Chapter 463: Chapter 463: She Can Do No Wrong

She tipped it over several times without getting a drop, so she put the glass down in a huff.

The moment she let go, Linnie Shaw swiftly took the empty glass.

’She was honestly afraid Lily would get worked up and smash the glass over her head. Better to be careful.’

She chose her words carefully. "There’s no more. Come back tomorrow."

Lily Hart’s eyes shot wide. She pointed at the wall of liquor behind Linnie Shaw and snapped, "Then what’s all that?"

’Guess she’s not as drunk as I thought,’ Linnie thought. ’Her mind is still sharp, at least.’

She relaxed. ’It seems Lily Hart’s tolerance isn’t as bad as I imagined.’

Feeling reassured, she mixed another drink for Lily Hart, this one a gradient of pale blue and light yellow.

It looked like the line where the ocean meets the sky—a beautiful horizon.

Lily Hart held the drink up with both hands, admiring it for a good while, her head already spinning.

But she still had the sense to take pictures with her Light Brain, though she didn’t even notice she was taking selfies as she snapped a few shots.

After she was done, she propped her head up with one hand and used the other to pour the drink into her mouth.

This drink was stronger than the last. By the time Lily Hart was halfway through, she had collapsed onto the table.

Linnie Shaw got busy serving other customers and forgot all about her. When she finally turned around, she saw Lily sprawled on the table.

She sighed in resignation, walked over, and poked her.

Lily Hart jolted upright. "Keep drinking! Don’t stop!" With that, she downed the rest of the drink in her glass.

She propped her head on her hand again, her eyes glazed over as she stared blankly ahead.

She was staring at the white, circular dance floor. Since it was morning, there was a small but noticeable crowd of people dancing.

But they were there, and Lily Hart stared at them swaying back and forth, which only made her feel dizzier.

’How are there more and more people? Just how many of them are up there, anyway?’

Lily Hart tried to count them. She forced herself to focus, counting them one by one, but the more she counted, the more people there seemed to be, and the more confused she became.

The effort only muddled her thoughts further. Her head swam, and she pitched forward.

Luckily, Linnie Shaw was quick enough to catch her forehead in her palm.

Otherwise, her forehead would have ended up with a huge bump. Linnie Shaw wasn’t worried about her own hand hurting; she was worried Lily would wake up the next day and cry about it.

After catching her, Linnie Shaw grabbed a throw pillow and tucked it under her head.

She made her more comfortable as she lay there, then draped a blanket over her.

At first glance, she looked just like the Lily Hart from yesterday.

’This girl, honestly...’

Linnie Shaw made a mental note to watch her mouth in the future and not randomly invite Lily Hart to the bar for fun.

And even if she did invite her, she had to watch her closely and not let her drink.

Her tolerance was abysmal.

But at least she was a good drunk. She didn’t act up, she just fell asleep. Linnie Shaw breathed a sigh of relief.

With that, she turned the bar’s music down a little before going back to her work.

Half an hour later, after finishing with a wave of customers, Linnie Shaw found Lily Hart still asleep.

She hesitated, wondering what to do. ’Should I go get Frost Shaw and the others?’

But there were certain boundaries between men and women. Having survived the apocalypse for so many years, Linnie Shaw was especially sensitive about this.

’But I’m not that familiar with Boss Hart,’ she thought. ’Is it really okay for me to get so close to her?’

’Still, at least I’m a girl. It’s much better than one of those damn guys touching Boss Hart!’

Having rationalized it, Linnie Shaw hoisted Lily Hart onto her shoulder, making sure to wrap the blanket securely around her.

She then walked out of the bar, only to be hit by a blast of cold wind.

The wind was so strong that Linnie Shaw retreated back inside, placed Lily Hart on the nearest booth seat, and put a long, thick down jacket on her.

The System was enjoying the show from afar. It was only because this was an acquaintance—one of Lily Hart’s own employees, no less—that it was allowing this.

It was only because it was Linnie Shaw that the System was allowing her to handle the Host. If it had been a stranger, they wouldn’t have been able to get near her.

