Chapter 9: First Time?!

Alex heard something coming down at him and he lifted his head to see what it was.

There were rats descending from the air-con duct but they were different.

These rats were three times the size of the other rats that he had dealt with so far, it more or less confirmed his hunch that the mutation of the beasts was just beginning.

But right now, it was no time to ponder on it.

He swung his baseball bat at the rats that were coming at his face.

Thunk.

The baseball bat hit and the rat was slammed into the wall.

Unlike the other rats earlier it spat out a mouthful of blood and it got on its feet to come at Alex again.

And in the meantime, Alex had to deal with the remaining three rats that had came at him at the same time.

One of the rats got onto his baseball bat and it crawled along the baseball bat, trying to reach the body of Alex.

However, Alex kept calm and did what he could first.

He swung his baseball bat at the remaining two rats and two loud thuds could be heard when they slammed into the wall, just like the earlier rat.

Then he took out his knife with his other hand and he stabbed it into the eyes of the rat.

Splatter.

Blood splattered from the eyes of the rat and Alex twisted the blade of the knife, exacting maximum pain and damage on it.

It squeaked and its body trembled uncontrollably from the pain.

Alex then flung the rat at the ground, onto the three rats that were coming at him.

The rats dodged their compatriot when it slammed into the ground.

Alex took the opportunity and he stomped on one of the rats with all his might.

Splatter.

His feet landed, squashing the rat into a mangled mass of blood, flesh and bones.

Its innards were squeezed out from the side of its body and after a few moments the rat stopped moving.

Alex wanted to stomp on the other two rats, but there were more of the rats that had appeared from the stairs and they came at him together.

Jack smirked and he licked his lips while he saw Alex dealing with all the rats.

Thunk.

He was surprised when he saw Alex throwing his baseball bat at the rats and said, "Giving up already? I can consider to let you join my gang if you want to.

"It would be such a waste for someone like you to become the feed for them."

He smirked and pointed at the rats that were beginning to overwhelm Alex with their numbers.

But he was surprised when Alex took a glance at him and gave him a smirk instead.

Then, a pistol appeared out of nowhere in Alex’s hand.

Jack frowned and muttered to himself, "How can it be..."

Alex had taken out one of the pistols from his storage space and he wasted no time to fire at the rats.

Bang!

The sound of his gunshot made Jack jump instinctively as it echoed through the corridor.

And with Alex’s enhanced senses, due to his SSS Level Ability, he was able to pick off the rats with a head shot one after another.

Thankfully, the shots were still able to get through the skull of these rats and after the bullet ripped through their skull and brains, it immobilized them.

Alex finished them off with a stomp from his feet.

And when he was done, he lifted his arm at Jack and aimed at his head.

Jack raised his hands and said, "Stop! Don’t kill me.

"Think about it, what if the authorities get everything under control?

"You would become a murderer and a criminal if it happens."

Jack pleaded and said but it wasn’t convincing for him.

Without hesitation, Alex pulled the trigger and Jack closed his eyes.

Bang!

The bullet came at Jack’s eye and it ripped through it and lodged itself into the head of Jack.

"Argh!" Jack cried out in pain and he dropped to the ground rolling from side to side.

But being an Awakened at A Level, he didn’t die immediately.

Alex had to fire a few more shots at the same spot until Jack bled out and died from the wounds to his head.

After a few moments of silence, Alex inhaled slowly as he glanced at Jack’s lifeless body lying in front of him.

He needed a moment to get over the fact that he had taken someone’s life.

Although he knew that it was unavoidable in the Apocalypse, and as someone who wasn’t a blood lusting psychopath, it was something that he needed to get over with when it actually happened.

He comforted himself that it was either Jack dead or him.

And there was no other way about it.

With this thought in mind, the reality sank in for him and his mind was peaceful again.

After a few moments, he composed himself and went on with it.

He gave out a sigh and kept the pistol back into his storage.

Then, a familiar sound erupted in his mind and information panels with words appeared in it.

[Congratulations Host for killing off 9 mutated beasts.]

[Dispensing rewards now:]

[90x bottles of mineral water.]

[All items are stored in your storage space now.]

[Current status: 101/200]

[Bonus for reaching 100 kills:]

[Unlocked ability to manifest a storage portal.]

Alex was pleasantly surprised by the bonus but he wasn’t too sure what it did.

He needed to figure out a way to make use of it but there wasn’t time to do so now.

Riley was still in the meeting room.

Alex turned his head back to check on Brian and Terry.

Both of them were just recovering from the fact that they had killed another person.

And fortunately, they had come around to it like him.

Both of them had questions about where he got the pistols, but they knew they had to save Riley first.

"We need to go before something happens to Riley." Alex said and they nodded their heads.

The three of them got to the staircase once more and when they got to it, they heard a loud roar followed by screams of young women.

Alex frowned when he recognized the voice of the roar.

It was Riley’s.

"Let’s hurry." He said and the three of them quickly ran up the stairs.
