Chapter 46: Final Kill?

When David went back to where the others were, they crowded around him.

"So, what do they want?" One of them asked and the others glanced at David anxiously.

They fidgeted with their now dirtied white coats while they waited for an answer.

After what they’ve been through with Professor Charles, James and Keaton it was hell for them and they were wary that Alex and his friends would be the same.

All of them could still recall how helpless and powerless they were whenever Keaton came into the room and dragged out of them to Professor Charles’s office.

For them to never return.

David gave out a sigh and briefed them on what Alex had told them.

"That’s all? I will be more than happy to do so." One of them said and most of the others were glad.

They just had some water and food from Alex, and it was a huge improvement in comparison to how they were treated by Professor Charles.

Many of them made up their minds very quickly.

They wouldn’t mind joining Alex and his friends if Alex delivered what he had promised.

However, there were some who were still wary, and they made a different decision from the others.

"We want to go on our way." One of those who wanted to go said and David nodded his head at him.

He could understand and he didn’t stop them.

It would be a way for him and the others to see if Alex was one to keep his word.

With all of them having made their decision, David turned around and walked over to Alex and said, "Most of us have decided to stay while those few decided to leave."

"As they wish." Alex said and he nodded his head at the few young men and women who wanted to leave.

These young men and women quickly stood up and left the room.

Riley shook his head at them.

To him, they weren’t going to survive out there without a way to protect themselves against the mutated beasts and other people.

Terry and Brian were equally perturbed by their decision but they kept quiet.

Everyone was free to decide on their own fate.

The best that Alex and his friends could do was to take care of their own survival as the highest priority.

"If you are ready, come with us to our dorm building.

"There are some empty rooms in the building for all of you." Alex glanced at David and said.

The other medical students brightened up when they heard him.

"What are we waiting for? Let’s go." The medical students said and ushered for David to go.

In the room where they were, there was nothing but only bad memories of how they watched as their compatriots were dragged away to die one after another.

That made them want to get away from this place as soon as possible.

Alex and the others left the room and they headed back towards their dorm building.

Riley led the group with David and the other students behind him.

Terry and Brian stood by their side to protect them while Alex walked behind all of them.

"Bastard! Let me get him!"

"This mother fucker!"

"Take this you son of a bitch!"

When the whole group walked past the area where the body of Keaton was, all of them started to get agitated when they recognized that it was him from his figure and the name tag on his white coat.

Some cursed and spat at him while others kicked and punched at the lifeless body.

Alex sighed and shook his head at them, letting them vent their anger for a few moments.

After what had happened to them, he could understand.

If someone ever harms Riley, Terry or Brian like what Professor Charles and Keaton did, he would do the same to the assailants or even worse if he gets his hands on the assailants.

Soon, after venting their anger, they continued on their way back to the dorm buildings.

While they walked, Alex was thinking about that elusive last kill for him to permanently keep his SSS Level Storage Ability.

He would have to get the last kill before the end of the day.

But it was not to be for him.

Their journey back to the dorm building was uneventful to say the least.

Not even a single mutated beast was in sight.

And that made him stop when they walked past one of the convenience stalls in the college compound.

They had planned to scavenge for food and supplies at the convenience stores anyway, and he might as well do it now, to see if he was lucky enough to get his last kill while doing so.

"Wait for me while I go and see if there’s anything left inside the convenience store." Alex pointed at the convenience store and said.

"You want us to go with you?" Terry asked and Brian got ready for it.

But Alex shook his head at them and said, "Stay here with them, I’ll be back very soon."

He was more than confident that he would be safe alone now.

"Grab more food if you can." Terry said when Alex walked towards the convenience store.

The convenience store wasn’t too far away and Alex entered through the smashed doors.

Inside it, some of the racks toppled off and the merchandise was littered all over the floor of the convenience store.

There were stuff like toothbrush and toothpaste, coupled with other food items like instant ramen.

Looking at all of the merchandise, he gave out a sigh of relief and got to work.

Wasting no time, he waved his hands across the toppled racks and all the merchandise.

After his hand went by, the merchandise and even the racks disappeared from where they were into his storage space.

Then, when he was done, he sensed something lingering up on the false ceiling.

Squeak.

When he heard the squeak and rabid footsteps coming from it, he lifted his head and smiled.

He would have never dreamed that he could be so happy to hear a squeak.

But here he was.

Right in the middle of an Apocalypse, smiling at the squeak of a mutated rat.
