Chapter 25: Experiments?

Alex and the others walked through the corridors and they headed towards the emergency staircase that would lead to where the personnel of the school of Bio-science were.

The once clean and sterile corridors of the place were now messy and splattered with blood or even pieces of flesh.

No one knew whether it was from a mutated beast or from the students.

Whatever it was, the place wasn’t safe and they had better be on the lookout for any attacks.

"EEK."

Alex stopped and the others got ready with their abilities when they heard the familiar shriek of the chimpanzees.

He sensed the surroundings, anticipating an attack but after a few moments there weren’t any.

There was silence and then the rattling of a cage.

"Over there." Alex pointed at a damaged door by the side of the corridor and said.

The door was barely holding on with the screws of the hinges attached to the wall exposed and crooked.

One more shove to the door and it would most likely drop to the ground.

Riley walked over cautiously and he peered inside the room from the opening of the door.

"There are animals inside." He waved at the others to come have a look and said.

Alex walked over to see what it was and he frowned when he saw the few animals left inside the room.

There were a few chimpanzees, lizards, white mice, spiders and snakes still inside their cages.

Besides them, there were many deformed cages which were now empty.

The entrance of the cages was destroyed and the inhabitants inside were gone.

Alex figured that the chimpanzees they’d encountered had come from this room where they were supposed to be used for experiments until the Apocalypse happened.

But it was interesting to him that some of the animals inside were still the same.

The mutation didn’t affect them.

It was like how only a few of the students had awakened abilities and the others remained the same.

However, from what he saw right at the moment, it seemed like it was the reverse for the mutated beasts.

Most of the beasts would be affected and very few would remain the same.

He took note of this and he would have to ask the researchers later when he met with them in their hideout.

"Come, let’s continue with what we were doing." Alex said and turned around.

The others also did the same.

Riley took the lead and they continued to walk down the corridor.

It was an uneventful walk for the most part until they got to an open area right before the emergency staircase.

Riley raised his hand at the others when he saw something unusual right in front of him.

The others quickly stopped.

There was a pile of what seemed to be a substance that looked like wax not too far away.

It was up to a meter high and stretched along the wall that was in front of them.

But when they looked at the pile with much more focus, they instantly felt unease with what they noticed.

There were white coats, badges and even some hair that were inside the waxy pile.

Something must have made this ghastly pile and it might be around.

Alex heard some steps from above, and they came from behind, so he quickly turned around.

"Watch out above!" He shouted when he saw two lizards at the ceiling and they were coming towards them.

One of the lizards opened its mouth and its tongue shot out at him.

Alex took a side-step and it missed.

Crack.

The tongue hit onto the ground instead and it cracked the tiles of the ground.

Alex saw a wax like substance oozing out from the tongue and he quickly activated his ability.

A slit appeared in front of him, and it opened up into a storage portal.

Splash.

The wax like substance was splashed into the surroundings but with his portal that was in front of him, the wax like substance disappeared into it.

Alex raised his hand with a pistol and pulled the trigger.

Bang!

The bullets shot into the soft flesh of the lizard but the wound was covered with the wax like substance within the next moment.

What he did, however, angered the lizard and its tongue recoiled back to its mouth.

But before it could make its next move, a portal appeared in front of it.

Purple poisonous gas emitted out from the portal and the lizard twitched uncontrollably for a few moments.

Plop.

The pain caused the lizard to drop to the ground from the ceiling.

Its body began to be covered with the wax like substance to protect itself but Alex had something else lined up for it.

A portal opened up on top of the head of the lizard and droplets of acidic liquid rained down onto it.

Sizzle.

The acidic liquid burned through the wax like substance on the skin of the lizard and it made the lizard thrash its head from left to right.

Alex felt that it was time to finish the job and he unleashed his next move.

Whoosh!

Sharp metallic rods shot at the lizard from his portal and they plunged through the head and the body of the lizard, nailing it onto where it was.

The lizard tried to struggle free but couldn’t.

Then, it was lit in an amber glow when a fireball came at it from his portal.

Boom!

Without any way for the lizard to get away, the fireball hit onto the lizard and an explosion ensued.

The flames began ravaging at the lizard and the wax like substance fueled the flames instead of protecting the lizard.

Smoke rose from the lizard and it stopped moving after a few moments.

The putrid smell of the charred flesh from the lizard filled the air.

A familiar sound erupted in his mind and information panels with words appeared in it.

[Congratulations Host for killing off 1 mutated beast.]
