Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 246: Giant Creatures 4
Perry Yates arrived at the largest and tallest hotel in town and went to the front desk. "I’d like the room on the top floor," she said.
"I’m very sorry, but the top floor has already been booked. You may choose another room," the receptionist said in a gentle voice.
"It’s already been booked?"
Perry Yates was a little surprised, but not overly so. This hotel had a full thirty floors, after all. Without the top floor, she still had other options.
"Then I’ll take the twenty-ninth floor," Perry Yates said.
"I’m very sorry, but all the rooms on the twenty-ninth floor have been booked as well."
"The twenty-ninth floor is completely booked, too? What about the twenty-eighth, then?"
"I’m very sorry, but all the floors from the twenty-first to the thirtieth have been completely booked."
Perry Yates: ...
"It can’t be the same person who booked all those rooms, can it?" Perry Yates suddenly asked.
"That’s confidential client information, so I’m not at liberty to say."
That might have been what she said, but Perry Yates could see the affirmative answer in her expression.
’It really is the same person. Who would make such a grand gesture? It couldn’t be a player, could it?’
With that thought, Perry Yates requested a room on the twentieth floor.
Perry Yates was still wondering who could have possibly booked ten entire floors at once when the elevator doors opened, revealing a familiar face.
"Perry Yates!"
"Amber Sheridan!"
"This is great! I can’t believe you’re in this round of the game too."
An expression of sheer delight spread across Amber Sheridan’s face upon seeing Perry Yates.
Perry Yates, on the other hand, glanced behind him and asked, "Is it just you this time?"
"Yeah. What, are you disappointed?"
Perry Yates shook her head. "Not really. Just a little surprised. After all, the last time we met, you two were as inseparable as twins."
At her words, Amber Sheridan pursed his lips, clearly not wanting to continue the topic. "Anyway, you’re staying here too? What floor are you on?"
"The twentieth floor."
"That’s perfect. Stay with me. I’m on the top floor."
Hearing him mention the top floor, Perry Yates looked at Amber Sheridan and asked, "So you’re the one who booked all the rooms from the twenty-first to the thirtieth floor at once?"
Amber Sheridan nodded. "I told them I was getting married, had a lot of guests coming, and needed to book a block of rooms. They agreed."
"What about the money? Where did you get that much?" That was Perry Yates’s biggest question.
"Did you rob a bank?"
"How did you know?"
Perry Yates: ...
’I’ve met some absurd people in my time, but he really takes the cake.’
According to Amber Sheridan, it wasn’t "robbing" so much as "borrowing." After all, since the money was just being spent here, it would eventually find its way back to the bank.
Perry Yates: ...
’She hadn’t been this speechless since... well, since a minute ago.’
’Forget it. Better not to press the issue.’
After following Amber Sheridan to the top floor, the two of them started exchanging information.
Since it was only the second day of the game, any information they had was extremely limited.
Thanks to her foreknowledge Skill, Perry Yates knew a little more than he did.
"If this game has something to do with a plant forest, couldn’t we just set the whole thing on fire?" Amber Sheridan suggested.
"Wow, you’re a real genius. In that case, what do you think will happen first? The forest burns down, or we get roasted alive?" Perry Yates said, her smile not reaching her eyes.
Seeing her reaction, Amber Sheridan said sheepishly, "But don’t you have that protective shield thing?"
Perry Yates rolled her eyes at him and didn’t bother to reply.
’In any case, arson was out of the question. That’s a serious crime, and it lands you in prison.’
"Anyway, it’s still the early phase of the game. We have plenty of time to prepare," Perry Yates said.
Amber Sheridan nodded. "Alright, let’s go gather supplies now."
"Let’s not gather too much. We don’t have any spatial storage items, so there’s nowhere to put everything if we get too much."
Hearing this, Amber Sheridan turned to her, a confused look on his face. "What do you mean we don’t have any spatial storage? Don’t you have the Space Backpack the system gives you?"
Perry Yates: ...
’Could she admit she’d completely forgotten about that?’
It wasn’t really Perry Yates’s fault she’d forgotten. After all, almost immediately after becoming a player and entering the game, she had acquired a Space Card.
Compared to the massive capacity of the Space Card, the complimentary Space Backpack from the system was practically insignificant.
Seeing her look, Amber Sheridan knew she had genuinely forgotten and said, "Let’s go. I’ll show you a new way to use the Space Backpack."
Downstairs, Amber Sheridan made a quick phone call. After a few words, he hung up and turned to Perry Yates with a grin. "All set. Come on, I’m gonna show you something cool."
And just like that, Perry Yates let him pull her along.
As the car drove further and further into a remote area, Perry Yates couldn’t help but frown. She turned to Amber Sheridan and asked, "You’re not planning on selling me, are you?"
"No way. I’d never do something that tasteless."
About twenty minutes later, Perry Yates was brought to a warehouse.
The contents of the warehouse made Perry Yates’s jaw drop. It was filled with trash cans.
Not the green plastic bins you see in residential areas, but oversized, giant dumpsters.
"The system’s backpack only holds one type of item per slot, and even with stacking, it’s not very efficient. But if you put one of these dumpsters in every slot, you can then use the dumpsters to store all sorts of things. Your capacity explodes, and you can carry a much wider variety of items. The only downside is that the items inside the dumpsters can’t be stacked."
As Perry Yates listened to Amber Sheridan, her eyes glazed over. She was thinking, ’If the Space Backpack could be used like this, then what was the point of all those days she’d spent eating nothing but chocolate during the last game? Was it all just because she had a sweet tooth?’
Right now, Perry Yates didn’t want to speak to Amber Sheridan at all. Still, she had to collect the dumpsters. This way, she could gather more supplies and maybe even take a good amount back with her.
’After all, for me, all of this is just energy for my Sublimation Card.’
Perry Yates made up her mind. One dumpster—no, half a dumpster—would be for supplies needed in this game. The rest would be used for collecting everything else.
It was just a shame that identification items were unusable.
After she had stored the dumpsters, the two of them headed to a wholesale market and started a massive shopping spree.
Amber Sheridan was clearly in the "more money than sense" camp. Even though the wholesale store owner’s prices were higher than regular retail, he didn’t seem to care in the slightest.
"Why should I care? It’s not my money, anyway."
Perry Yates: "When you put it that way... I guess you have a point."
