Apocalypse: I'm Bound to a Mobile Lottery Shop
Chapter 464: What Are You Trying to Do?
Chapter 464: Chapter 464: What Are You Trying to Do?
So she stepped forward and shoved Frost Shaw aside. "Men and women should keep their distance. You should back off; I can handle this."
Frost Shaw didn’t make a sound, silently retreating. ’What would Linnie Shaw think if she knew their relationship wasn’t just that of a boss and her subordinate, but that they were close friends and relatives?’
’Forget it,’ he thought. ’Better to keep a low profile.’
He watched as Linnie Shaw gently took the down jacket off Lily Hart.
Now, Lily Hart was just in a base layer and a thin, warm jacket, which seemed comfortable enough. He stepped forward, picked up a blanket, and tucked her in tightly.
Linnie Shaw nodded, satisfied. She was about to leave, but then she stopped in her tracks.
Then, she turned on her heel, sank onto the sofa, and sat bolt upright, staring at Frost Shaw with calm, emotionless eyes.
Frost Shaw: ???
"What? Is there something else?" Frost Shaw was baffled.
The look she shot him was like a prison guard’s, pinning him to the spot.
Linnie Shaw replied with a deadpan expression, "Nothing."
Her lip ring didn’t even twitch when she spoke; her voice was cold.
’Her reasoning was simple,’ she thought. ’She would sit here and wait for Lily Hart to wake up to prevent this guy from getting handsy with Boss Hart in her sleep.’
Frost Shaw also sat down on the sofa, adopting a nearly identical posture.
Both had their elbows on their knees, bodies leaning forward, staring at each other as if in a silent contest. You could almost see the invisible sparks flying between them.
"What do you think you’re doing?"
"What do you think you’re doing?"
Two different voices spoke at the same time, each questioning the other.
Linnie Shaw spoke first. "You’re a man. Shouldn’t you be looking after your own convenience store instead of hovering around Boss Hart all day? Do you have no shame?"
’Frost Shaw felt perfectly justified. What was wrong with hovering around Lily Hart? Others would kill for the opportunity!’
’Why did she make it sound like he had ulterior motives?’ Frost Shaw mused silently. ’Then again... I guess I do have ulterior motives.’ And so, he kept his mouth shut.
Seeing this, Linnie Shaw knew he felt guilty and let out a cold snort.
Seeing that he at least had the decency to feel guilty, Linnie Shaw refrained from saying anything harsher.
Under her gaze, Frost Shaw began to feel inexplicably restless. He glanced at the sleeping Lily Hart.
He stood up and went to the kitchen to whip up a hangover remedy for her, so she wouldn’t be dizzy when she woke up. ’This girl,’ he thought, ’I can’t take my eyes off her for a single second.’
’The moment I look away, she gets herself this drunk.’
’It’s a good thing it was Linnie Shaw who found her. What if it had been someone else?’
While Frost Shaw fretted internally, his hands moved swiftly. As usual, he prepared a glass of warm honey water.
It always worked wonders for Lily Hart.
Linnie Shaw’s eyes followed Frost Shaw. She only breathed a small sigh of relief once he was in the kitchen.
’She had a feeling that none of the men around Lily Hart were purely interested in running a shop.’
’They all had ulterior motives. What a headache.’
’I’ll mention it to Lily when she wakes up,’ Linnie silently planned, ’so she isn’t kept in the dark.’
’Of course, I won’t meddle too much. That would make it seem like I have my own ulterior motives.’
So she remained seated. Frost Shaw had finished preparing the honey water but didn’t bring it out yet, worried it would get cold.
The two of them resumed their standoff. Diana Sharp and Tina Jacobs found it all very strange, but they kept their mouths shut.
It was only when Lily Hart rolled over that the attention of both Linnie Shaw and Frost Shaw was finally diverted.
As she turned, the blanket slipped to the floor.
Linnie Shaw and Frost Shaw shot up at the same time, both reaching to pick up the blanket.
’?’ Frost Shaw’s mind filled with question marks as he strained to yank the blanket back.
