Chapter 33: John

Eddy was trying to get close enough to John, so that he could use his Ice Wielder ability on him.

But he was facing some difficulties in doing so.

Wind blades came at him whenever he took a step towards John.

Eddy had just dodged another wind blade that had shot at him, and he quickly tried to take another step to get closer.

But when he did so, John immediately swung his arm diagonally at him.

Whoosh.

Another wind blade shot at Eddy and he had to step to the side.

The wind blade went past him and it sliced onto the wall behind him, leaving a deep cut in it.

John quickly turned around and tried to run away.

However, while he was engaging with Eddy, Alex had gotten close to his side.

When he saw Alex appear right beside him, he quickly swiped both his hands diagonally down at Alex.

Whoosh.

Two wind blades shot towards Alex in the form of an ’X’.

The wind blades came at him with tremendous speed, but he was calm and a slit appeared in front of him.

In the next moment, the slit opened up and the familiar portal absorbed the wind blades into it.

John gasped with eyes opened wide and he had only one thought in his mind.

Run!

There was no point sticking around.

Joe, who was even more powerful than he was, wasn’t a match against Alex.

He had no chance of survival.

"Let me go! I was forced to do this by Joe!" He pleaded while turning around, trying to run away.

But when he did so, a slit appeared right in front of him.

It opened up in an instant and from within the portal, a flash appeared from it.

Thud.

A sharp metallic rod shot out from the portal and it penetrated through the forehead of John and its sharp end protruded out from the back of his head.

John’s widened eyes and slackened jaws froze in place.

He lifted his arm but it stopped halfway before he fell onto the ground.

Blood pooled onto the ground within moments and he lay motionlessly afterwards.

Then, a familiar sound erupted in Alex’s mind and information panel with words appeared in it.

[Congratulations Host for killing off 12 mutated beasts.]

[Dispensing rewards now:]

[60x bottles of water.]

[60x MRE ration packs]

[All items are stored in your storage space now.]

[Current status: 192/200]

[Day 2 of 3 for SSS Level Storage Ability.]

"Anyone hurt?" Alex asked and the others shook their heads.

Eddy helped Lin get back up on his feet.

Riley shrugged his shoulders, glanced into the cafeteria and said, "I’m fine but I’m not too sure about them."

Alex had tasked Terry and Brian to check on the kitchen of the cafeteria earlier while he and Riley took care of Joe out at the front.

He nodded his head at Riley and said, "I’m sure they will cry for help if anything happened to them."

Just as he had said so, screams could be heard coming from within the cafeteria.

"What the hell?" Riley couldn’t believe what he had heard.

"We better go." Alex said and they got into the cafeteria to check on what was happening.

When he got to the kitchen, he was relieved when he saw Terry and Brian doing fine.

They were at the entrance of the kitchen looking into it.

Alex walked over and he saw someone familiar.

Felicia was lying in a pool of blood on the ground motionlessly, a more than fitting end for her.

And beside her was a body of a huge snake that was charred with smoke rising from it.

Her inability to adapt and recognize that things had changed had cost her the ultimate price: her life.

There were also bodies of her friends with huge punctured holes in them, presumably from the fangs of the huge snake.

Brian shook his head at Alex and said, "They were already dead when we came over to the kitchen.

"Took us some effort but we were finally able to kill it."

Terry nodded his head and kicked at the body of the huge snake.

He frowned when he realized that his shoes were smudged with the soot from the burnt body of it.

Squeak.

Dragging his shoes on the tile floor of the kitchen, he tried to get rid of the soot and it created a squeaking sound that was annoying.

Riley rolled his eyes at Terry and said, "Stop that..."

"I think both of you should stop and get to work." Alex knew what was about to happen if he didn’t stop Riley and Terry.

Brian also nodded at what he had said.

"Open up the fridge to see if there’s anything left while I check out the cupboards." Alex said and they started to do so.

Riley and the others opened the fridge and they had to take a few steps back.

Power was out since the night before and most of the meat had started to go bad in the summer heat.

It took them some moments before they got used to it and they rummaged through what was available to salvage anything that was still edible.

Thankfully there were some meat and vegetables that were still fine.

Alex opened the cupboards and he was pleasantly surprised.

There were many boxes of cereals and snacks inside the cupboards.

The mutated beasts that were outside and the huge snake that was inside the kitchen must have been a blessing in disguise for them.

All of the food and cereals might have been taken away by others if they weren’t around.

He proceeded to store the boxes of cereal and snacks into his storage space.

Then, he did the same with the meat and vegetables that Riley and the others had filtered out from the fridge.

All in all, it was just enough to last them about a week for the few of them.

But if he shared it among the others in the dorm building it might only last them around a day or two.

He will have to figure out an established way to distribute the resources they found to the others soon.

If not, those in the dorm building might start to have different ideals.
