Chapter 56: Another Encounter

Baldy couldn’t understand how someone could have such devastating power all by himself as he struggled to get back up on his feet.

Cough.

He gave out a cough in pain and it made it worse for him.

Every little movement he made caused sharp pain in his innards.

He wanted to raise his hand and beg for Alex to stop but it was already too late for him.

The hairs on his arms stood on their ends and he lifted his head to see what was happening.

It was the last thing that he saw.

Bolts of lightning strikes descended on him and it blew his head off immediately.

Riley, Terry and Brian who had gotten out from the car had the same thought that Baldy had.

Alex by himself was so much formidable and strong among them.

They wanted to give him a thumbs up but the screeching sounds of tires from behind stopped them.

The men who had ambushed them back in the rows of houses thought that Baldy could take care of them but these men were horrified when they saw the headless body of Baldy.

"Quick, get out of here!" One of them shouted and they tried to turn their cars around.

But Riley and the others wouldn’t let them.

Bubbles appeared in front of Riley and they flew at the cars near him.

Brian unleashed his pillars of fire at the other cars. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ

And Terry used his metallic blocks to block the routes of where the cars were going.

These men tried to fire back at them but they weren’t too much of a threat.

Alex’s portals appeared in front of them and they absorbed the bullets into his storage space.

By the time Alex had gotten out from the car, these men were already taken care of by Riley, Terry and Brian.

A familiar sound erupted in his mind and information panels with words appeared in it.

[Congratulations to Host for killing off 1 enemy.]

[Dispensing rewards now:]

[10x bottles of water.]

[All items are stored in your storage space now.]

[Current status: 131/100]

[Day 1 of 1 for SSS Level Lightning Wielder.]

"I guess we might have much work to do for this trip." Alex glanced at the carnage in front of him and said.

"Hey, we weren’t expecting an amusement park out here." Riley said while he walked back towards him with Terry and Brian.

Terry and Brian shrugged and nodded at what he had said.

They were prepared for this.

Alex and his friends proceeded to get the car back onto its wheels and they continued on their trip.

They stayed on high alert and kept quiet this time.

As they continued on their journey towards the supermarket, it got more troublesome for them.

More cars were left abandoned on the road with their windshields shattered or dents that were left on the exterior of the cars.

These cars must have been attacked by mutated beasts while they tried to get to somewhere safe.

Alex and his friends had to get out of the car and push them aside, paving a way for them to get through the road.

Finally, when they cleared through the congested stretch of road, a car approached them from the opposite end.

It was an ambulance and a woman dressed in nurse’s uniform stepped out from it after the ambulance stopped some distance away from where Alex was.

She raised her hands up in the air to show that she was without any firearms.

"Stop, I need your help please." she shouted at them with a shaking voice.

"Should we stop?" Riley wasn’t sure so he glanced at Alex and asked.

Alex frowned and thought for a moment.

She was either out to trap them like what Baldy did earlier or she was really just desperate for help from them.

She glanced over at the ambulance and there were some old men and women with kids who had gotten out from the back of it.

Alex frowned when he saw them.

He wasn’t sure how they were able to survive so far out here and what the nurse did was so dangerous.

They might have been killed if they’d approached someone else.

"Stop." Alex said and Riley did so.

He got out of the car and said to the nurse, "What do you want?"

The nurse’s eyes gleamed when she heard him and she quickly said, "I need some bandages, fever medicine, and most important of all, food and water..."

He took out his back pack from the car, picked out a bottle of water from it and said, "I have what you want, but I need you to answer some questions for me."

The least he could have in exchange was to get some valuable information from her.

"I can do that." The nurse nodded her head vigorously.

"Where are you going?"

"I am trying to head for the quarantine area, down south by the pier of the city, that the authorities had designated."

"Quarantine area?" Alex frowned and took note of it.

"Yes, there were pamphlets about it dropped from the sky a day ago.

"We’ve come all the way through here from the north." She said and took out a pamphlet from her pocket and put it onto the ground.

"Since you came from the north, why didn’t you stop and try to gather food from the supermarket not too far away?" Alex pondered on it and asked.

The nurse shook her head at him and said, "The place is a no go area now.

"It’s been over run by those horrific creatures.

"There were some survivors that escaped said that there was a beast that stood as tall as three floors.

"I wouldn’t go there if I were you."

"Thanks for the warning. But do be more careful when you meet someone else next time." Alex took note of what she had said and he put down what she had asked for on the ground beside him.

"Stand far away from the ambulance while we pass." he said to the nurse and she nodded her head.

He still had to make sure that she wasn’t an Awakened to be safe.

The nurse together with the old folks and the kids stepped aside for Alex and his friends to approach.

Their car stopped where she had left pamphlet and Alex opened the door to pick it up.

After which, their car sped off.

Alex frowned when he read what was on the pamphlet.
