Chapter 222 - 146: Danger Perception, The Shipyard’s Wormhole
Chapter 222: Chapter 146: Danger Perception, The Shipyard’s Wormhole
The result from his Identification Skill—a power he now used out of habit—made Lin Feng’s hand freeze above the girl’s head.
’I can’t believe it. This little one is already level seven?’
After all, upgrading from a normal person to level seven required killing at least twenty-eight Red-Armored Beetles.
’Even if her affinity for the Upgrade Energy released by the Zerg Race was as high as my sister-in-law Zhang Yurou’s, she couldn’t have just rocketed up seven levels, could she?’
Seeing Jiang Chengcheng look up with a puzzled expression, Lin Feng pulled back his hand and gave the order to move out.
The full Identification results then appeared before him:
[Jiang Chengcheng, Lv. 7/9]
[Life Value: 35, Physique: 38, Spirit: 45]
[Superpower Awakening: Danger Perception]
[Danger Perception: Can sense hostile intent and unknown dangers within a fifty-meter radius, allowing for advance prediction.]
[Note: This Skill is in its preliminary Awakening phase and is not the Superpower’s complete form. It can be fully awakened and released upon advancing to a Tier One Awakener.]
The corners of Lin Feng’s mouth tilted up slightly.
’It seems this little eight-year-old girl really has something special about her, to have survived alone in this chaotic apocalypse after being separated from her parents.’
Her early-awakened Danger Perception ability was her greatest asset.
’But a support Superpower, only good for dodging danger and running away, doesn’t explain how Jiang Chengcheng killed Zergs to evolve before she hit level seven.’
’A little girl with less than a fifth of an adult’s strength would struggle to even pierce Zerg Armor with a fruit knife, unless someone was deliberately helping her.’
After leaving the survivor camp’s main building, the group moved through the maze of shipping containers.
Lin Feng looked at the dirt-streaked girl beside him and asked with a smile,
"Chengcheng, do you remember where you used to live, or how you got separated from your mom and dad?"
The little girl shook her head, then thought for a moment before saying,
"We lived in Tong City. We escaped in a car."
"When we went into a supermarket here to get supplies, my dad argued with some bad men and they started fighting. Mom hid me, and then she went out to help..."
"I hid in a cabinet all by myself and waited for a long, long time, but they never came back. I finally got too hungry, so I snuck out in the middle of the night to find something to eat."
"And then... the big bugs came..."
Lin Feng frowned. ’A child’s memory and description aren’t very precise, but from the sound of it, Chengcheng’s parents are most likely dead.’
’Fights over food are common among the refugees, even if it means killing each other.’
Seeing Jiang Chengcheng fall silent and lower her head before she could finish, Lin Feng tried to comfort her.
"It’s okay. The supermarket was probably just too crowded. I bet your mom and dad couldn’t find you and had to leave in the car first."
"But Chengcheng, do you remember ever killing any of those nasty big bugs?"
The little girl shuddered and nodded.
"Dad would cut off the red bugs’ legs, and then have me kill them. He said it was the only way to survive. He said that if they weren’t around one day, I had to be able to survive on my own."
Lin Feng let out a soft sigh. "Your dad was right."
’Tong City is just north of Hai City. It’s also a coastal city, and it’s where the 13th Infantry Division is stationed. Back then, they were tied up by that Mother Empress, and later almost got surrounded by the one that landed in Hai City.’
’The survivors who escaped from Tong City were among the first humans to encounter the Zerg Race. Most of them had killed a few Low-Tier Red-Armored Beetles and become Enhanced People.’
’Among them were some bold and resourceful individuals who used the urban terrain and tools to their advantage, killing Low-tier Black Spine Zergs to become the first civilian Awakeners outside the military.’
’Jiang Chengcheng’s parents might not have reached that level, but they were surely at least seventh-level Enhanced People, capable of protecting themselves among the fleeing refugees.’
’That’s why they would have looked for opportunities to help their daughter upgrade, too.’
’After all, once you get over the initial panic, it isn’t hard for an armed person to use the terrain to their advantage and kill a few Red-Armored Beetles.’
’He himself had done the same, helping Zhang Yurou and Chen Yanyan get their first Zerg-killing upgrades while hiding in the stairwell of an apartment building.’
Now, a month and a half later, most of the survivors in the human camp at the docks, near the Zerg Race’s nest, had also become Enhanced People, though their levels were low.
Those women were only level one to three, with combat power just slightly greater than that of an average adult male.
For someone like Jiang Chengcheng to become a Seventh-level Enhanced Person without her parents’ care was simply incredible.
Now that he had her explanation, Lin Feng stopped dwelling on it. Instead, he began to ponder what changes and special effects her Superpower would have once it was fully awakened.
’After all, when he’d helped the celebrity Jiang Yun’er kill a Black Spine Zerg to upgrade, her Mind Control Skill had evolved from its initial charming effect to direct Spirit Manipulation.’
’Just like a Mother Empress, she could control any being with a lower Spiritual Attribute Value than her own.’
’That had also unexpectedly helped him gain the Mind Sensing Skill.’
’He had since relied on that ability to successfully avoid many potential dangers.’
’Right now, Jiang Chengcheng’s Superpower, Danger Perception, was like a lite version of Mind Sensing, but the two weren’t identical.’
’Mind Sensing was akin to a Life Detection Radar.’
’Danger Perception, on the other hand, sensed potential threats.’
’For example, since there was no danger at the moment, Jiang Chengcheng’s Superpower wasn’t reacting at all. That was why she was willing to lead the way.’
’In other words, if some kind of camouflaged Zerg with low Life Value but high Spiritual Value were lurking in the settlement...’
’Even he would have to rely on his own eyes, using Identification on them one by one to root them out.’
