Chapter 40: So Close

The wounds on the spiders didn’t stop bleeding, and when the spiders touched on each other’s wounds, they started to fuse together.

Soon these few spiders merged together in an odd and ghastly way.

The legs were jutting out in different directions with the heads and mouths of the spiders appearing in vastly different positions.

Thud.

The huge being, which was made up of these spiders, started moving towards Alex.

Alex frowned at what he was faced with, and he knew that he had better not hold back when dealing with such a ghastly being.

Fireballs shot out from his portal again towards the mangled mass of spiders.

Boom!

The fireballs exploded on impact and chunks of the flesh and legs of the spiders were blown off by the fireballs.

However, it was not enough to stop the mangled mass of spiders.

It continued on its way toward Alex.

Whoosh.

Spider webs shot out from the mangled mass of spiders at him, and he quickly used his portal to absorb the spider webs into it.

The mangled mass of spiders made use of this opportunity to lunge at him instead.

Slice.

One of the legs from the spiders came down at him and he dodged to the side.

It didn’t stop.

Another leg from the spiders had come down at him from above while another came at him from the side.

He had no choice but to leap to his back.

Crack.

The leg that came down at him from above cracked and plunged through the tiled floor.

It tried to pull its leg out but it was too deep into the ground.

Alex wasted no time and used his ability again.

This time, he decided to try something different instead.

Attacking the random parts of this mangled mass of spiders didn’t work, so he went for a more precise attack.

A portal appeared at one of the heads of the mangled mass of spiders and sharp metallic rods shot out from his portal at the head.

Splatter.

The sharp metallic rods penetrated the thick shell of the head that was protecting it, and the content of the head was splattered all over.

It made the mangled mass of spiders thrash around in pain.

Alex saw what happened and he didn’t stop.

The portal closed and it appeared in front of another spider’s head in the next moment.

Same thing happened and another head was taken care of by him.

Plop.

The ground shook a little when the left side of the mangled mass of spiders dropped to the ground, right after two of the spiders’ heads in it were taken out.

With this success, Alex changed tactics once more and bubbles flew out from the portal instead.

The bubbles flew towards the remaining heads of the mangled mass of spiders and several explosions ensued one after another when these bubbles hit into the heads.

Splash.

The green blood from the spiders splashed around when it thrashed and convulsed from the pain.

But it didn’t survive for too long.

After a few moments, it stopped moving and it dropped to the ground.

Alex wiped the green blood that had splashed onto his cheek with a disgusted look while a familiar sound erupted in his mind.

Information panels with words appeared in it subsequently.

He got excited when he saw that he was 1 kill off to have the SSS Level Storage Ability permanently.

But it was not only that.

After seeing what Riley, Terry and Brian could do after they had leveled up earlier, he couldn’t wait to see what he would be able to do when he got to 200 kills.

Hopefully, they haven’t killed all of the huge spiders and left some for him. Alex thought when he turned around and glanced at how Riley and the others were doing.

"Done?" Riley was catching his breath with Terry and Brian by his sides.

They had killed off all the spiders that had come for them.

Alex cursed at his luck and gave out a sigh.

Of all times, they had chosen the most inopportune time to be efficient at it.

"What?" Terry asked when he saw Alex’s reaction.

Alex walked over to where they were, shook his head at Terry and said, "Nothing. We better keep searching."

He didn’t want them to risk their lives just so that he would be able to get his 200th kill.

After Riley and the others heard what he had said, they lifted their heads and glanced at the things that were hanging from the ceiling of the corridors.

There were many cocoon like things that filled the corridor.

Alex frowned when he figured what was inside these cocoon like things.

He was right.

When Terry used his sharp metallic rod to get one of the cocoons down from the ceiling and opened it, a body of a young woman that was naked was curled up inside.

"Disgusting beasts!" Riley, Terry and Brian cursed at what they saw.

Alex checked the pulse of the body and there was none.

The temperature of the body was also cold and the limbs were stiffened.

The young woman was dead for a long time.

Brian used his ability to take care of the body, which was the best they could do, before they moved on.

Meanwhile, inside a dark room, Keaton stood in front of a group of young men and women.

They were medical students like he was but they were tied up and forced to kneel in front of him.

Keaton relished the fear in their eyes when they glanced at him.

Days ago, it was him who was the one being pushed around.

But now, thanks to the gift from the Apocalypse, he was the one being in control.

Keaton took a step towards one of the young women.

Knowing what would happen to her if she was chosen, she shivered uncontrollably and sobbed.

"Please, let me off, Keaton... I was never involved in your bullying like the others..." She said but Keaton grinned at her.

Keaton wanted to drag her out of the room but he stopped when he sensed his spiders were decimated.

"Interesting." He got excited by the prospect of a good show and said.
