Chapter 35: Another Day

Alex frowned when he thought about the mutated beasts they’ve dealt with for the day.

The mutated beasts were at Stage II after two days, and he had a burning question that made him worried.

Would they be at Stage III by the next day?

He wasn’t sure how fast the mutated beasts would become stronger, but one thing for sure, they were already getting much tougher to deal with.

And with abilities like poisonous gas or acid liquid from the mutated beasts, the risks were getting higher, but they were pretty useful for him after he had stored them into his storage portal.

Alex sensed within his storage portal and he was disappointed that he had used up most of the poisonous gas and acid liquid.

Maybe he would have to capture these mutated beasts and use them for farming their abilities next time?

He thought about it for a moment and shook his head.

There was no facility to keep these mutated beasts even if he captured them, at least for the time being.

As for what Teresa had said about the mutagen, he could only hope that there would be a way to reverse it soon.

"What shall we do tomorrow?" Brian asked after he swallowed the last bite of his steak.

Riley and Terry also glanced over at Alex, chewing their steak while they waited for his answer.

Alex sighed and said, "We will check on Teresa and the others first thing in the morning.

"If they are fine, we shall make a trip to the school of medicine next."

"School of medicine?" Terry asked and Alex nodded his head at him.

"We need someone that could help us with the wounded.

"So far, we have been lucky but it might not be the same for too long."

Alex said and the others nodded their heads.

They agreed with him after dealing with the myriads of dangerous and cunning beasts.

It left a deep impression on them, after witnessing the newt with its fake voice mimicking someone.

If it weren’t for Alex to have sensed that something was wrong, they might have been fooled by it.

"Thank God, the school of medicine isn’t too far away." Riley gave out a sigh and said.

It was only about a few hundred meters away from where they were, so he expected it to be a much easier trip compared to how it was going to the school of Bio-science.

"It’s settled then." Brian sat onto his bed and gave out a yawn, ready to rest for the day.

Terry was also feeling tired and he was ready to get to sleep too.

"I think you are forgetting about something." Alex shook his head and glanced at them with a smile on his face.

"Wait a minute... I have a bad feeling about this." Terry frowned and said when Alex’s gaze fell on him.

Riley was also perturbed by it.

Brian was able to figure it out and he slapped the back of his head.

"Fine, and it’s because of the steak just now." He stood up and fireballs started to appear in front of him.

Alex shrugged and a slit appeared out of nowhere.

"Damn it. I knew the steak wasn’t going to be free." Riley cursed and Terry agreed with him for once.

However, even when they said so with reluctance, both of them stood up and they got ready.

The night went by without much disturbance except for a few intrusion attempts by the remaining mutated rats, cats and dogs.

After killing off so many mutated beasts and becoming stronger, it was nothing that the D Level Awakened on guard couldn’t take care of by themselves.

Alex and his friends were able to have a good night’s rest for once.

When he woke up, the first thing that he did was to wake the others up as usual.

After all of them washed up and were ready, he handed them boxes of cereals.

There wasn’t any milk so they had to soak it with water instead.

It was a huge disappointment in comparison after the steak they had the night before.

The cereal was soggy and wet, but it was what they had.

Terry sighed when he munched on the cereal that was soaked with water.

"We can try and get more stuffs from the convenience stores later or the supermarket that’s not too far away.

"Better to grab it for ourselves before others do." Alex patted on his shoulder and said.

That got Terry excited when the thought of more fresh food came into his mind.

"I’m all for it."

"Me too."

Brian and Riley added on to it.

"Great, but first things first." Alex said and he checked on the drone that had a power bank attached to it.

It was fully charged and ready to go.

Brian took over the drone and he began piloting it to the school of Bio-science.

Thankfully, there weren’t any more mutated birds that were in the air anymore.

Along the way, there were now students who had ventured out from their building, most likely due to the hunger and thirst.

The bodies of the mutated beasts were also gone.

Alex figured that someone or something might have dragged them off to be consumed.

He hasn’t seen any of the mutated beasts devouring each other but he wouldn’t put it past them as something they would do.

The drone flew past the path they took the day before and it reached the top floor where Teresa and the others were hiding safely.

An opening appeared when the buzzing sound of the drone could be heard and Alice let the drone into the research lab.

Brian waited until she was done writing down a note and attached it to the drone.

Then he piloted the drone back to his room.

Alex sighed at how primitive it was and he took note of it.

There must be someone in their dorm building to have a radio set or walkie-talkie set that could be used for communications.

The way they were doing it now was too inefficient.

"Any new discoveries?" Alex asked after Brian took out the note that Alice had written and read it.
