Chapter 605: Chapter 502: High-Pressure Water Cannon (Part 2)
"Captain Zhang, who is this guy?" Liu Baoqing asked, turning his head.
His fighting ability and reflexes are insane. He’s definitely not some ordinary person.
He’d seen violent criminals before—had even arrested some himself. At most, fueled by adrenaline, they’d just brandish their knives and slash around with no regard for their own lives.
But this guy... The way he attacked Yang Zeran and the other officer was especially telling. The whole thing was seamless and incredibly methodical. It was just unbelievable.
Zhang Hancheng snapped back to his senses, hastily pulling out his phone to call Zhao Hongjie.
"Director Zhao, this assailant is no ordinary person. He has exceptional combat abilities. You need to warn everyone to be careful. If he’s spotted, no one should engage recklessly. They have to wait for SWAT."
Zhang Hancheng thought, ’With shoe-sole face’s fighting ability, sending in one or two officers would be a death sentence.’
Zhao Hongjie was startled. He didn’t know what Zhang Hancheng had just witnessed, but he replied immediately, "Hancheng, we’ve already got a visual on him. We’re tracking him through the surveillance network. You head to his last known location, and I’ll have Guorong meet up with you."
He was referring to Kuang Guorong, the captain of the SWAT team.
At that moment, Zhao Hongjie was in the Municipal Public Security Bureau’s intelligent command center.
Deputy Director Xu Xinyao and the others had also arrived.
As soon as he arrived, Zhao Hongjie immediately pulled up the road surveillance footage from around the crime scene and quickly locked on to a vehicle.
It was a black Cadillac CT4. After the incident, a surveillance camera at the park entrance clearly captured someone running out in a hurry.
Moments later, a CT4 sped out and took off at high speed.
He blew right through a red light, weaving through traffic in a series of swerves like a car in a moose test, and headed east.
Then he just kept speeding.
By the time Zhang Hancheng made the call, the suspect had already sped several kilometers away. The last surveillance camera to catch him showed him turning right into Tongquan Garden.
Twenty-six minutes had passed between the time of the incident and Zhang Hancheng’s call.
By running red lights the entire way, the suspect made it back to Tongquan Garden in just eight minutes.
Peripheral road surveillance showed the same CT4 leaving Tongquan Garden thirteen minutes later. A high-definition traffic camera at a nearby intersection snapped a photo, confirming it was the same driver.
Zhao Hongjie had every reason to suspect that the man lived in Tongquan Garden.
He dispatched a team to Tongquan Garden while continuing to track the man’s movements via the road surveillance network.
He’d already noticed something strange.
Logically, after attacking police officers and committing such a major crime, shoe-sole face should have only one goal: to escape.
In a major city blanketed with surveillance cameras, completely disappearing isn’t easy. ’He should at least be taking back roads, shouldn’t he?’
But he wasn’t. He was speeding recklessly and blowing through red lights, almost as if he wanted to broadcast his location to the entire world.
And under these circumstances, he actually went home.
And after returning home, he was now heading west.
Nanjiang had a well-developed transportation network, with one exception: heading west was a dead end.
Because of Li Lake.
Although Li Lake’s average depth was only two meters, surely he wasn’t planning to escape by boat.
No, wait!
Zhao Hongjie’s heart skipped a beat.
’Who says you can’t escape over water?’
’What if the man had a speedboat stashed somewhere?’
If he did, he could travel by water—north to Donglin and Yanling, or south to Pingyu.
He could even cross Li Lake to the west and reach Pingzhou Lishui.
So, a water route was a perfectly viable escape plan.
And indeed, subsequent tracking confirmed the man was heading directly southwest.
Zhao Hongjie didn’t hesitate. He immediately ordered someone to notify the Marine Police and have them mobilize at once to prevent the assailant from escaping by water.
As it turned out, Zhao Hongjie’s sudden hunch was spot on.
Otherwise, by the time they realized he was escaping by water, it would have been too late to deploy the Marine Police.
Of course, even if they were late, he wouldn’t have escaped, not if they threw enough manpower and resources at the problem.
Just then, Er Long’s camera feed was patched in.
Celestial Skill had been injured and failed to catch shoe-sole face, but Er Long was unaffected up in the sky. With no further orders from Shen Xin, it had continued to tail the suspect.
The feed showed Er Long flying through the air, its helmet-mounted camera aimed down below.
A black sedan was clearly visible, weaving quickly through the traffic.
Er Long’s own GPS coordinates pinpointed the suspect’s location on the map.
Seeing this, Zhao Hongjie relaxed slightly.
’As long as we know where he is,’ he thought, ’we can take our time mobilizing our forces. No matter how strong he is, how could he possibly escape an encirclement?’
Onscreen, the target continued heading southwest.
Finally, he turned onto Yuanxi Road.
This road headed west, connecting to Shanshui West Road.
And on Shanshui West Road, Li Lake was on the left and Shitang Mountain was on the right, directly beside the lake.
Of course, to the south, Yuanxi Road also bordered Li Lake.
Then, on a stretch of road with no surveillance cameras, he suddenly veered left, cut through the oncoming traffic, and sped down a small side road on the opposite side.
The area beyond that was the extreme southwest of Nanjiang.
The Linhu district. It was basically the countryside—full of villages, with complex terrain and blind spots in the surveillance coverage.
Zhao Hongjie’s expression grew grim. It was obvious the suspect had prepared his escape route in advance.
And escaping by water was an absolutely brilliant move.
If he used the waterways to get to Yanling or Pingyu, there would be a delay in mobilizing the police resources in those other cities.
If he went west to Lishui, it would be even more troublesome. That was in a different province, so the jurisdictional delay would be even greater.
Furthermore, the suspect’s entire escape had been remarkably decisive, with no hesitation or wasted motion.
Honestly, Kuang Guorong and the SWAT team from the New District were still on their way. They were nowhere near him.
’If I hadn’t figured out he was escaping by water and mobilized the Marine Police,’ he thought, ’catching him would have been a real headache.’
