Chapter 13: Eddy and Lin

Alex thought for a moment about what to do with the birds if they flew the drone.

The most obvious thing to do was to have someone distract the birds on the ground floor, while Brian operated the drone from above.

But who would be the ones doing so?

He pondered on what he had said earlier and he had an idea.

Since he wanted to secure this dorm building they were in, it would be a great opportunity to check if there were other Awakened among the students inside and what abilities they had.

He would be able to entice them with water and food in exchange.

For those Awakened that were willing to co-operate, it would make sense for him to try and get them to help with securing the dorm building.

As for those who wouldn’t, he would then be able to be on alert when dealing with them.

All of the students in the dorm building were from the school of engineering and they were mostly friendly people.

But things have changed now and he can’t be sure that they would stay the same.

"I have an idea, we will have to distract the birds while Brian operated the drone up here." Alex said to the others.

"Let me go get my gun and we can go whenever you are ready." Riley was eager to make use of his weapons that Brian and Terry missed.

"Not so fast." Alex stopped him and said, "Go around the building and ask if anyone of them went into a slumber like you did.

"Ask those that did if they are willing to help for water and food.

"I intend for them to go out and distract the birds."

"What about us? I want to kill more of those mutated beasts." His friends said and he was surprised by their enthusiasm in it.

After the earlier encounters with the mutated rats, birds, and with Jack and his men, they were eager to become stronger themselves.

It was the only way to ensure their survival.

And according to what Alex had said, the mutated beasts might become stronger soon, so it was best that they kill more of the mutated beasts now.

Alex sighed and nodded his head to them.

He too, had a target to meet if he wanted to keep his SSS Level Storage Ability.

"Fine, we can help secure the dorm building at the entrance while they go out to distract the birds.

"Have some food first before we start." Alex said and took out a few MRE ration packs and bottles of mineral water from his storage space.

Riley went out and came back with two Desert Eagles in his hands.

"What the hell? You had this in your room the whole time." Terry was astonished to see it and said.

"I am always prepared for this.

"Whoever is behind this crap shall pay when I figure out who it is.

"Whether it is the crab man living underground or the aliens from Mars, I will make them pay."

Riley started to ramble on his conspiracy theories on what is happening but the others pretended to listen.

They got busy with the MRE ration packs and ate.

It was a long day and even though the food in the ration packs wasn’t really appetizing, the hunger made them ignore it.

Finally, when they were done with the meal, Terry and Riley took a few packs of the ration packs and a few bottles of mineral water to go around and ask the other students.

Brian and Alex got the drone ready while they did so.

The drone was taken out from its box and checked by Brian, while Alex wrote on a piece of paper the questions he had for those in the school of Bio-Science.

There were questions about how it was for them in the building and whether they had any idea about what’s going on with the dark hailstones and dark fog.

After he was done writing it, he even went to the floor where there were bodies of the rats that he had killed earlier to retrieve one of them.

Alex attached the body as a sample for those in the school of Bio-science just in case they didn’t have any to investigate on.

When he was done, the door was opened.

Terry and Riley came back with some other students.

Alex recognized some of them and his impression of them was that they weren’t difficult to deal with.

"Hi Alex." One of them, wearing a nerdy spectacles, Lin, waved and greeted him.

Another one, who was well built, named Eddy nodded his head at him.

Behind them were some other students but these two were apparently the ones leading them for now.

"Welcome. I suppose that Terry and Riley had told you what is expected from you." Alex asked and they nodded their heads.

"We also want to find out what’s happening with all these rats and birds." They replied in unison.

"All of you had gained powers?" He asked and they glanced at each other.

After a few moments, Lin finally said, "I don’t know what happened, but I heard someone saying ’C Level Earth Wielder.’ in the deep sleep."

Eddy added on and said, "I heard someone saying ’C Level Ice Wielder’ in it."

The other few students behind him chimed in and they mentioned what they had heard.

Most of them had awakened abilities that were at D or E Level.

Alex took note of what they said and he remembered their faces, hoping that they would remain allies with him.

And with what they told him, it seemed to him that getting abilities at D or E Level was much more common than the higher levels.

His SSS Level was relatively rare so far.

"We will separate into two groups with Lin and Eddy leading.

"I myself, Terry and Riley will also join in while Brian makes use of the opportunity to fly the drone out." Alex said and they nodded their heads.

He glanced over at Brian and said, "We will use the flashlight that Riley brought over just now to give you the signal."

Brian nodded his head at him.

Then, Alex glanced at the others and said, "It’s time to make a move before it gets dark."
