Once that was done, Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan turned to leave.

How would they carry back any water they found? Well, they could just look for bottled water. Besides, they hadn’t thrown away the empty bottles from before.

Because Perry Yates had already sent her Spiritual Body to explore the surrounding environment last night, their journey was relatively smooth.

Aside from the swarms of bugs.

But both of them carried insect repellent, so bugs generally stayed away. Still, there were always exceptions, like...

As they passed under a tree, a sudden gust of wind rustled the leaves. Just then, something the size of a goose egg dropped from above at incredible speed, plummeting straight toward their heads.

They both moved nimbly, dodging the surprise attack.

The black thing bounced like a basketball the moment it hit the ground. After bouncing a few more times, it finally came to a complete stop.

Only then did Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan see what it was: a bug, curled up into a tight ball.

Seeing it, Perry Yates involuntarily let out a Scream, then ducked behind Amber Sheridan with a practiced move.

Perry Yates didn’t mind bugs with horns, legs, and carapaces—she even found some of them beautiful. But insects like centipedes, house centipedes, and scorpions, the kind that were either venomous or had far too many legs, were something she just couldn’t handle.

Among them, caterpillars were what she found most unbearable. Every time she saw one, her hair stood on end, she couldn’t stop shivering, and she would even forget how to walk.

Perry Yates loved beautiful butterflies, but she truly hated caterpillars. It was a dual aversion, both physiological and psychological.

After dealing with the bug, Perry Yates scanned her surroundings, looking for a store or somewhere she might find an umbrella.

Fortunately, although the city had transformed into a primitive forest, it still retained some of its original layout, so it was quite easy for the two of them to find a store.

After a brief search, they quickly found a store.

The store was quite large. But between the rampant plant growth of the past few days destroying its foundation and the several consecutive days of heavy rain, the place had been reduced to ruins, with countless supplies buried inside.

Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan were not the only ones who had found this place. When they arrived, quite a few people were already searching for supplies amidst the rubble.

These people were dressed in long-sleeved shirts and pants, wrapped up tightly. Even though they were sweating profusely in the heat, they didn’t dare take off their clothes.

The heat caused them to lose massive amounts of water and salt. At this point, the only thing they cared about was the desperate need to find supplies. Nothing else mattered.

They were so focused that they didn’t even notice the arrival of Perry and Amber. Everyone was silent, going about their own business.

In comparison, Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan were wearing clean clothes, showed no signs of exhaustion on their faces, and weren’t even sweating.

The two of them entered the ruins, first determining the location of the store’s shelves before heading to the beverage section.

They started clearing away the topmost layer of rubble, and soon, various drinks and bottled water buried underneath were revealed.

Some of them had been crushed by heavy objects, but most were still intact.

And because they were bottled, it didn’t matter that they had been soaked in water; they were still safe to consume.

Using their backpacks as cover, the two of them picked out the best-preserved drinks and bottled water they could find.

The commotion they were making soon attracted the attention of the others.

When the crowd saw so many drinks, they instantly rushed over like a crazed mob to snatch them up.

Most of these people were already extremely weak from hunger and exposure to the sun. At a time like this, a single bottle of a drink was undoubtedly a lifeline.

Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan didn’t try to stop them. After all, they already had enough water for themselves. It didn’t matter if the rest went to these locals.

Afterward, Perry Yates searched through the rubble some more and found the Sunshade Umbrella she had been longing for.

Just as the two of them were about to leave the ruins, a voice suddenly called out.

"Hey, old friend. Long time no see."

Hearing the voice, the two of them instinctively turned around and saw a young man about their age, wearing a hat, waving at them.

As the young man got closer, Perry Yates looked at his face and felt a strong sense of familiarity, as if she had seen him somewhere before.

Beyond that, she also got a very warm and friendly feeling from him.

’It’s not just that I’ve seen him before; our relationship must have been very close.’

As she thought this, an idea suddenly flashed through Perry Yates’s mind. A figure emerged in her thoughts, gradually shifting from blurry to clear.

"It’s you!"

"Well, look who it is!"

Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan spoke at almost the exact same time.

The moment the words left their mouths, they both froze and looked at each other, surprise in their eyes.

In Perry Yates’s memory, the person in front of her was her deskmate from high school. They had been very good friends but had gradually lost contact after graduation.

But now it seemed Amber Sheridan also knew this person, and quite well at that.

’Could they have met in the game before?’

"Let me introduce you. This is my high school classmate."

Just then, Amber Sheridan was the first to speak up and make the introduction.

Perry Yates: "..."

’High school classmate?’

’Then what does that make me?’

’If I remember correctly, there’s a three-year age gap between me and Amber Sheridan, and we aren’t even from the same planet. How could we possibly have the same high school classmate?’

"Are you sure?" Perry Yates asked.

Amber Sheridan nodded with great certainty.

The next second.

"SHLICK!"

A sharp spike made of diamond instantly pierced through the young man’s body.

"What are you doing? Why did you do that!" Amber Sheridan’s eyes widened in shock.

The skewered young man at their side also stared wide-eyed, as if to ask, "Why?"

"He’s my high school classmate, too," Perry Yates said flatly, pulling the spike out of the young man’s body.

Hearing this, Amber Sheridan frowned instinctively. In his mind, the once-clear memory blurred once more. His eyes went blank for a moment before returning to normal.

"It must be a Card Ability affecting us."

Seeing Amber Sheridan return to normal, Perry Yates finally voiced her suspicion.

"There’s a branch within the Spiritual System of Card Abilities that can use certain methods to implant suggestions in specific targets, either erasing or adding a piece of memory."
