Chapter 602: Chapter 500: Is This Guy Special Forces?
But instead of retreating, the man in sunglasses advanced. He ducked under the attack by dipping his shoulder and countered with a standard right hook, landing it fast, hard, and true on Shen Xin’s cheek.
The blow had incredible penetrating force; it felt like his teeth were about to be knocked out.
The man immediately threw a combination: a right hook followed by a left to the liver. His reaction time and explosive power were completely superior to Shen Xin’s.
With a muffled grunt, Shen Xin felt a jolt like an electric shock and collapsed uncontrollably.
Just as he took two hits, Ding Yuwei scrambled back to her feet behind him.
They were armed while on the case.
But it was summer, and their light clothing couldn’t conceal a firearm. Besides, they were only supposed to be testing the man, so they had left their guns in the car.
They had also brought pepper spray and extendable batons.
But just like the guns, those items couldn’t be concealed either.
And she didn’t have any handy, sufficiently hard objects within reach.
So Ding Yuwei whipped out her phone and smashed it against the head of the man in sunglasses like it was a brick.
The man in sunglasses staggered but recovered in the next instant as if nothing had happened. He spun around, throwing an elbow to block Ding Yuwei’s incoming kick, then smoothly advanced, lowered his stance, and wrapped his agile arms around her. He lifted her straight up and executed a back-body drop.
Luckily, they were in a green belt. On a concrete sidewalk, a fall like that could have been fatal.
Ding Yuwei was knocked senseless and didn’t get up again.
"Fuck!"
Shen Xin gritted his teeth against the searing pain in his abdomen and lunged forward again.
He straddled the man and rained down a flurry of punches.
They landed, but the man seemed unfazed. With a powerful buck of his hips, like a great python uncoiling, he threw Shen Xin to the ground. He then scrambled up, raised his leg, and viciously kicked Shen Xin in the head.
It was no less than a blow from a sledgehammer. Shen Xin felt his brain rattle, truly seeing stars.
He fumbled to his feet, the world spinning around him. He walked unsteadily, as if on the deck of a ship.
In his field of vision, Celestial Skill was still barking, trying to give chase, but it seemed she had also been injured by that kick and couldn’t run fast.
Shen Xin clenched his jaw, shook his head hard, and staggered after the blurry figure. ’What are Yang Zeran and Zhao Tianxing doing?’ he wondered.
’It’s been so long, and still no backup.’
Amidst the roaring in his head, the figure was disappearing into the distance.
Shen Xin stumbled in pursuit. He didn’t know how far he’d gone when a gunshot suddenly shattered the air.
It was a sound Shen Xin knew well.
He jolted but gritted his teeth and kept chasing.
Amid the gasps of onlookers, Shen Xin swayed forward for an unknown distance until he saw a person lying on the concrete up ahead.
Zhao Tianxing!
His head seemed to have hit the ground. It was covered in blood, and he was struggling to get up.
Forcing himself onward, Shen Xin continued the chase.
Just past the walkway, only a few steps further, Shen Xin saw Yang Zeran in the green belt.
He was curled up like a shrimp, clutching his gun, in too much pain to get up again.
Noticing Shen Xin’s approach, he repeatedly pointed into the distance.
Shen Xin looked where he was pointing and ran a few more steps, but there was no trace of the man in sunglasses.
After a moment’s hesitation, Shen Xin gave up the chase.
He quickly turned back to check on Yang Zeran.
"Don’t move me. I think my ribs are broken."
"Fuck, what the hell is that guy?!" Yang Zeran clutched his side, his body twitching in pain. "He kicked me all the way over from there."
"I fired and still missed him. Damn it, is that guy special forces or something?"
Shen Xin’s legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the grass. He fumbled in Yang Zeran’s pocket, looking for his phone.
’This is fucking unbelievable.’
Four police officers and one K-9, and they still couldn’t take the guy down.
He felt Yang Zeran was right. The guy’s strength, reflexes, speed, and ability to take a hit were definitely on par with special forces.
