Chapter 389: Chapter 182: Pursuit

That fight today was a little too close for comfort.

Xu Mo leaned back in his seat, closed his eyes, and replayed the fight, piece by piece.

First was the matter of their identities.

Judging from their equipment and tactics, those four weren’t ordinary survivors. They had guns, tactical coordination, and even a Superpower User. That was a loadout not just any small camp could put together.

Especially the Invisible Man. Xu Mo had encountered quite a few Superpower Users, but this was his first time seeing one with an invisibility Superpower. That kind of ability was terrifying in a fight; its user could approach silently and go for a one-hit kill. If it hadn’t been for that gust of wind, he never would have spotted him.

Then there was the expert he’d had the gunfight with—the one who’d returned fire in under two seconds. That person was definitely a professional.

Xu Mo even suspected the man might have a military background, and a highly skilled one at that. Only someone who had gone through rigorous training would have such quick reflexes and such incredible patience.

Second was their motive. ’Why were these four chasing me?’

Xu Mo considered it for a moment. The most logical explanation was that they were connected to the two people he had killed back in the abandoned village.

During the interrogation, one of the men had said they were a small team that had split off from Bluestone Town and set up camp at an abandoned gas station.

’Could today’s group of four be part of those twenty-one people?’

Xu Mo felt it was highly likely. They had probably gone out to scavenge for supplies, found their two teammates’ bodies, and then followed his tire tracks to get revenge.

Except their revenge had failed, and they ended up losing four more lives instead.

At this, his thoughts returned to the Superpower User who could turn invisible. A cold sweat had broken out on his back when he’d first discovered him, and the memory still made his heart pound.

Xu Mo took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.

Today’s battle had exposed some of his own weaknesses.

’First, my observation of the surroundings isn’t thorough enough. When that Invisible Man snuck up, I didn’t notice a thing. If it hadn’t been for that gust of wind, I’d be dead right now.’

’Second, I wasn’t vigilant enough. I actually let a car follow me and even let them get the first shot off. That’s completely unacceptable.’

’As for the final problem... my strength still isn’t great enough. If I were strong enough, I wouldn’t have had so many close calls during the fight. One day, I’ll be able to just stand there and let them shoot me without being threatened. Would danger even be danger at that point?’

’Right now, I’m at the Iron Bone Realm, which is considered pretty powerful. But it’s far from enough. I need to get stronger. Only by getting stronger can I face the more dangerous enemies the future holds.’

Xu Mo opened his eyes and gazed out the car window.

The night was deep. Only a few stars dotted the sky, and the wilderness was silent.

After a simple meal, Xu Mo closed his eyes and settled in to rest.

’Tomorrow, I have to keep moving.’

Early the next morning, Xu Mo didn’t immediately drive off. Instead, he first took out his map and carefully studied the route.

From his current position, it was about another seven or eight hundred kilometers to the southeast. According to Old Chen, when Ming Pearl Port fell, many survivor groups had evacuated toward the southeast. If they hadn’t been wiped out along the way, they should have settled down somewhere.

’The question is, where?’

Further southeast was a city called Xin’an City. It was a good-sized city with a pre-cataclysm population in the millions. Past that was the coastal region.

Xu Mo guessed that the evacuating survivor groups might have chosen to settle near Xin’an City. It had ready-made urban infrastructure—buildings, a water source, and farmland, making it suitable for long-term survival.

Of course, they might have gone farther and ended up somewhere else, but that was something he would have to find out for himself.

After studying it for a while, Xu Mo put the map away and continued on his way.
