Chapter 369: Chapter 177: New Zombie

The rain was still falling. Xu Mo stood by the window on the thirty-third floor, his body turned to the side as he observed the street below with his peripheral vision. Ever since that zombie looked up and met his gaze yesterday, he hadn’t dared to face the window directly again.

Xu Mo had been standing by the window, his gaze sweeping over the dense horde of zombies below. Suddenly, one of them lifted its head, its eyes staring straight in his direction. Their gazes locked.

Although the distance was great, and the rain blurred his vision, Xu Mo was certain that the zombie was looking right at him.

In that instant, Xu Mo felt his heart skip a beat.

It wasn’t fear, but shock.

He had seen plenty of zombies—common ones, Level One, Level Two, even Level 3s—but never had one been able to sense his presence from his gaze alone. The other zombies relied on hearing and smell, on their perception of sound and scent.

’But how could a gaze possibly be sensed?’ And yet, that zombie had done it.

It lifted its head, looked at Xu Mo, and then in a flash, it sprinted madly toward the office building he was in.

The other zombies were still standing with their mouths agape, catching the rainwater. The one charging over seemed to be the only one that had sensed him.

Xu Mo watched with his own eyes as it sprinted down the street, splashing through the rain. In the space of a few breaths, the zombie reached the base of his office building and disappeared inside.

"This sensing ability is way too strong."

Xu Mo couldn’t help but mutter. This was something he had never encountered in any other zombie. In that single instant, Xu Mo knew this one was different.

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Xu Mo quickly scanned his surroundings and analyzed the situation.

The office building had only one stairwell for access, so if the zombie wanted to come up, it had to take the stairs.

And since he was on the thirty-third floor, it meant the zombie had to climb at least thirty-three flights of stairs to reach him.

Xu Mo turned, strode to the stairwell door, and took the Barrett from his back.

’.50 caliber Armor-Piercing Bullets could penetrate any zombie’s Scale Armor. Xu Mo refused to believe this one could withstand it.’

’Of course, if the zombie rushed up here, saw him, and said "hello," Xu Mo felt he could probably have a chat with it. However, he was rather pessimistic about that possibility.’

Time passed, second by second. Xu Mo held his breath, focusing all his attention as he listened for any sound from the stairwell.

At first, it was faint, almost inaudible, but the sound soon grew clearer. It was the sound of footsteps, mixed with the unique shriek of a zombie, echoing in the empty stairwell.

THUMP-THUMP-THUMP-THUMP-THUMP—

A series of hurried footsteps ascended from below. It was the sound of the zombie scrambling up the stairs. The thirty-three-story climb would take a normal person at least ten-odd minutes, but for a zombie like this, it might only take a few.

Xu Mo’s finger rested on the trigger, his breathing steady.

The footsteps grew closer. With a loud BANG, the door to the stairwell one floor below was violently thrown open. A soaked figure shot up from the opening, landing directly on the stairs in front of Xu Mo. It was so nimble and agile that it made almost no sound upon landing.

Xu Mo didn’t even get a clear look at it before his finger squeezed the trigger.

BOOM!

The report of the Barrett exploded in the enclosed stairwell. The immense recoil slammed into Xu Mo’s shoulder, but he didn’t move an inch. The bullet shot out of the barrel, carrying destructive kinetic energy as it flew straight toward the figure.

The zombie hadn’t even steadied itself before the bullet struck.

THWACK!

With a dull thud, the bullet tore through the zombie’s chest and blew a huge hole out its back. Flesh and blood flew everywhere as dark red fluid splattered across the walls.

The zombie’s body lurched backward, nearly toppling off the stairs, but it didn’t fall.

It let out a bloodcurdling shriek and swayed, actually trying to get back up.

Xu Mo didn’t hesitate for a second.

The moment he fired the first shot, he was already ready for the second.

BOOM!

Another shot.

This bullet hit the zombie’s body again, blowing another large hole in its abdomen. This time, the zombie finally lost its footing, its body falling backward and crashing heavily onto the stairs.

But its limbs were still twitching, and a hoarse roar escaped its mouth.

Xu Mo’s third shot followed immediately.

BOOM!

This one was aimed straight for the head. The bullet struck the zombie’s skull, causing it to explode instantly. Dark red blood and brain matter splattered everywhere. The zombie’s body stiffened violently, then went completely still.

Xu Mo kept the gun raised in a firing stance, waiting for a few seconds to confirm the zombie was no longer moving before he slowly lowered his weapon and approached.

Only when he got closer did Xu Mo get a clear look at the zombie.

Its body was about the same as a normal person’s, around five-foot-seven tall with a slender build.

The biggest difference between it and a normal zombie was its head.

Xu Mo’s third shot had blown the zombie’s head apart, leaving only the lower half of its face. But on that remaining half, Xu Mo saw something strange.

A very, very long tongue lolled out. It was a good eight to twelve inches long and covered in strange patterns.
