Chapter 601: Chapter 500: Is This Guy a Special Forces Soldier?
The Golden Retriever was being a nuisance, still trying to push forward.
"What’s wrong?" Ding Yuwei came over, glancing at the man in sunglasses as she asked.
With the command, Celestial Skill finally calmed down, squatting and looking up at Shen Xin in confusion.
Shen Xin waved his hand, saying it was nothing. "Sorry," he said to the man in sunglasses. "Are you all right?"
The man in sunglasses shook his head to show he was fine, tugged on the Golden Retriever’s leash, and walked past the pair.
The Golden Retriever resisted, but the man’s grip was powerful, and the dog was dragged away, its paws scrambling against the pavement.
In his earpiece, Yang Zeran was asking Shen Xin what was happening. Why wasn’t he following the script? His performance had been so good a moment ago—why did he suddenly freeze up and ruin it completely?
Ding Yuwei shot him a questioning glance.
At that moment, Shen Xin’s mind was still buzzing.
’Five days!’
’The suspect we spent five whole days painstakingly searching for... just appeared right in front of me out of nowhere.’
Shen Xin’s first thought was, ’Could this be a mistake?’
’But this is Celestial Skill.’
’Her abilities are beyond question. She would definitely remember a scent.’
’And everyone has a unique scent. Celestial Skill wouldn’t get it wrong.’
’Does that mean this guy in the sunglasses stole the recorder and murdered Li Siyu?’
Shen Xin turned his head, watching the man in sunglasses as he made a right turn.
’The critical question is, who is he?’
They had investigated so many people. Someone even went to Xinyun. You could say they’d investigated everyone Li Siyu had known in her entire life.
All sorts of photos plastered the walls of the task force’s meeting room.
Shen Xin’s memory was pretty good, and he was absolutely certain that there was no man with a long, shoehorn-like face among those photos.
With such a distinct feature, it would have been impossible to forget.
Shen Xin whispered, "Let’s go," and tugged on Ding Yuwei’s arm.
’This is trouble.’
Shen Xin suspected the man had noticed something.
’It all happened too fast, and my reaction was completely unnatural.’
But before he could even turn, the man in sunglasses, who had just turned right, suddenly dropped the leash and bolted.
"Shit!"
Shen Xin swore and shot forward.
He vaulted over the greenbelt, charging straight for the man.
It all happened so fast that Ding Yuwei was a beat behind before she spun around and gave chase.
But Celestial Skill was even faster. She mimicked Shen Xin, leaping over the greenbelt. Within a few strides, she overtook Shen Xin, closing in on the man like a bolt of lightning.
Her speed was far greater than any human’s. In just a few seconds, she had caught up to the man in sunglasses.
She lowered her body and sprang, aiming to bite his arm.
She had undergone professional takedown training; her bites were fast, precise, and vicious.
But in that instant, the man’s reaction far exceeded Shen Xin’s expectations.
It’s hard for someone sprinting blindly to notice anything behind them, let alone a police dog lunging at such incredible speed.
Yet this guy actually reacted, as if he had eyes in the back of his head.
And he didn’t try to dodge by stopping short.
During takedown training at the base, Shen Xin had tried it himself while wearing a bite suit. When a K9 was chasing you from behind, trying to dodge with a sudden stop was simply impossible.
A dog’s reaction time is far superior to a human’s.
In that instant, the man did something uncanny: using his forward momentum, he executed a flying dive to his front left.
That single move was just enough to dodge Celestial Skill’s pounce from behind.
He dove through the air, landing with a side roll on the adjacent grass verge. He used the momentum to roll smoothly to his feet.
The entire sequence of movements was so fluid and natural it was hard to comprehend how he’d done it.
But Celestial Skill was no pushover. The instant she landed from her missed pounce, her legs dug into the ground, and she pivoted, launching herself at the man once more.
Her speed was still astounding. She caught up in just a few strides and launched another mid-air attack.
But the man, now on his feet after the roll, didn’t try to flee this time. He spun around, raised his leg, and kicked at Celestial Skill as if taking a power shot in soccer.
"No bite!"
In that moment, Shen Xin was closing the distance and only had time for that one shout.
Celestial Skill was sent flying by the kick, and Shen Xin launched himself forward, tackling the man to the ground.
THUD.
The moment they hit the ground, the man’s elbow came crashing down.
It was fast and precise, smashing into Shen Xin’s head.
The blow felt like a sledgehammer strike. Shen Xin never imagined the man could unleash such power at such close quarters.
Even as the blow sent him reeling, Shen Xin’s hands didn’t stop moving, grabbing for the man’s clothes.
He got a hold of him, but not a firm one.
The man rolled away, kicked Shen Xin off him from the ground, then scrambled nimbly to his feet. He took a quick shuffle step and unleashed a sweeping side kick.
Shen Xin was already struggling to his feet. The elbow to his head had made his vision swim. He caught the man’s leg rising in his peripheral vision and instinctively threw his arm up to block.
CRACK.
It truly was the sound of bone hitting bone, followed by a searing pain.
Shen Xin felt as if his arm had snapped. The kick blasted his block aside and struck him in the head.
It sent him toppling over once more.
Just then, Ding Yuwei caught up and launched herself at the man in a similar flying tackle, trying to restrain him.
The man was tackled to the ground again, but as he fell, he pulled Ding Yuwei with him into a backward roll, unbelievably reversing their positions. He brought her down beside him, then straightened up and drove a fist at her face.
Ding Yuwei instinctively raised her arm to block, but it was useless. A single punch landed like a lightning strike, and her vision went black.
The man was just about to rise when Shen Xin, gritting his teeth, lunged at him again.
He threw himself forward, punching the man in the back of the head.
The man’s head snapped to the side, but he used the momentum to spin and deliver a sweeping right hook.
The force was incredible, knocking Shen Xin away once more.
Shen Xin regained his balance and threw another punch.
