Chapter 721: Chapter 12: Wolf King (Part 2)
Upon learning the encirclement was complete, York and his team moved quickly.
Three minutes later, the group arrived.
During this time, the Wolf King made several obvious attempts to break out, but Tian Kui and his packmates blocked him every time.
A glint of excitement shone in Tian Kui’s eyes.
This Wolf King was clearly a tough opponent—a powerful adversary.
And only a powerful adversary could awaken Tian Kui’s wild nature.
So, without waiting for Shen Xin and the others to arrive, Tian Kui barked a few commands at his packmates to hold them back, then stepped out from the group and barked a few times at the Wolf King.
Even his barks changed. They were no longer the usual yapping, but a wolf-like howl.
Many dogs can produce howls similar to those of wolves.
This was even more true for an atavistic Wolf Green like Tian Kui.
The Wolf King’s gaze was fierce and savage. He understood Tian Kui’s meaning.
He wanted a one-on-one fight.
His cold eyes swept over the few coyotes; he vaguely recognized them.
But it didn’t matter.
After a moment’s hesitation, the Wolf King also snarled a few times, restraining his own kind, and slowly advanced.
Gray wolves are large, with astonishing bite force. They are intelligent, cunning, bloodthirsty, and fight with reckless abandon.
There is a saying that one mastiff can fight three wolves, but that probably refers to ordinary steppe wolves.
When faced with a gray wolf of comparable size, the outcome would be far from certain.
This is because gray wolves are extremely agile and have a wealth of combat experience from surviving in the wild.
Tian Kui, on the other hand, was only medium-large for a dog, about the size of a German Shepherd. Even well-fed as he was now, he only weighed about forty-six or forty-seven kilograms.
The size difference was significant.
Tian Kui knew this, but he still wanted to fight. It was rare to encounter such an opponent.
Besides, Tian Kui knew where his own advantage lay.
’Intelligence!’
No matter how cunning the gray wolf was, it couldn’t possibly be a match for him in that regard.
Therefore, facing the slowly advancing Wolf King, Tian Kui didn’t attack rashly. Instead, he began to pace slowly, circling the wolf and observing its every move.
It was like two masters testing each other, seeing who had more patience.
Clearly, the cornered Wolf King was the less patient of the two. After a brief standoff, he initiated the attack.
When he moved, it was with the agility of a crafty rabbit, pouncing toward Tian Kui at extreme speed.
He was smart, to be sure, but in a life-or-death struggle, he still relied on the same old moves: wait for an opening, lunge at the target, use his size to pin them down, then go for the throat.
Once he bit down, he wouldn’t let go until the opponent stopped breathing.
Wild animals fight with instinct and physical strength.
But Tian Kui was different.
He could predict the situation and even use tactics.
For instance, as the Wolf King lunged, Tian Kui showed no fear, his eyes locked on the wolf’s movements.
He knew that once the Wolf King got close, he would commit to a powerful pounce.
’Once he’s airborne, he can’t change direction. That’s my chance.’
Tian Kui even threw in a feint.
He pretended to stay put, then, with no windup, dodged to the right.
’Sometimes, I’m actually quite jealous of Da Mei and the others.’
’Feline combat prowess is truly formidable, especially their reaction speed. It’s frighteningly fast.’
By catching the wolf off guard, Tian Kui successfully dodged the pounce. The instant the Wolf King landed, he had already reversed direction and lunged.
His own speed was just as fast, his aim astonishingly accurate.
He bit directly into the back of the Wolf King’s neck, refusing to let go. Using the momentum of his leap, he flipped his body over to the wolf’s other side.
This neatly avoided the Wolf King’s retaliatory snap.
The two animals instantly became a rolling, tangled mess.
During the tumble, the Wolf King thrashed wildly, trying to bite Tian Kui.
But Tian Kui knew the rules of engagement. Having drawn blood was enough. He took the opportunity to let go and create distance.
His teeth were already stained with blood.
The Wolf King’s eyes narrowed in pain, and the pain only fueled his ferocity. He lunged again.
Tian Kui employed the same tactic, looking for a chance to dodge and counter-attack.
This time, however, the Wolf King had actually learned his lesson and turned his head to bite preemptively.
Tian Kui had no intention of trading injuries, so he quickly halted his advance and looked for another opening.
Just being able to do this much already greatly increased his chances of winning.
Sure enough, after two more exchanges, Tian Kui backed away and coldly spat out half an ear.
A chunk had been bitten from the Wolf King’s left ear. It was now a bloody mess, and he was enraged to the extreme.
’This guy before me is obviously smaller, but he’s incredibly slippery—even harder to deal with than those annoying cats.’
Blood trickled down his fur and into his eyes.
The Wolf King paid it no mind.
The other gray wolves were eager to join in—especially the alpha female, who howled, wanting to rush over and help—but the Wolf King snarled at them to stay back.
Just as he was about to attack again, York and his group arrived.
Blake made a show of force, immediately firing half a magazine into the sky.
’Now *this* is the truth of the matter.’
The moment the gunshots rang out, the forest erupted into chaos, like a pot boiling over. Countless birds were startled into flight.
The wolf pack was also startled.
There was a national forest park nearby, so this wasn’t exactly uninhabited territory. The wolves were no strangers to the animal known as "human."
And they were even less strangers to the weapons in human hands.
An instinct had been etched into their genes over generations: when you encounter humans, run as far away as you can.
Even the fierce, bloodthirsty Wolf King trembled at the sound of gunfire. His eyes, which had been clouded with rage, cleared considerably as he cowered in terror, looking for an escape route.
But where could he run? He was already surrounded.
And among these police dogs, some were even larger than Tian Kui.
’Wouldn’t their combat strength be even greater?’
’So how can I possibly escape?’
Especially with the humans closing in, their gun muzzles all pointed at him.
And seeing that Tian Kui and his group didn’t panic, the Wolf King finally realized: this Tian Kui was with the humans.
Gritting his teeth, the Wolf King turned to flee.
