Chapter 686: Case Closed, Full Stop
Chapter 686 -570: Case Closed, Full Stop
“So stupid!”
Yang Zeran muttered to himself, shaking his head, his face a mask of disbelief.
To think a criminal would actually record their own crime and keep the footage.
Shen Xin signaled for him to be quiet and continued watching the video.
When the recording started, Liu Baoli and Hu Zeyang were already subdued, both lying on the ground.
The bindings were professional. Their arms were forced behind their backs, their wrists likely secured with rope knots. Their feet were tied in the same way and then connected to their hands, forcing their bodies to arch backward like a prawn.
The first murder took place in November.
The weather had turned cold. Lu Weihong was wearing an outdoor jacket, leather pants, ankle boots, and leather gloves.
He also wore a baseball cap.
At the same time, Shen Xin noticed that he couldn’t see any of Lu Weihong’s hair beneath the baseball cap.
It looked like he was wearing one of those prosthetic bald caps, hiding all his hair underneath.
A thought immediately struck Shen Xin.
‘This way, he wouldn’t leave any hair at the scene.’
‘It would be nearly impossible to find a single hair in a forest, but what if they did?’
‘This guy really had planned everything meticulously beforehand.’
He adjusted the camera, aiming it at Liu Baoli and the other man.
Villains die from talking too much, but Lu Weihong wasted no words. He held an iron hammer in his right hand, aimed it at Liu Baoli’s temple, and commanded in a low voice, “Say, ‘Li Suhua, I’ve wronged you. I apologize. It’s all my fault.'”
Liu Baoli said it without hesitation.
The moment he finished speaking, Lu Weihong swung the hammer down with brutal force, without a shred of hesitation.
Beside him, Hu Zeyang’s eyes bulged like saucers, his face splattered with blood.
It wasn’t over.
Lu Weihong raised the hammer, bringing it down again and again.
He didn’t stop until only Liu Baoli’s legs were still twitching.
Then, Lu Weihong stood up and walked silently toward Hu Zeyang. Ignoring Hu Zeyang’s frantic begging and endless screams, he began another vicious assault, hammering away without hesitation until the man was completely still.
The detectives watched in silence, their breathing growing heavy.
For one, they were shocked that Lu Weihong had recorded the entire crime himself.
For another, they were stunned by the cold-blooded cruelty and clean, decisive nature of the attack—he showed absolutely no hesitation.
The footage ended with Lu Weihong walking over and turning off the camera.
Then came the second video.
It started almost identically: a forest, and a bound Wang Shulin.
Cao Hui was so frightened he couldn’t stop shaking, and his voice trembled uncontrollably.
Wang Shulin, on the other hand, was defiant, unleashing a torrent of curses and taunts about how Lu Weihong hadn’t dared to fight back years ago.
He even lewdly described the details of his assault on Li Suhua.
Surprisingly, Lu Weihong showed no anger. He just adjusted the camera and, like before, told Wang Shulin to apologize to the camera.
“Apologize? You’re about to fucking kill me, what the hell am I apologizing for? I should’ve fucking killed you back then!” Wang Shulin spat right in Lu Weihong’s face.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Lu Weihong brought a knife down on his shoulder.
Wang Shulin screamed in agony, convulsing but unable to break free. He cursed Lu Weihong, calling him a lunatic and telling him to just get it over with and kill him.
Obviously, Lu Weihong had no intention of doing that.
One cut after another.
Few people could withstand such torture. In the end, Wang Shulin broke down, screaming frantic apologies at the top of his lungs.
Only then did Lu Weihong move in for the kill, hacking Wang Shulin to pieces right in front of Cao Hui.
Ding Yuwei couldn’t bear to watch and turned her head away.
Liu Kaishun frowned and asked, “Are we watching the rest?”
It was too brutal.
Chang Zhigang gave a slight shake of his head. Liu Kaishun quickly gestured for someone to turn off the video; he was starting to feel physically ill.
Chang Zhigang stood up, turned around, and pulled a colleague into a fierce hug. He slapped him excitedly on the back, a suppressed cheer rumbling in his throat.
This cold case, open for so many years, was finally solved.
“Shen Xin!”
Chang Zhigang hugged Shen Xin, then released him. He wanted to say something, but the words caught in his throat; he didn’t even know where to begin.
Shen Xin felt a complex mix of heavy emotions. He had never expected the case to end like this.
But an even bigger surprise was yet to come for Shen Xin.
With video evidence, there was nothing more conclusive.
After they reported their findings to Xu Jinguang, he was ecstatic and immediately gave the order to arrest Lu Weihong.
Chang Zhigang made a special request to be allowed to make the arrest himself once he returned.
By the time they returned to Shanggu, it was evening.
Lu Weihong was under surveillance. He was still at his company, working in his office, not yet done for the day.
Xu Jinguang came in person as well.
This case had weighed on his mind for so many years; now that it was finally coming to a close, he had to be there.
“Let’s go!”
Chang Zhigang nodded to Shen Xin and the others, then strode, head held high, toward Lu Weihong’s company building.
The large group stormed into the company.
The perimeter was swarming with officers; there was no chance of Lu Weihong escaping.
“Who… who are you looking for?” the receptionist asked, her expression changing as she saw Shen Xin’s group storm in. She rose nervously to her feet.
An officer quickly stepped forward, flashed a badge, and motioned for her to stay out of it.
One team made for the fire escape.
Chang Zhigang took the elevator to the second floor with Shen Xin and a few others.
The workday wasn’t over yet. In the open-plan office, many people were still busy. They exchanged confused glances as Shen Xin’s party suddenly burst in.
The group made a beeline for Lu Weihong’s office.
Lu Weihong looked up blankly from behind his computer screen, staring at Shen Xin and the others. “Who are you?”
Before the words were even out of his mouth, two officers were on him, pinning his shoulders from the left and right.
Only then did Chang Zhigang step forward. Looking at the stunned Lu Weihong, he was overcome with a storm of complex emotions.
He wanted to say something but didn’t know where to begin, so he simply took out the arrest warrant.
“Lu Weihong, you’re under arrest.”
A thousand words could be said, but none felt more real than that one sentence.
Shock was written all over Lu Weihong’s face. His eyes were wide, as if he never imagined that after all these years, the police would still come for him.
