Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 376: Selection Game 6
This was something they had never encountered before.
"Let’s use our authority to pull up records of every game Perry Yates has ever entered. Maybe then we can figure out what her Talent is and find a way to destroy it."
Executors could destroy a player’s Talent, but it came at a price—their lives, for instance.
But that only applied to ordinary Talents. To destroy S-rank or higher Talents, one had to know the target’s Talent name and abilities—the more detailed, the better—and then perform a sacrificial ritual.
"It’s too late. Perry Yates’s world, Cerulea, has entered the survival game era. Our power can no longer penetrate it. Furthermore, all the game instances she cleared have been materialized and are now under her complete control. If we try to investigate now, we won’t find a thing."
"Perfect. We can use those instances to corrupt the planet. Weren’t we successful with that before?"
The moment he finished, the Executor who had spoken just before shot him a look as if he were an idiot. "She’s someone who can upgrade Card Abilities. Do you really think she’d risk materializing game instances with only the lowest-grade cards?
Besides, a White Card might be trash to us, but for Perry Yates, there’s no difference between any of the cards."
At these words, all the Executors present fell silent. As they watched the figure in lightweight armor soaring across the screen, their thoughts aligned for the first time: this Croupier named Perry Yates seemed custom-made to be their nemesis.
"What is wrong with the System? How can a Talent like this even exist? Aren’t card ranks supposed to be immutable?"
"The System never said card ranks were immutable. That’s just something we’ve always assumed.
I studied this a long time ago. To put it simply, a card is just a bundle of energy presented in card form.
This energy is extremely stable, like a water balloon filled to its absolute limit, unable to take even one more drop.
That’s why cards can’t be upgraded. Their potential determines their limit.
But now, it seems I was wrong. The water balloon hadn’t reached its limit after all; I just hadn’t found the right method."
"That’s a lot of talk. So have you found a way to kill Perry Yates or destroy her Talent?" another Executor asked, frowning.
"Nope," the first Executor stated bluntly.
"Actually, there is one other way to kill Perry Yates or destroy her Talent."
"What is it?" The other four Executors turned in unison to look at the one who had spoken.
"If one of us enters the field and gives it our all, we might just be able to kill her."
At that, the Executors present instantly fell silent.
They were all, of course, aware of this answer. But first, even if they did intervene, they weren’t certain they could win against that incredibly sharp Moon Blade, the phantom-like Space-Time Gate, and the sudden explosions.
Second, even if they were certain of victory, they didn’t want to. After all, once they made a move, death awaited them, win or lose.
The whole reason they had chosen to become what they were now was to live.
Meanwhile, on the game field, Perry Yates had already slain another three Executors in succession.
As she grew more familiar with the Moon Blade, Perry’s fighting style became more and more refined. Well, to be honest, it wasn’t much of a "style."
It mostly consisted of skillfully using the Space-Time Gate to dodge, never giving the Executors a chance to get close, and then picking them off once her own safety was guaranteed.
With this routine, Perry handled every battle with ease.
She looked up, her eyes brightening as she saw the moon reappear in the sky. Just then, the sounds of a fierce battle echoed from the distance.
Hearing the commotion, Perry immediately flew toward the source of the sound.
As she drew closer, she saw six or seven Executors ganging up on a single player.
It was easy to tell players and Executors apart. Executors were larger than players and had rather peculiar shapes, making them unmistakable.
Despite being surrounded by so many Executors—a situation that should have been an absolute disadvantage—the player wasn’t losing ground in the slightest.
’Not bad. This is the kind of ally I’ve been looking for. I just wonder what’s on their mind.’
’But for now, I should focus on the rescue. I can figure out the rest later.’
Space-Time Gates materialized around the group of Executors. Before they could react, the Moon Blade shot out from within them.
With the sound of slicing flesh—SCHLICK! SCHLICK! SCHLICK!—the once-imperious Executors all dropped dead.
Dylan Adler, just snapping out of his shock, looked up at the armored figure in the sky. He was stunned for a moment, then immediately became wary.
Seeing that it was an acquaintance, Perry Yates was also taken aback for a moment. After a brief hesitation, she decided to continue her descent.
’To be honest, if I had to pick a teammate, Dylan Adler would definitely be on the list. The reason is simple: aside from his first few, every single card he’s integrated came from me.’
As the sole official Croupier, the Survival Game Administration had spared no expense in nurturing Dylan Adler.
After a moment’s hesitation, Perry Yates decided to reveal her identity.
She retracted the helmet of her armor. Her eyes were calm as she looked at Dylan Adler, but her heart was anything but.
’Tsk. Just a short while ago, I was threatening Xavier Alden not to expose my identity, and now here I am, exposing it myself. Life is full of surprises.’
"Perry Yates!"
Dylan Adler’s eyes widened as he stared at the familiar face before him.
"What are you doing here? Wait... you’re a Croupier!"
Looking at the shocked Dylan Adler, Perry Yates sighed. "In this game, everyone except the Executors is a Croupier. So, what does that make me?"
Hearing this, Dylan Adler slapped his forehead, his thoughts a complete mess.
It was known that each planet had only four Croupiers. Besides himself, the identities of two others had been confirmed: Forrest Wilder, the leader of the civilian organization, and Damian, from the outside.
The final spot was held by the mysterious owner of The Card Tavern.
But now Perry Yates was standing right in front of him, claiming to be a Croupier.
Dylan Adler wasn’t an idiot; on the contrary, he was very smart. It was just that the reality of the situation was so shocking that he couldn’t process it right away.
