Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 251: Giant Creatures 9
Perry Yates held the card and discovered it was actually an item card.
It was a well-known rule that Dealer Players were forbidden from using items in this round of the game.
’So, does that mean items obtained inside the game are banned too?’
"Want to try it out?" Amber Sheridan suggested.
Perry Yates was about to agree, but after seeing the card’s effect, she firmly shook her head. "Let’s just forget about this one."
At first, Amber Sheridan was a little confused, but his expression immediately changed to one of understanding when he got a clear look at the card’s description and Card Ability in Perry’s hand.
**Card Name:** King’s Summon
**Level:** Two-Star
**Card Ability:** Upon use, gathers all surrounding mosquitoes and enhances their attack power.
The card seemed like it was for area-of-effect battles, but the problem was that after summoning the mosquitoes, the user couldn’t control them.
In other words, unless the user could leave the area immediately, they would be attacked by the mosquitoes as well.
After dark, Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan took quick showers. With the air conditioning running, they sat at the dining table, a large watermelon sliced in half placed before them.
They dug right in with stainless steel spoons, discussing their plans for the next day as they ate.
"We need to find a new water source tomorrow," Perry Yates said, eating her watermelon.
"Why? Are we out of water? I remember our water tank is huge, and it’s not like we’ve been wasting any," Amber Sheridan said, confused.
Perry Yates shook her head. "This isn’t about wasting water. Didn’t you notice? When we used the water today, it had a strange smell."
Hearing Perry say that, Amber Sheridan thought back carefully and realized she was right.
"Something did feel a little off when I was washing the vegetables today. The water smelled funky, but I thought I was just imagining things."
"It wasn’t your imagination. The water in the tank for daily use has started to go bad," Perry Yates said with a sigh.
"How is that possible?" Amber Sheridan was skeptical. "But the water was fine when we showered just now, wasn’t it?"
Perry Yates swallowed her bite of watermelon and rested her cheek in her hand. "The shower tank and the utility tank are separate. We shower every day, so the water in the tank connected to the bathroom ran out a long time ago. We’ve been using the rainwater we collected these past few days.
"Meanwhile, we’ve barely touched the water in the utility tank, aside from washing vegetables now and then."
There was bottled water in the RV, so even when they were thirsty, they would subconsciously choose to drink that.
"I just checked the utility tank. The water inside has gone rank."
Even though they still had plenty of bottled water, it was better to find another water source just to be safe.
"Then let’s go find water tomorrow. While we’re at it, we can see what the outside has turned into and if we can collect some more cards.
"I didn’t think much of it before, but I’m really not used to suddenly being unable to use items."
Perry Yates nodded in agreement with Amber Sheridan. She also sorely missed being able to use items.
As night fell, the air filled with the chirping of insects.
Perry Yates lay in the RV’s upper-level loft, having opened the skylight.
The moon hung high overhead—big, round, and bright. It was the biggest, roundest, most beautiful moon Perry Yates had ever seen, to say nothing of the star-filled sky.
It was her turn to keep watch. With the surrounding plants acting as sentinels, she would immediately sense anything that approached.
’A little boring.’
Perry Yates chewed on a long gummy candy.
With her plants standing guard, she had nothing to do. Besides, the Moonlight was so brilliant tonight that, for Perry Yates, an endless stream of power was flowing into her body with every passing second.
Of course, this power wasn’t going to waste; she was using all of it for the Ascension of food.
Just then, a few brightly colored butterflies appeared around Perry Yates, dancing gracefully before her.
"Go take a look around."
As soon as Perry Yates spoke, the butterflies seemed to receive a command, flapping their wings and flying off.
The special bulletproof glass didn’t stop them. They passed through it with ease and flew outside.
The butterflies flew through the sea of roses and off into the distance.
Meanwhile, in a building not far from the RV, propped up by overgrown plants, a pair of greedy eyes watched them.
When the person saw the butterflies fly out from the RV, it was as if they had received a signal. An ecstatic look appeared on their face.
"Heh heh heh, I’ve found you."
「The next day—the fourteenth day of the game.」
The moment they stepped out of the RV, a scorching heatwave washed over them.
"I’m starting to regret this." Amber Sheridan’s brow furrowed. ’What’s the difference between this and being in an oven?’
As the saying goes, it’s easy to get used to the good life, but hard to go back. After so many days enjoying the air-conditioned room, stepping back out into this harsh environment was pure agony for Amber Sheridan.
Perry Yates, by contrast, was much smarter. The moment she stepped out, she enveloped herself completely in her Cold Moon Guardian.
Although it would be a continuous drain on her energy, that’s what the sun was for.
She was more worried about the RV’s safety, however.
"What if someone comes and steals the RV while we’re gone?" Perry Yates asked.
As for just driving the RV with them, that was theoretically possible. The gas tank was full, after all. But the ideal was a far cry from reality.
The city had become a primordial forest. The original roads were long gone, torn apart by the roots of countless plants. The RV was massive, making it not only inconvenient to drive but also dangerous.
"Then there’s no other way. Use your vines to protect this place. The backpack the system provides can only hold something the size of a dumpster, at most."
Amber Sheridan had already experimented with this a long time ago.
Theoretically, the system-provided backpack could hold items of infinite size, but thanks to one of Amber Sheridan’s clever exploits, the system had been forced to patch that bug.
It wasn’t that Amber Sheridan couldn’t put the RV into his Space Backpack now; he could, but he would have to take out all ten of the dumpsters he had stored inside it first.
Hearing this, Perry Yates sighed. "I guess that’s our only option."
With that, she waved her hand, causing the surrounding plants to grow even more lush. For good measure, she also spurred the growth of dozens of Cannibal Flowers, hiding them within the foliage.
