Chapter 12: Riley’s Ability

Before the dark fog covered the area, Alex also saw in the distance that a group of men had gotten into the Business Building.

He figured that it might be the so-called boyfriend of Felicia and his friends.

"What the hell is this?" Terry asked and Alex shook his head at him.

Alex had no idea of what it was.

But he knew that it was most probably bad news for them.

After taking note of what happened, he got Brian, Terry and Riley back to Brian’s room where his backpack was still at.

And on the way up, he could hear the noises the students made due to the mobile network going down.

They were getting restless and anxious without the mobile phones to distract them anymore.

Alex knew that this was only the beginning.

The power and water might go out next and once it happened, that would be when chaos might start to be widespread.

Jack and his men were nothing but a prelude to what was about to occur.

"Finally, home sweet home." Brian opened the door to his dorm room when they arrived and they got into it.

Terry who was the last one closed it and gave out a sigh.

Riley shook his head at Terry and patted on his back, "At least you don’t have to worry about the student loan anymore."

"But I’ve never had to worry about it in the first place." Terry shrugged his shoulder, retorting him and said.

Alex sighed at them but he understood that they were still college kids.

"Enough. There are so many questions we need to get through." He said and Brian nodded his head at him.

Brian raised his hands and straightened his index and middle finger, making it into a form of a pistol and asked, "Where did you get it?

"We’ve never seen you having one before."

Terry and Riley stopped their bantering and they glanced at Alex, waiting for his answer.

Alex shrugged and two pistols appeared in his hands out of nowhere.

"What the hell..." Riley said and he clenched his fist.

"Why are you able to get such cool abilities while all I have is this." He raised his hand and a bubble appeared in front of it.

Terry rolled his eyes at Riley and said, "Don’t be picky, it’s deadly when it explodes."

"But I want to look cool like him." Riley pointed at Alex and said.

Alex shook his head and he kept the pistols in his hands before two packs of MRE ration packs appeared in them.

"Food!" Riley knew the importance of the ration packs and he quickly hushed himself when he realized that he got too loud.

"There’s water too." Alex said and two bottles of mineral water appeared in his hands after the MRE ration packs disappeared from his hands.

"Great. Then, we should have a much higher chance of survival." Riley nodded his head and said.

Brian sighed when he thought about all the money Alex could be making if he sold the water and the MRE ration packs.

After Alex kept the two bottles of mineral water, he glanced at Riley and asked, "Did you hear anything in your slumber when you Awakened?"

"I heard something like SS Level Explosive Bubble?" Riley said with a shrug.

"SS Level..." Alex was glad to hear it.

Although he wasn’t sure of the distribution in the numbers of Awakened having which level of abilities, they were at least at the upper end of it from what he knew so far.

Terry added on and said, "Do you guys feel that you are getting stronger with more of the mutated beasts that you kill?"

He raised his hand and this time, a metallic spear appeared in his hand.

Brian was surprised and he tried it out too.

He raised both his hands and there were two fireballs hovering in front of them.

That reminded Alex of how he had unlocked the ability to manifest a storage portal when he reached half of his milestone.

So killing the mutated beasts would allow them to become stronger? He thought and he raised his hand.

A line appeared in the air and it opened up.

Then, a portal that was half his body tall and twice as wide as his body, was right in front of him.

"So, what does this do?" Riley asked when he saw it.

"Throw something into it." Alex thought for a moment and said.

There must be a purpose to it and he wanted to find out.

Riley picked up some pens on the computer desk that was in the room and he threw it at the portal.

Whoosh.

The pens disappeared into the portal and Alex could sense them inside his storage space.

It was however different from the other items.

The kinetic force of the throw was also stored by the portal.

He had an idea but he would need to test it out in an open space when possible.

At least he had more information on how to become stronger with their Awakened Abilities now.

"First, we need to figure out what’s happening with the dark hailstones and the dark fog.

"And the best people who will have any clue are those in the school of Bio-science." Alex said and the others nodded their heads.

He continued and added on, "Next, we need to keep ourselves safe here in the dorm building.

"Things will get rowdy when the others go thirsty and hungry."

The others also agreed with the latter point he made.

Once the food and water for the other students ran out, hell would break loose by then.

"So, what do you suggest? The network is down and we can’t contact those in the school of Bio-Science now." Brian asked with a sigh when he checked his mobile phone again.

Alex thought for a moment and glanced around.

He saw the packaging box of a drone that Brian had on top of the cupboard and he had an idea.

"We can maybe make use of that to communicate with them." Alex pointed at the drone’s packaging box and said.

Brian estimated the distance in his mind and he nodded his head, "It should still be within the drone’s range."

"But what about the birds?" Terry asked and Alex frowned deeply.
