“Speak, give me an explanation, after all, I still consider you a friend.”

Wen Yu said, then casually took a cup from the coffee table and poured himself a drink. He leaned against the sofa, staring at Bai as if trying to find some answers in Bai’s eyes.

But there was nothing.

Wen Yu couldn’t read Bai’s emotions at all.

“Well, about being friends, I’ve always considered you a friend. You know my secret, and I know yours… Okay, okay, I’ll bring the topic back, stop looking at me like you want to kill me…”

Bai said this and then pointed at the Balu Monster in Wen Yu’s hand.

“This thing is just a little bit of greed. I wanted this Balu Monster, just like I wanted Ye Nan before. After all, you know and you’ve seen, I devoured Ye Nan, I have a good appetite…”

Having said this, Bai shrugged at Wen Yu.

“I’ve explained everything.”

“So, just like that?”

“Just like that, what else could it be?”

Bai chuckled, raising his glass to Wen Yu, seemingly very satisfied with his explanation just now.

And Wen Yu only frowned while looking at Bai.

“Just like that?”

He asked again.

And Bai might have heard the seriousness in Wen Yu’s tone.

So he put down his cup.

“Wen Yu, let me be clear. We are collaborators, friends, but not superior and subordinate.”

“You should have guessed my skill, obtaining the abilities of the sealed one through consuming Sealing Spheres. I need the Balu Monster’s innate ability, so I bred a Balu Monster. I don’t see what there’s to discuss about this. Do I need to report to you every time I want to take a dump or fart?”

“Guer, those Demon Rebel Army members…”

“Is this really worth our personal discussion? You can send out a fully staffed regiment at random, and I can send out three powerful experts at random to wipe out everything they’ve established in an instant. They pose no threat to anyone! Oh, I get it, you’ve been secretly supporting that Demon Rebel Army, haven’t you? I was wondering why their personnel growth was so abnormal…”

Bai’s words forced everything Wen Yu wanted to say back down his throat. He looked at Bai, slowly narrowing his eyes.

And Bai just looked back at Wen Yu with the same expression—showing no fear towards Wen Yu whatsoever.

Just like before…

“So, are you satisfied with my explanation?”

“Alright, if you’re not satisfied, then let me put it another way.”

“You’re not dissatisfied with me because of this issue, but because the title of Commander-in-Chief of Yanjing has clouded your judgment. In a high position, you want to bring everything under your control. You dislike anything out of your control.”

“But the truth is you can’t control everything in this world, like this Demon Rebel Army issue. It’s beyond your control, even if it’s just a minor thing that won’t affect anything else! So you are furious; you want to find out who’s manipulating everything behind the scenes, find the factors you can’t control. Yes, that’s me.”

“You’re not angry with me because of the Balu Monster, but you’re just angry with yourself…”

“Does this explanation satisfy you?”

Bai said this with a smile, but the words were far from humorous, which left Wen Yu speechless.

After a long moment, Wen Yu exhaled deeply, slumped back on the sofa, and shook his head with a smile.

“You’re right, my friend.”

“So, problem solved, my friend!”

“Come on, cheers!”

…

“Regarding my contact information with Philip, it was something I actively left with him back when I visited the Demon Tribe.”

“In the Universe of Immortals and Heroes, I had dealt with Philip, or rather the Immortal Emperor did, and this relationship extended to me, but I didn’t expect to be contacted by that little demon bastard named Guer instead of Philip.”

“But this contact can’t really be considered a collaboration, I don’t deny it being a fallback plan of mine. If things turn bad, I might sell Earth for some benefits, but as the Demon Spirit gained strength, everything turned out like this.”

“Guer reached out to me, saying he wanted my support to establish a Rebel Army. Despite being so young, dreaming of such defiant things is both pathetic and laughable. But you know, the Balu Monster is a good thing, so I gave him some resources to help me cultivate the Balu Monster.”

“You know the rest of the story.”

The two of them sat drinking as Bai explained the backstory to Wen Yu.

“By the way, I’ve said so much, but I see you have no intention of returning the Balu Monster to me, so?”

Bai glanced at the Sealing Sphere in Wen Yu’s hand with a smile, and Wen Yu just shook his head.

“I’ve taken a liking to it too.”

“Alright, consider it a job I’ve done for you, but given our friendship, I won’t ask for any compensation this time.”

Bai briefly touched upon the matter and clinked glasses with Wen Yu again, outwardly appearing to get along well until after a pause, Wen Yu spoke again.

“There’s one more thing.”

“Go ahead.”

“Why did you handle the Balu Monster affair so secretly?”

“Merely to avoid causing you trouble, and to protect the reputation of the Independents Mutual Aid Federation.”

“Actually, if you had asked, I would have helped you.”

“Help how? Like this?”

Bai smiled, looking at the Balu Monster in Wen Yu’s hand, perhaps hinting at something.

And Wen Yu’s smile just kept growing!

Bai’s explanation appeared impeccable, with expression and heartbeat betraying no fear, but the moment Bai uttered that first “explanation,” it was like a thorn that pierced into Wen Yu’s heart, deeper and deeper!

Wen Yu indeed became more suspicious, and after becoming the Commander-in-Chief of Yanjing, he indeed had a desire to control everything. But that was definitely not a bad thing!

Because of his suspicion and desire to control everything, Wen Yu could see the clues and find the truth!

Bai had hidden something from Wen Yu…

Something deeper, more secretive!

This was just a vague suspicion, with some logic, but it might not hold up, and there was no evidence—yet some things, Wen Yu didn’t need evidence for.

It depended on the attitude of someone more powerful! Depended on Wen Yu’s attitude!

So he put down his cup, reached out, and slowly placed his hand on Bai’s shoulder.

“Sorry, you’re right, I do have a desire to control everything, and I don’t want to change that flaw! Because now, I only want to control more! More!”

“So, as a friend, I ask you to let me see your memories, is that okay?”
