Chapter 499: Chapter 328: Calling Me Superman Might Be More Appropriate

"Diego, what’s wrong with you?"

One of the armed thugs scratched his head with the barrel of his gun, looking puzzled at the tattooed man who was pretending to be calm. "Why do you look so flustered?"

"Uh... it’s nothing," the tattooed man, Diego, said, making an excuse. "I was getting dizzy from hunger while driving just now. Almost got into an accident."

He would never admit that after more than thirty years of life with blood on his hands, he’d been scared by a so-called ghost at night.

’If word of this got out, would I still have a reputation?’

"Didn’t you have dinner?" another man asked. "I think I have some food in my car. I’ll go look."

"Go, get me something to eat," Diego ordered. "And while you’re at it, recount the goods in front of me."

Li Wei stood right beside them, watching.

Over twenty men were scattered under the moonlight. Some shouldered guns, while others leaned against pickup trucks, smoking.

He scanned the area, focusing on whether they had any weapons with a caliber larger than an automatic rifle, either in their vehicles or on their persons.

After all, he hadn’t reached the point where he could withstand a sniper rifle’s caliber yet. And to be honest, getting hit by rifle bullets still hurt a little.

He walked a circle around the perimeter.

The [Jester’s Skull] was beside him, its Ruby eyes flashing incessantly:

[I see... There are 24 Skeleton Soldiers in the camp.]

[What do you plan to do, my master? A direct charge, or will you pick them off one by one? These Skeleton Soldiers won’t be easy to deal with.]

Four pickup trucks and one van, their engines all still running. Their headlights cast the clearing in a mixture of light and shadow.

He counted them up and found seven automatic rifles; the rest were pistols and machetes.

’That’s good enough.’

Li Wei started with the farthest pickup truck. He planned to disable their vehicles first.

This place was far from civilization, and the terrain was open. Without vehicles, they wouldn’t be able to escape even if they tried.

He approached the front of the pickup, silently pried open a gap in the hood, reached a hand inside, grabbed a handful of wiring, and yanked.

As easily as pulling up a blade of grass, the pickup’s engine died.

No one noticed. Everyone’s attention was on the center of the clearing. Li Wei repeated the process, disabling the remaining four vehicles within two minutes.

In the center of the clearing, Diego was chewing out a few of his lead men.

"What do you mean you forgot to count after you loaded it?" He grabbed one of the men by the collar. "Couldn’t you have called the warehouse guys to confirm? You wait until you’re all the way out here to remember?"

"I-I-I-I..." The man he’d grabbed was sweating profusely. "Marco, the warehouse manager, hates being disturbed at night—"

"So you decided to disturb me instead," Diego said with a nod, then pulled a pistol from the small of his back. "Do you think I enjoy driving dozens of fucking kilometers out here to solve your screw-ups?"

"No, no, no, Diego, don’t..."

"COUGH COUGH COUGH!"

Another sudden coughing fit erupted.

The same thought surfaced in everyone’s mind:

’Who has the balls to make a sound right now?’

They all whipped their heads around to look.

A skinny guy, who had probably choked on his own saliva, was coughing nonstop.

"Arturo?" Diego’s eyes narrowed. "You got a problem? Something you want to say?"

"No, no, no, no, Diego, I... I don’t have a problem," the skinny man said, waving his hands frantically. "I don’t have any problem at all."

Diego turned his gaze back to the subordinate in front of him who had ruined his entire night.

"COUGH COUGH COUGH!"

Another coughing fit rang out.

"Arturo!" Diego spun around and roared, "Did I not—"

But when he turned, he saw Arturo shaking his head with a stunned expression, signaling that it wasn’t him.

The others were all staring behind him, so Diego turned to look as well.

Under the moonlight and the headlights, a tall figure in a short-sleeved shirt and jeans—Wardafa! Batman?—had appeared right beside him.

Diego turned his head to his men. "Is this one of ours?"

Everyone shook their heads in unison.

Diego turned his head back. "Who the fuck are you?"

"Haven’t you seen any Hollywood blockbusters?" Li Wei pointed to his Batman mask and lowered his voice. "I’m Batman. A superhero."

Diego’s hand reflexively loosened its grip on his subordinate’s collar.

’This is too bizarre.’

They were at least forty kilometers from the city, in the middle of nowhere, and some lunatic cosplayer had just appeared at the stronghold of a drug cartel.

What’s more, nobody knew how he had gotten there. It was as if no one had noticed him before he just suddenly materialized out of thin air.

The burly man closest to him couldn’t hold back any longer. He grabbed a machete and charged.

The blade was sharp. A normal person would likely have been killed by the blow.

"You guys know a fun fact?" Li Wei didn’t even take his hands out of his pockets or look at the charging man. "In the comics, Batman’s whole deal is—"

He took a shuffle step and delivered a front kick, planting the sole of his foot squarely in the center of the burly man’s chest.

The machete hadn’t even finished its downward arc. The man flew backward as if hit head-on by a truck, sailing five or six meters through the air at an even greater speed. After landing, he tumbled several more times across the ground like a discarded sack of potatoes before slamming into a car’s front bumper with a heavy THUD.

Then, he stopped moving.

[Skeleton Soldier Eliminated *1]

The clearing fell dead silent. Everyone was frozen in place.

’This is way too sci-fi. Are we all tripping? A burly guy well over 200 pounds just got kicked five or six meters through the air.’
