Chapter 223: Chapter 146: Danger Perception, the Shipyard’s Wormhole (Part 2)
But Jiang Chengcheng could perceive danger in advance.
’And then there’s Cheng Zhan’s special Stealth Ability. If that was transplanted onto the Samurai Hunter Zergs...’
’...a general scanning Skill like Mind Sensing would have a hard time detecting them.’
’If Jiang Chengcheng’s Superpower is effective against the Samurai Hunter Zergs, she could become a vital force in the fight against the Zerg Race.’
As he mulled this over, the group of more than a dozen people followed the girl under the river-spanning bridge, arriving before a high wall to the west.
The wall in front of them was four or five meters high.
It seemed the security at the adjacent dock was quite strict.
There was even an electric fence on top of the wall to prevent thieves from sneaking in.
The group saw some small boxes stacked against the wall. They figured Jiang Chengcheng must have used them to sneak over before.
With her nimble body, it was no problem for her. But for Lin Feng and the others, who were clad in armor and weighed over a hundred kilograms with their weapons and equipment, climbing on the boxes was not an option.
Looking at the ten Warriors in the squad, who were only at the level of Enhanced People, Lin Feng sighed softly. He slowly walked forward, plunged his hand into the wall as if it were a blade, and then carved a circle.
He carved out an elliptical opening two meters in diameter.
He gently placed the toppled section of the wall on the ground.
Under the astonished gazes of the others, he walked through.
This Federation-run port was several times larger than the neighboring one operated by a commercial company, a difference that was obvious even from the bridge.
The private port only had two Gantry Cranes in total, while here, there were four or five just along the wharf, with even more in the internal storage area.
Looking down from the bridge hadn’t been that shocking, but when the group actually stood at the edge of the yard, the stacks of shipping containers before them blotted out the Sun. They were piled more than ten layers high, reaching thirty to forty meters, comparable to a dozen-story building.
The crucial part was that you couldn’t see the end of them.
Stacked hundreds of meters wide to the left and right, they formed an iron wall. The only way through was via the narrow access corridors for the cranes.
Walking inside felt like being in a real-life block-puzzle game. Surrounded by identical iron containers, it was very easy to lose your bearings.
A rough estimate suggested there were several thousand containers in this section alone, and this was just one corner of the port.
For someone unfamiliar with the layout, trying to find a specific cargo would mean checking them one by one, a task that could take four or five days without success.
As Lin Feng walked, he tapped lightly on the sheet-metal containers. An echoing PONG PONG sound came from within, indicating they were empty.
Most of the containers stacked like this were empty, waiting for cargo to arrive before being loaded and transported deeper inland by river or rail.
After entering the cluster of containers, Jiang Chengcheng’s demeanor changed instantly, and she became much more lively.
Although her frame was small, the Physique Attribute Value of a Seventh-level Enhanced Person wasn’t for nothing.
In terms of Power, Jiang Chengcheng might not match an adult Enhanced Person of the same level, but her light build gave her greater and faster agility, which was why she was able to explore so widely.
’Living alone in the camp, she was likely ostracized and bullied. Not to mention, she was probably last in line whenever food was distributed.’
’She wouldn’t get much of the good stuff.’
’That’s why she has to come out and find food for herself.’
’It would also explain why her footprints are everywhere.’
Soon enough, under Jiang Chengcheng’s guidance, the group successfully passed through the main container area and found a small storage warehouse inside.
It was now high noon, and the Sun was beating down directly. Heat waves shimmered up from the baked ground, making it much more uncomfortable than it had been among the containers.
Before them was the port’s storage department. The inventory list for this batch of supplies should be inside.
Lin Feng walked inside and looked at the faded and blurry invoices. Most were for coal deliveries, while the steel products meant for sale had already been shipped out.
However, some of the manifests were for goods sent to the neighboring facility.
Forged components of Fine Steel.
Classified as special equipment, they had been moved out of the warehouse before the apocalypse.
’The place next door is a shipyard. The steel used for building ships can’t be low quality. We might be able to use it.’
’Besides, these are huge modules weighing tens of tons. They’ll definitely solve our immediate problem.’
’By the time Han Yuxin and Hu Fei gather and deliver the materials, the Wu City blocking mission will probably be almost over.’
’And before that, I want to haul the massive fishing resources of Taihu Lake ashore.’
’But that requires more amphibious Tank Replicas to pull nets across the water surface and catch thousands upon thousands of tons of fish.’
While Lin Feng was lost in thought, Jiang Chengcheng emerged from a nearby office, holding sunflower seeds and other small snacks. This must be her secret stash.
Taking them out, Jiang Chengcheng pointed behind them and said:
"Uncle, I’ve seen the things you’re looking for nearby. They’re over there."
Following Jiang Chengcheng outside, Lin Feng saw rows of large warehouses deeper inside the port.
Jiang Chengcheng paused for a moment, then continued:
"Back there... there are big bugs..."
Lin Feng nodded.
"It’s alright. With us here, you don’t have to be afraid of any bugs!"
The group then proceeded between the warehouses under the blazing Sun, drenched in sweat.
Before they had gone far, Jiang Chengcheng suddenly stopped and hid behind a warehouse wall, looking ahead with some fear.
Lin Feng patted her head. Through his Mind Sensing, he confirmed there were indeed several Red-Armored Beetles of lv7 or higher ahead.
They were hiding inside the warehouse, sheltering from the baking Sun.
Lin Feng’s brow furrowed slightly. He glanced to the west on his left and then said reassuringly:
"Don’t worry, those are just small Red-Armored Beetles."
Then he glanced back at the people behind him.
On this trip, he had brought two Tier Two Awakeners—Liu Yi and his teammate—and ten ordinary Warriors.
