As time passed, leading his forces, Max finally perceived the presence of Varkhaz and his Legion.

Varkhaz actually turned out to be frozen in his position, as if he was waiting for something before making a move.

Max didn’t contemplate his reason. When he finally caught sight of Varkhaz and his army facing the other direction, he immediately shouted at the top of his lungs:

"VARKHAZZZ!!"

...

Lieutenant Garrick stood on the watchtower post in Greyfen Village, facing the northern direction.

Beside him were the B-rankers—Sylwen and Sister Elira.

After Arlen and Branna died, there were only three B-rankers left in Greyfen Village.

The situation appeared grim. Lieutenant Garrick was wearing a solemn expression, while warriors, mages, and support classes stood behind him below, waiting for his order.

Sylwen said, "Varkhaz has already set his gaze upon us, but he is not making a move."

Lieutenant Garrick grinned. "He’s cunning. He is waiting for us to suffer heavily from the monster wave before making a move."

"What should we do?" Sister Elira asked in a worried tone.

"Scouts had expected the monster reinforcements coming from the east and west to arrive during the third wave.

The second wave had just concluded, and casualties had already begun piling up."

Despite no Epic Monsters—B-rank monsters—joining the second wave, the number of Rare and Alpha monsters had increased compared to the first monster wave.

What was even more terrifying was how coordinated the second monster wave was, given that the number of minor creatures who only fought on instinct was lower, as though they were merely an appetizer during the first monster wave.

If Lieutenant Garrick and the other B-rankers, including the powerful NPCs below them, didn’t support the other sides of the walls, Greyfen Village would inevitably give in.

Sister Elira couldn’t find the courage to face those who had died while they remained idle at the northern gate.

Lieutenant Garrick replied in a strict tone, "We wait."

"Wait for what?!"

"For Max to arrive."

Sister Elira was surprised. "He will? Truly?"

Lieutenant Garrick nodded. "Mhm."

Lieutenant Garrick had actually failed to receive the message, as the aerial messenger had died just as the space rift appeared before it could pass through.

Even so, he believed Max would arrive.

That brat is hungrier to kill the Greater Demon than I am. There’s no way he won’t arrive just in time.

After some time, when a scout informed him that the monster reinforcements from the east and west were proceeding in their direction, he whispered to Sylwen.

"Divide our forces into two and have them support the eastern and western gates."

Sylwen nodded and disappeared from his side, instructing the warriors, mages, and support classes to divide themselves into two.

However, Varkhaz instantly saw through their actions, and his aura directed at Greyfen Village exploded.

Lieutenant Garrick didn’t make a move yet, waiting for Varkhaz to strike first.

He had actually ordered Sylwen to divide their forces, causing her to disappear beside him, in order to provoke Varkhaz.

It was indeed effective.

If they could fight against Varkhaz, the monsters from the east and west wouldn’t immediately make a move.

Demons and monsters were not particularly friendly with each other, after all.

In fact, they often fought against each other from time to time, except that the monsters did not find the demons’ flesh pleasing, and likewise, the demons felt disgust toward the monsters’ flesh.

Their standards had simply increased because of humans.

Lieutenant Garrick understood how their relationship worked and immediately took advantage of it.

However, just as Lieutenant Garrick ordered Sylwen to be prepared against Varkhaz and his forces, a familiar voice faintly entered his ears.

"VARKHAZZ!!"

He broke into a smile.

Without hesitation, he grinned at Varkhaz and turned around, not bothering with him anymore.

He immediately ordered Sylwen to lead half of the force to the east while he led the other half to the west.

As for Sister Elira, she was left with her own choice.

She had not made a move yet.

She appeared frozen on the watchtower post as tears began overflowing from her eyes.

Max!!!

The hero of Greyfen Village had arrived...

He truly lived up to his reputation in the village.

...

Meanwhile, Varkhaz, who had actually not been paying attention behind him, frowned heavily when a voice shouted toward him.

He immediately turned around, and his Legion followed him, curious to see who was revealing his existence so loudly.

Given Max’s hatred toward Varkhaz, he had come to kill him, but to such an extent...

The demons, especially the Emberbound Ten, were speechless.

They turned around and were shocked to see a force almost comparable to them heading in their direction.

Belzura, a female demon with burning eyes and constantly floating embers around her body, spoke, "It seems the variable from before has appeared again."

Ignis, the current Ember Champion, had his fiery eyes burst intensely as he asked, "The variable? The one who killed my brother?"

Scylla, the current Ash Fang, who had failed to assassinate Max when he was chasing him, asked in a somber tone, "The one who killed my brother?"

Belzura nodded. "That’s the one.

The one my eyes can’t see through."

Varkhaz snorted.

Even so, he was a meticulous individual.

As much as possible, he did not want to engage directly against an opponent he had yet to understand.

Especially when Belzura described the opponent as a variable.

In other words, an individual difficult to see through.

However, Varkhaz could not retreat. He had already spent a lot of resources, and Tharvok, their Rift Binder, could not manifest a Rift Gate again, as he was truly exhausted.

Of course, it did not mean he was useless in the battle.

He belonged to the Emberbound Ten of Varkhaz’s Legion for a reason.

Varkhaz raised his Ashrender and pointed at Max.

Since the B-ranker behind him didn’t care for him after learning of the variable’s appearance, he did not need to worry about them.

He could focus on the upcoming battle at hand.

He shouted, "Engage!"

His Legion immediately scurried forward toward Max and his Demon Hunters.

At the same time, Max, while riding his horse, raised both of his hands and formed a "gun" sign with his fingers.

These "gun" signs helped him multicast five Radiant Spears at once, illuminating the darkness that was enveloped by the night...
