’t tracked down the bastards behind those chemical explosions.
Every single lead had crumbled into nothing, and with each passing day the failure ate away at him more and more.
It was the same chemical explosion that trapped Seraphine for months in a hospital bed, fighting for her life while Ravyn went ahead to coronate Daisy as Seraphine’s co-Luna.
By the time she pulled through, she unexpectedly signed the divorce papers and ever since, Ravyn had never been the same.
He let out a heavy sigh, but then Voren’s promise floated back into his mind. His tight expression eased just a fraction. "You know what? Forget it," he muttered, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Voren already swore Doctor Ash would handle those warriors personally." If Voren gave his word, that was it. There was no going back on it, end of story.
Corvine sat down majestically, radiating that natural confidence that always pulled eyes his way. Before he could even get settled, Athaliah reached over and gave his hand a gentle squeeze.
A huge, genuine smile lit up her face, her eyes sparkling with open admiration. "Beta Corvine, you blew way past my expectations," she said, her voice buzzing with excitement. "How about I buy you a drink tomorrow?"
Corvine froze completely. His fingers went stiff under hers like his brain had just short-circuited. The sudden warmth of her touch threw him totally off balance.
Athaliah noticed right away, her eyes widened in surprise. "Oh..." Embarrassment flooded her cheeks as she quickly pulled her hand back, taking that sweet spark of warmth with it. "My bad," she laughed, a little awkward but still warm. "But I still owe you that drink."
Corvine stayed quiet, his face barely neutral, but inside he couldn’t stop remembering how incredibly soft her hand had felt against his. Not far off, Kael watched the whole thing with a big, amused grin pulling at his lips.
Man, if he could mind-link Corvine right now, he’d be roasting the guy. He could already picture him trying and failing to keep it together.
Athaliah had always had a thing for strong men, the kind who carried real confidence, solid leadership, and that natural authority people just followed without question.
Her definition was an Alpha, but Corvine had been stepping into that role more and more every day, and Kael couldn’t help smiling to himself.
At this rate, Athaliah might actually stand up to her own father for Corvine one of these days.
Clear across the gym, the vibe was the complete opposite. Daisy’s jaw was clenched so hard the muscles in her face were twitching. Her nails bit into her palms as pure rage surged through her.
Once again, Seraphine had won. Every single time Daisy thought she finally had her cornered, Seraphine slipped away victorious and left her looking like a fool. It made her blood boil so hot she could barely breathe.
She hated even sharing the same room with her. Watching everyone admire Seraphine, seeing powerful people rush to defend her, and hearing all the praise, it felt like everything Daisy had fought tooth and nail to build was slowly crumbling away.
Today’s plan had blown up in her face completely. Instead of humiliating Seraphine, she’d only humiliated herself. Her breathing turned ragged as another furious wave crashed over her.
Fine. Tomorrow was the Full Moon Festival. She’d make sure Seraphine paid for every ounce of humiliation she’d caused. Daisy’s eyes burned with deep, dark hatred. She just had to wait one more day.
Meanwhile, Seraphine felt completely drained. All the endless conversations, the constant eyes on her, and everything that had gone down since they got to the gym had sucked every last drop of energy out of her.
She reached out quietly through the mind link. ’I’m exhausted. I want to go.’
Voren got the message loud and clear. Without a word through the link, he stood up right away. His movement caught Ravyn’s attention immediately. "Where are you going?" Ravyn asked, surprised. "You haven’t even made any business contacts yet."
Voren just shrugged. Business? That had never been why he showed up. The only reason he’d come to this whole thing was because of Seraphine’s revenge program.
At first, it was to mobilize all the werewolves to prepare for the blood moon festival but now, the priority had changed.
Voren made up his mind long before they arrived that if he ever went into any partnership, it would only be with people who actually judged Seraphine fairly instead of blindly turning against her.
Anyone who treated her like an enemy was already crossed off his list. To him, the business side of this festival meant absolutely nothing now. "Sera wants to leave," he said, his eyes drifting towards the windows. "And with the weather looking like this, I need to get her out of here."
Ravyn couldn’t help but smile a little. "Good thing I already had your room cleaned and stocked with everything you’ll need."
Voren slowly shook his head. "You don’t know your ex-wife." A faint smile stretched his lips before it vanished. "She won’t stay somewhere this crowded." His expression turned serious, his sharp eyes locking onto Ravyn. "Besides, you still haven’t found the people who wanted her dead."
Those words hit like a ton of bricks. Guilt washed over Ravyn’s face instantly. He hated admitting it, but Voren was right.
No matter how hard he’d tried or how many investigations he’d run, he still hadn’t found the ones responsible. The weight on his shoulders grew even heavier.
At the same time, a nagging thought crept in. Something about all this didn’t add up. Was Voren really protecting Seraphine just because they were business partners or was there more to it?
The more Ravyn watched them together, the less he believed it.
Before he could say anything, Voren had already crossed the room. He stopped beside Seraphine and gently wrapped his fingers around her arm in a careful, protective way that still looked completely natural. "I’ll take you to the hotel," he said, his deep voice calm and steady.
Seraphine frowned right away and slipped her arm free. "Corvine will drive me."
Voren let out a quiet scoff, one eyebrow lifting as amusement sparkled in his eyes. "Oh? So that’s your plan?"
A teasing grin spread across his face. "You want to disappear somewhere with my billions?" He shook his head, giving her another look. "Sorry, that plan already failed."
Without waiting for another excuse, he caught her arm again, this time with a much more serious expression as looked towards the entrance. "Let’s go before the storm gets any worse."
Seraphine looked around, the expression on the faces of onlookers showing they had bought into her fake resistance. Then she allowed him to lead her toward the exit.
They’d barely taken a few steps when hurried footsteps echoed across the gym floor. Augustine rushed over, breathing harder from the dash, his face unusually serious. His eyes locked onto Seraphine. "Sera..." He hesitated for a second before meeting her gaze. "Can I have a word with you?"
