Apocalypse: Grinding EXP through Hunting
Chapter 405 - 291: Tracking, A Strange Engagement Banquet
Chapter 405: Chapter 291: Tracking, A Strange Engagement Banquet
Tang Wen floated down from the air into the courtyard, a small cat cradled in his arms.
Although he was a top-tier Extraordinary, he didn’t have the ability to fly.
[Extraordinary Ability: Dark (Awakening Progress 79.33%)]
He was only able to fly because of the cat in his arms.
"Who’s there?" the woman asked, her voice low and raspy.
Tang Wen made no attempt to hide, striding toward the door and announcing his name.
The person inside was startled, then said, "I don’t know any Tang Wen! Go away, or I’ll scream for help!"
Tang Wen replied, "Oh? Someone in Ganshan City who doesn’t know me? Stop pretending. I mean you no harm."
After he spoke, a thin veil seemed to cover the sky above the dark courtyard.
Stealth Technique.
The woman glanced at the sky in confusion but noticed nothing.
Tang Wen waved his hand. "Don’t worry, no one can hear us talking."
The woman was skeptical. She suddenly cupped her hands around her mouth and screamed, "Help! Help! Help..."
The smile on Tang Wen’s face gradually faded as he stared speechlessly at the woman before him.
She shouted a few times.
The woman stopped and waited quietly for a few breaths.
It was completely silent outside.
"They really can’t hear outside," the woman said, sighing in relief.
"What happened to your Lady Feng?" Tang Wen asked directly.
"Well, she sent a message to me one day, telling me to find you and ask for help. But when I went to ask around on the street, I found out you were in seclusion. It wasn’t until tonight that I heard you’d come out."
Hearing this, Tang Wen sighed inwardly. "How many days have passed since then?"
The woman counted on her fingers. "Today is the fifth day. Can she still be saved?"
Tang Wen couldn’t figure it out. ’What exactly is the relationship between this woman and Feng San Niang? If she were a trusted confidante, it would explain her anxiety and sadness over Feng San Niang’s disappearance. But if she wasn’t, why would Feng San Niang entrust her hope of rescue to this woman?’
"Who took her away?"
"I don’t know."
"How did she send the message? Do you still have the note?" Tang Wen asked, staring into her eyes.
’Maybe I can use the note to track Feng San Niang.’
"Er," sensing Tang Wen’s seriousness, the woman reached up and pulled the hairpin from her hair.
"I burned the note. She hid it inside the hairpin for me."
The woman’s eyes flickered as she handed the hairpin over.
Tang Wen said, "You’d better tell me the truth."
His gaze was calm, but a subtle light glinted within it.
The pressure of his Spiritual Power spread out.
The woman couldn’t withstand the pressure and took several steps back before saying helplessly, "It was a spider."
"An Alien Spider?"
Tang Wen had seen one that night.
The woman was taken aback and sized Tang Wen up again. Though she said nothing, the meaning in her eyes was clear: ’So you two really are involved.’
"Speak!" The whites of Tang Wen’s eyes were gradually being devoured by black.
This was a precursor to him using a secret Spiritual Power technique.
Sensing the danger, the woman shivered and spilled everything, "The spider brought it."
"And then what!"
Tang Wen’s eyes turned completely black.
They were cold and merciless, with a faint killing intent flickering within them.
The woman blurted out in a rush, "That Alien Spider is right here with me!"
"Hmm?"
’How could Feng San Niang’s most prized Beast Pet be left with someone else? Even if its master were in trouble, it should have gone to her side.’
The woman hastily explained, "Besides being a Martial Artist, I’m also a Pharmacist. I can use food to attract the Alien Spider. That’s why it came to me."
’That explanation is barely plausible.’
Tang Wen gave a cold smile. "A Pharmacist? More like a Poison Master, I’m afraid!"
Pharmacists held a very high status, even higher than a typical Guard Commander among the major factions.
Being a Pharmacist was a much better life than being a courtesan at the Spring Breeze Pavilion.
The woman’s expression changed. "I’ve never harmed anyone!"
"As long as you’re not lying, once I find Third Lady, you won’t have to live this life of hiding anymore."
The woman’s expression shifted from shock to joy. "Young Master, you’re willing to protect me? I can do more than just make poisons. The men who come to the brothel, after taking the medicine I make, they can last for half an hour."
Tang Wen snapped irritably, "...Do you think I need that kind of medicine?"
The woman pursed her lips in a smile. "Yes, yes, of course not, of course not."
But her eyes were full of mirth. ’Men are all the same. Who would ever admit they’re lacking in that department!’
Tang Wen immediately felt underestimated. ’If I wasn’t in a hurry to save Feng San Niang, I would definitely make her kneel and beg for mercy three times tonight! No! At least ten times.’
"Where’s the spider? Bring it out!"
The woman waved her hands frantically. "The spider has been drugged by me. I’m afraid it won’t wake up for a while."
Tang Wen had no choice but to follow the woman into the inner room.
He watched as she carefully took out a glass jar from a hidden compartment in the bedroom.
"Young Master, be extremely careful. This Alien Spider is not only highly venomous, but its combat power is no less than an Extraordinary’s. If it weren’t so greedy for the pills and herbs I have, I definitely wouldn’t have been able to keep it here."
Just from taking the jar out and placing it by the bed, a thin layer of cold sweat had already beaded on her forehead.
’This was to be expected; after all, she was just an ordinary Martial Artist. Even if she were a Peak Martial Artist, she would be no match for the Alien Spider.’
The woman set down the jar and took two steps back. "Young Master Tang Wen, you must be careful."
Tang Wen stepped forward. With a flick of his finger, a sound like slicing wind cut through the air, and the glass jar shattered in response.
The spider inside, startled, wobbled on its eight legs and slowly stood up.
The woman’s face paled in horror. "Oh no! Young Master, you’re too reckless! You should leave first, I’ll calm it down!"
Tang Wen glanced at her, then reached out and clenched his hand. An invisible Spiritual Power enveloped the spider.
The spider, though drugged, was still startled.
Black mist spread out from its body.
Seeing the mist, the woman, who had been quietly approaching, came to a sudden halt. Her beautiful face lost all color as she hastily scrambled back.