Unfortunately for him, Linnie Shaw was also a Seventh-rank Superpower User, and her strength was nothing to scoff at. They were locked in a stalemate, with neither gaining the upper hand.
"Let go. I’ll cover Lily Hart," Frost Shaw said.
"Oh, you should’ve just said that," Linnie Shaw replied, abruptly letting go with an expression that seemed to say, ’Why didn’t you say so earlier?’
Frost Shaw was speechless. Having successfully won back the right to use the blanket, he covered Lily Hart up again.
The moment he finished, Lily Hart woke up, her eyes fluttering open groggily.
Her dazed eyes met Frost Shaw’s gaze, and she broke into a goofy grin.
She reached out and grabbed both of Frost Shaw’s ears, tugging them up, down, left, and right. Her smile stretched from ear to ear.
"Frost Shaw?" Lily Hart called out happily, her words slurring slightly.
"I’m here," Frost Shaw answered immediately, letting her toy with his ears.
She kneaded his earlobes over and over until his entire ear was flushed red and burning hot.
Only then did Lily Hart reluctantly let go.
Frost Shaw’s Adam’s apple bobbed. ’Does she love playing with my earlobes this much even when we’re not in bed?’
She held her hand out to him. With practiced ease, Frost Shaw grabbed her wrist and pulled her into a sitting position.
Pulled upright, Lily Hart sat dizzily on the sofa and looked around.
She saw Linnie Shaw. "Huh? Linnie, what are you doing here?"
It was the first time anyone had called her that, and Linnie Shaw felt a bit awkward.
She explained, "You drank too much. I brought you back."
’I was watching just now,’ she thought. ’The two of them act so familiar with each other, one could even say intimate.’
’Could they have some other relationship I don’t know about?’
’Perhaps.’
Lily Hart heard this and waved her hand dismissively. "It’s okay. Next time this happens, just call Frost Shaw and the others. No need to trouble yourself."
Linnie Shaw agreed.
Frost Shaw shot her a smug look, as if to say, ’See? Boss Hart and I are closer.’
Linnie Shaw didn’t see his little gesture. She stood up to leave. "Since you’re awake, I’ll be heading back now."
"Okay~" Lily Hart replied, watching her exit the RV.
She turned back to see Frost Shaw half-kneeling before her, looking pitiful.
She reached out and pinched his earlobe. It was still a little red, the color not having faded completely. It was soft and fun to play with.
"What’s wrong with you now?" Lily Hart asked, exasperated.
"You have no idea! That woman was so fierce just now! She wouldn’t even let me touch you, said I had ulterior motives! That my intentions were impure!"
In a huff, Frost Shaw plopped down into a squat, resting his folded hands on his knees. He looked up at her with big, watery eyes, looking utterly wronged.
Lily Hart feigned sympathy. "Oh, dear."
’On one hand, she felt Linnie was a good person. On the other, she found Frost’s pout adorable.’
’Perhaps only a woman can truly sympathize with another woman.’
’They understand the difficult circumstances women face in the apocalypse, and some of the darker things that happen.’
Seeing Frost Shaw’s pout growing more and more pronounced, she had no choice but to hook an arm around his neck, pull him in, and kiss him.
Frost Shaw froze for a second, then wrapped his arms around her neck and deepened the sudden kiss.
"Don’t be angry, baby. My head is so dizzy~" Lily Hart soothed him half-heartedly, then immediately played helpless.
Just as she expected, the moment Frost Shaw heard her, he scrambled to his feet. "I’ll go get your honey water," he said in a rush.
He hurried to the kitchen and hurried back, carrying the glass of honey water.
He thoughtfully held the glass to Lily Hart’s lips. "Here, drink up. You won’t be dizzy anymore."
Lily Hart opened her mouth and, letting him guide the glass, gulped the entire thing down.
She really did feel a little better after drinking it.
Lily Hart leaned back on the sofa, shifting into a more comfortable position.
Frost Shaw returned the glass to the kitchen, then came back to Lily Hart’s side, quietly standing guard.