Linnie Shaw finished dressing her, hoisted her back onto her shoulder, and strode purposefully toward the RV.

Her bar was at the very end of the row, so getting to the lottery shop meant passing every other storefront.

With so few customers around, she was bound to attract attention.

Especially from the other shop owners. As it happened, Owen Warren was standing right at the entrance to his bathhouse.

He saw the bar owner carrying something and rushing forward in a great hurry.

He took a closer look. ’That figure looks like Lily Hart, doesn’t it? But why would she be carried on someone’s shoulder?’

’Probably just someone else,’ Owen Warren thought, dismissing the wild idea. He turned and went back to minding his shop.

The other shop owners saw her too, but Linnie Shaw was moving so fast that she was gone in the blink of an eye.

The only one who got a good look was Frost Shaw. He had been loitering aimlessly by his door, wanting to go to the RV to chat with Lily Hart but hesitating.

Just then, he caught sight of Linnie Shaw and whatever she was carrying.

Frost Shaw recognized her at once. Those clean sneakers, that soft, glossy hair...

Who else could it be but Lily Hart?

He instinctively thought something was wrong with Lily Hart and immediately rushed to intercept them.

He blocked Linnie Shaw’s path. "Is that Lily Hart? What happened to her?" he demanded, his tone accusatory.

At the same time, he reached out to take Lily Hart from her. ’It must be so uncomfortable being carried like that, getting jostled around.’

But Linnie Shaw sidestepped, dodging his hands. "It is Lily Hart, but you don’t need to worry. I’ll take her back to the lottery shop myself."

Her face was cold and her tone was surly. She wasn’t being polite in the slightest, nor did she care who Frost Shaw was.

Truth be told, all she knew was that Frost Shaw was the world’s only Ice Ability User. She was clueless about anything else.

As for his relationship with Boss Hart, she only knew they were both employees of Boss Hart.

’Anything else? Was there some other kind of relationship between them? She had no clue!’

Therefore, she couldn’t bring herself to entrust Boss Hart to Frost Shaw. She walked around him and continued forward with large strides.

Frost Shaw frowned, quickly circling around to block her path again.

"You can take her back, that’s fine. But don’t carry her on your shoulder. She just had breakfast and some soup; jostling her around like this will make her sick."

Linnie Shaw froze. She’d thought Frost Shaw was going to try and forcibly take Lily from her, but it turned out he was just giving her a warning.

She really hadn’t considered that.

Then she recalled that Lily Hart had also downed two drinks. If she kept getting jostled, wouldn’t she vomit?

The thought spurred Linnie Shaw into action. She quickly shifted her grip, sliding one hand under Lily’s backside and the other around her waist.

In one smooth motion, she transitioned from a shoulder carry to a princess carry. "Is this better?"

Frost Shaw nodded reluctantly, then jerked his chin toward the lottery shop. "Let’s go."

"Mm," Linnie Shaw agreed.

The tension between them eased somewhat as they headed back to the lottery shop, one walking in front of the other.

Linnie Shaw placed Lily Hart on the sofa and left her be.

Seeing this, Frost Shaw stepped forward with a resigned air. He first pulled back the blanket, then started to unzip the down jacket.

Linnie Shaw saw the movement and grabbed Frost Shaw’s wrist. "What do you think you’re doing?" she demanded.

Her demeanor was fierce.

If his answer wasn’t to her liking, Frost Shaw had a reasonable suspicion that he might lose his wrist.

Frost Shaw explained patiently, "It’s warm in the shop. She won’t be comfortable sleeping in all these layers."

’After all, he had spent a whole night with her. He knew that when she got too hot, she’d kick off the blankets and wouldn’t be able to fall asleep.’

’If she got too cold, she’d curl up into a ball and steal the blankets. The temperature had to be just right.’

Linnie Shaw thought about it and decided that made sense. ’Sigh, Boss Hart really is delicate.’

’For people like us,’ she mused, ’who cares about sleeping comfortably? Just having a place to sleep and clothes on our backs is a luxury.’

But she didn’t find it strange. ’She’s Boss Hart, after all. Everything she does is reasonable.’
