Chapter 469: Chapter 469 - I want to be your maid of honor, Sera!
Voren’s face darkened the second Augustine walked up. Just seeing him dragged up a memory Voren had tried hard to bury. That night at the restaurant when Santiago first laid eyes on Seraphine.
He could still picture exactly how beautiful she’d looked that day. She hadn’t worn anything over the top, but she’d clearly put real thought into her outfit before meeting Augustine.
Back then, the sight had bothered him way more than he wanted to admit, and even now it left a bitter, sour taste in his mouth. The last thing he wanted was Augustine anywhere near her.
Seraphine acted like she hadn’t picked up on the change in Voren’s mood at all. She forced a small smile and looked at Augustine. "August, what’s going on?"
Augustine lowered his head, all the usual confidence completely gone. Heavy guilt was written all over his face instead. "Sera..." His voice came out softer than normal. "I was wrong."
He slowly lifted his eyes to meet hers. "I want to invest more, but Corvine turned me down. He said he was following your instructions."
After seeing those first profits from the fifty million he’d originally given her more as a gift than a real investment, everything had flipped for him. The returns had completely blown his mind.
That was the moment he realized Seraphine hadn’t been making empty promises. She had built something truly extraordinary. The second he saw those numbers, he’d been dying to pour in even more.
But when Corvine brought the request to Seraphine, she’d shut it down without hesitation.
Seraphine blinked, honestly having forgotten all about it with everything else weighing on her mind lately. A gentle smile curled the corner of her lips while her eyes stayed calm and steady.
"August, I really do appreciate everything you did to help speed up my divorce. That’s exactly why I gave you that opportunity in the first place."
A hint of disappointment crossed her features. "But then... you insulted me." She didn’t raise her voice, but the quiet disappointment in her tone hit harder than any shout could.
Augustine’s shoulders slumped even lower, regret flooding every inch of his expression. "I know."
He rubbed his forehead and let out a long, tired breath. "I was hurt because you turned me down." There was no anger in his voice this time, just raw honesty. "Sera... please. Just one big investment."
For a second Seraphine thought about refusing. She’d made up her mind and normally stuck to it but then another idea hit her. Her eyes drifted over to Corvine, and a faint smile played on her lips.
She turned fully toward Corvine. "You’re the CEO," she said, her smile growing warmer. "I’m not going to go over your head. You’ll make the final call."
Those simple words instantly grabbed everyone’s attention. Several Alphas exchanged quick glances while others turned to study Corvine with fresh interest.
Seraphine knew exactly what she was doing. She wasn’t just answering Augustine but also announcing Corvine’s reputation right there in front of everyone. She wanted the whole room to understand one thing: Corvine wasn’t just a former beta or some guy working for her.
He wasn’t an assistant taking orders. He was the CEO, the man she trusted to make big decisions, the one she relied on completely. Anyone smart enough to spot real opportunities would know exactly who to approach after today.
Corvine got it right away. A deep warmth spread through his chest as he looked at Seraphine, incredibly grateful for the faith she kept showing in him.
After everything they’d been through and all the people who used to look down on him, here she was openly lifting him up in front of the most powerful people at the festival. He drew in a slow breath and gave a small nod, a calm smile settling on his face. "You can go, Sera. I’ll handle everything here."
Seraphine nodded, trusting him without question. She started walking away, but then another thought stopped her. She turned back with a puzzled look. "We came together, so how are you getting back?"
Before Corvine could answer, Kael jumped in with his usual easygoing grin. "I’ll lend him my car."
Seraphine’s eyes lit up. "Thank you." She gave Kael a grateful smile before turning to leave again.
This time another voice held her back. "Sera." Athaliah stood up from her seat, looking a little hesitant. "Are there any open rooms at your hotel?" She glanced toward Daisy before looking back at Seraphine. "I’m really not comfortable staying there."
Seraphine understood immediately. It wasn’t about the rooms. It was about Daisy. After everything that had gone down today, sharing a building with her would destroy anyone’s peace of mind.
Instead of answering directly, Seraphine looked at Corvine with a playful smile and folded her arms lightly. "Why are you asking me?" Pride filled her voice as she continued. "Corvine takes care of everything for me. He’s my big brother... my friend... my best friend... and my business partner."
Every title she gave him carried real, genuine affection. Corvine’s heart warmed. He knew exactly what she was doing, pushing Athaliah’s interest towards him. A grateful smile spread across his face. "I’ll make the arrangements."
Athaliah smiled back. "In that case, I’ll see you tomorrow." Her eyes naturally drifted toward Voren and Seraphine. The longer she watched them together, the stronger her suspicion grew. Something just wasn’t adding up.
Voren had once told her about the mysterious woman he loved, and every instinct she had kept pointing straight at Seraphine. She wished there was an easy way to confirm it.
If she could just place a hand over both their chests at the same time, her wolf would know instantly if they were in love. But that would be way too territorial to invade their space like that.
Athaliah thought about it for another moment before a mischievous little smile slowly spread across her face. Just as Voren and Seraphine reached the exit, she called out after them, "You two really look good together!"
They both stopped, and Athaliah’s smile grew even bigger. "You should turn that business relationship into a romantic one. I want to be your maid of honor, Sera!"
