Chapter 31: Encounter

The cafeteria was a mess inside with the chairs and tables broken and lying around.

Sounds of low growls could also be heard coming from within.

These growls were then followed by the wet mushy sound of something chewing on bloodied flesh.

Alex’s friends who were standing outside the cafeteria, grimaced when they thought about what was happening inside the cafeteria.

After all their encounters with the mutated beasts, they weren’t so naive to think that things were going well in it.

"Should we do it?" Brian asked and the others instinctively glanced over at Alex.

Alex nodded his head after he observed what was inside.

There were some of the mutated rats coupled with some of the stray dogs and cats that roamed around the campus and had also mutated.

He was more than confident that they were able to take these mutated beasts head on.

"Eddy and Lin, both of you stay outside and keep a look out.

"Riley take the lead as usual while Terry and Brian follow closely behind.

"I’ll be right behind all of you." He said and they nodded their heads at him.

Alex could help them at his front and Eddy with Lin at the back with his portal, if something unexpected happened.

They were eager to get some of the fresh ingredients inside so they wasted no time and got into the cafeteria.

"Did we interrupt your meal?" Riley shrugged when the mutated beasts stopped their feast of the students’ bodies that were all over the ground of the cafeteria.

These mutated beasts turned their heads at Alex and the others.

Growl.

The mutated dogs, which were twice the size they usually were, gave out a menacing growl and they lunged at Alex and the others.

Bubbles appeared in front of Riley and when the mutated dogs got close enough to the bubbles, explosions erupted.

Boom!

The explosions ripped off huge chunks of flesh from the bodies of the mutated dogs and most of them fell to the ground, whimpering in pain.

Those that avoided the bubbles tried to get to Riley but Brian and Terry were ready for them right behind him.

Fireballs and sharp metallic rods shot at these mutated dogs.

Splatter.

The sharp metallic rods penetrated through the body of the mutated dogs while the fireball erupted when they hit onto these mutated dogs.

Flames started to burn on the mutated dogs and the charred smell of meat began to fill the air.

While this was happening, Alex was dealing with the mutated rats.

By now, the mutated rats weren’t a big threat to him anymore and he smashed them into pulps of mangled flesh and blood with ease.

It didn’t take him too long and he was able to decimate all of the mutated rats within a few moments.

When he wiped the blood off his arm, Alex frowned when he sensed a group of people getting closer to the cafeteria.

"I guess we will have to settle it once and for all." He said to himself and gestured with his hand at Riley and the others, pointing in the direction of where Joe and his gang were hiding.

Riley and the others nodded their heads and they got ready.

Meanwhile, Felicia who was in a prone position behind some bushes feeling very uncomfortable said impatiently to Joe, "What are we waiting for? Can’t you deal with them and grab the food inside?"

Joe wanted to curse at her but it wasn’t the place and time for it.

He grabbed onto her hair, making her head turn in the direction of the cafeteria and said, "You crazy bitch!

"Listen to the silence inside the cafeteria.

"They’ve taken out the mutated beasts within moments and you think I’ll be dumb enough to go in with guns blazing?

"We might need to turn around and get back to the Business Building."

Joe was able to join the college not only because of his athletic ability but also for his brains.

He wasn’t going to be so dumb and rush in to his death.

Now that Alex and his friends’ ability far exceeded what he had expected, it was better for him to think of something else.

"But... what about the food?" Felicia didn’t want to give up since they were so near.

She thought about what had happened previously in the meeting room where Alex had caused her to be humiliated by the others.

It was something that she couldn’t let go of.

She glanced over at her friends and said, "I don’t care about Joe anymore.

"Since we are already here, and the mutated beasts inside cleared, let’s get to the kitchen before those men inside do, and sneak out as much food as we can." Felicia said to her friends but they weren’t too convinced with her.

But she didn’t give them any choice and pulled two of them along with her.

And those that were pulled along by her grabbed onto the others that were beside or behind them.

"Where are you going?!" Joe was surprised by her sudden action but it was too late.

They were exposed by her rash action.

He had no choice but to do something quick.

"Get those two on the lookout outside of the cafeteria!" Joe shouted at John and he stood up from where he was hiding.

Lin seemed to be injured and he might have a chance if he was able to capture Lin as a hostage.

That was what they tried to do next.

Joe and John lunged at Eddy and Lin while Felicia and the other women ran to the back of the cafeteria trying to enter into the kitchen from the back door.

"Watch out!" Eddy pushed Lin to the side when he saw John swipe his hand to the side.

Whoosh.

A wind blade sliced through the air and came at Eddy and Lin.

Eddy dodged to the side in the nick of time but the wind blade still managed to slice a few strands of his hair off.

He glanced at Lin, who was not too far away at his side, and gasped when he saw a few signposts with their sharp ends descending rapidly towards Lin.
