Chapter 14: More Mutated Beasts?!

Alex and the others got to the ground floor where the entrance had been barricaded.

The others except for Alex, Terry and Riley were nervous as it would be their first time to be going out of the safety of their dorm building and using their abilities to deal with the mutated beasts.

They saw Alex and his friends ran out and came back to the dorm building earlier, but it still felt strange to them that Alex and his friends were able to be so composed about it.

It was as if Alex and his friends had killed many of the mutated beasts before.

"Stay calm no matter what happens.

"Remember what I’ve told you earlier on how to deal with these mutated beasts.

"Let those whose ability with further reach drive them to where you want them to be and the rest of you go in for the kill when the opportunity is right." Alex said and they nodded their heads while they clenched their fists nervously.

Riley saw how nervous they were and said, "Friendly fire can be more deadly than the enemies, so be careful when you use your abilities.

"Don’t stay too close with each other."

Terry glanced out from the opening of the barricade and said, "We better make our move now, the fog is getting thicker and the sky is also getting darker."

"Let’s move out and execute our plan." Alex said and they started to remove the pieces of cupboards and furniture that were placed at the entrance.

After a while, they were done and Terry stood by the entrance with his hand on the handle of the doors.

"Ready?" He turned back and asked the others.

They nodded their heads and he opened the door.

"Here we go." All of them streamed out of the dorm building and into the dark fog.

They separated into two teams with their backs behind each other.

Alex, Terry and Riley got out after them with their weapons in their hands.

"Should we use our abilities this time?" Riley was excited to try it out but Alex glanced over at the Business Building that wasn’t too far away.

With his enhanced sight, he could see a tall and burly figure that was looking down at them in the distance.

He thought for a moment and said, "Try not to if you can help it."

Someone was watching from there and he would want to hide the fact that they were Awakened if possible.

Riley gave out a sigh and raised his hands with his Desert Eagles in them and said, "Guess I’ll have to do it the old fashioned way."

"Watch out, here they come!"

It didn’t take long for someone to spot the birds that were coming at them from above.

And this time, these birds had gotten bigger.

They were now around the size of a chicken instead of a bird.

"Get them!" Eddy shouted and he raised his hands, pointing them at the huge bird that was coming at his face.

It came at him with claws that were big enough to rip his face off.

Whoosh.

When it got close, a white mist was emitted from his palms and it froze the claws of the bird into ice.

"Don’t just stand there, do your job!" Eddy shouted and the guy standing next to him quickly reacted. ℯ

He hurled a fireball that was the size of a fist at the head of the bird.

Shriek.

It hit onto the head and made the bird shriek.

The damage wasn’t much.

Eddy grabbed onto the frozen claws of the bird and he pulled it down.

He held his palm at the head of the bird and the white mist engulfed the head of the bird.

However, when he was about to crush the head of the bird, another one came at him from the air.

His forehead was wounded by the claws of the new entrant to the fight and his blood that flowed down to his eyes impaired his vision.

Just as the bird was about to peck at him with its sharp beak, he could hear a loud crushing thud.

Alex had come to his rescue with his baseball bat.

He swatted the bird with it and it was flung into the distance.

Then, he raised his hand and slammed the baseball bat down onto the bird with its head frozen.

Crack.

With a crushing impact, the baseball bat cracked the frozen head of the bird into pieces.

Its body convulsed for a few moments before it stopped again.

"Remember what I’ve told you earlier!" Alex shouted at the students and it brought them out from their distressed minds.

Those with abilities that could hurl projectiles did so at the birds.

Fireballs, rocks, and ice shards shot at the birds descending at them from the air.

The birds dodged past the projectiles and that was when Alex and the others came in with their attacks.

Alex swung his bat at one and stabbed into the eye of another with his knife.

With his physique, he was able to overpower the mutated birds easily.

The others on the other hand were having a much tougher time getting rid of the birds.

A few of them also were hurt while they tried to kill the birds with their enhanced strength and body.

It was the first time they bled so much but they didn’t have the time to think about it.

Their adrenaline and survival instinct kicked in.

"Die!" Two of them grabbed onto the head of the bird and they slowly ripped it off from its neck.

Blood splattered onto them but they didn’t have time to be bothered with it.

Another bird had come at them.

Meanwhile, over at Lin’s team, they were dealing with something else.

There were low growls coming from the dark fog and Lin’s team glanced at each other not knowing what to expect.

Riley heard the low growls and said, "These sound like wolves from the forest near the campus."

"Wolves?" The other students’ hearts thumped faster when they heard Riley.

And from what they’ve seen of the birds that were the size of a chicken, they expected that these wolves might be the same.

"Watch out!" someone shouted when the dark fog opened up and a huge wolf lunged out from it.
