Apocalypse Online: Regression of SSS-Class Summoner
Chapter 218: Divine Blade
The Holy Knight was stunned.
Since Max’s Radiant Knight was protecting Seraphina, he could naturally accept Max’s proposal.
However...
"I have to refuse. My responsibility is to protect—"
"Listen to him," said Seraphina.
Her tone was resolute, and she didn’t even spare him a glance, as she was deeply focused on casting healing spells on the demon hunters in the frontline.
She was already frustrated that she had failed to protect some of the demon hunters who were eventually killed, but slowly... she was becoming accustomed to it.
Now that Max was ready to make a move against the powerful demon, she would definitely not let him be given a chance to empower his legions and fight back, increasing the casualties as a result.
The Holy Knight was utterly surprised by Seraphina.
At the same time, aside from the High Pontiff’s clear instruction to protect Seraphina during the campaign, the High Pontiff also trusted Seraphina’s judgment and Max’s capability to protect her.
In other words, aside from being Seraphina’s shield, the High Pontiff also wished for the Holy Knight to become her sword.
Furthermore, the Holy Knight carried the Authority of Salvation—not merely the concept of being a swordsman following the Paladin class sequence with holy damage.
His swordsmanship itself embodied the principle of saving others.
If the Saintess wished for others not to die against demons, the Holy Knight swore to stand between those demon hunters and death.
The Holy Knight jumped from his horse and bowed toward Seraphina.
At the same time, Hector moved again to protect Seraphina from long-range attacks by the demons.
The Holy Knight glanced at him before deciding to protect Max in his battle against the Greater Demon, Varkhaz.
His passive skill immediately took effect.
Guardian’s Resolve.
The Holy Knight’s passive skill allowed him to grow stronger when protecting another individual.
Now, that individual was Max instead of Seraphina.
As he arrived beside Max, he felt the power of the Authority amplifying his body—increasing his defense and resistance against crowd-control abilities.
At the same time, he felt as though he could block any attack directed at Max.
They simultaneously glanced at Varkhaz, who was walking toward them.
The demon hunters couldn’t help but shudder when they saw his presence growing larger through their peripheral vision.
The fear affected their combat performance, causing Seraphina to cast her spell—Divine Purification—on the demon hunters.
Unfortunately, it had little effect on them.
The fear was a natural response when weaker creatures perceived the presence of Varkhaz growing closer.
Varkhaz naturally exuded a tyrannical presence.
Even Divine Purification could not erase it.
In the end, Seraphina could only cast another high-mana-cost spell to protect the demon hunters—Guardian’s Benediction.
It would grant an ally a temporary portion of her Authority, increasing their defense, magic resistance, and health regeneration, while also granting resistance to fear and corruption. It could even prevent one instance of lethal damage while the blessing remained active.
That was all she could do as she watched Varkhaz approach the main battlefield.
She turned toward Max and was utterly surprised by his action.
Max cast a Radiant Weave spell from his hand and entangled its other end with a massive demon.
He suddenly pulled the demon, but given its immense weight, he ended up flying toward it instead.
He quickly used his other hand to cast another Radiant Weave onto another gigantic demon, controlling his movement in mid-air and avoiding a full collision with the first demon.
Such a dazzling action left Seraphina dumbstruck.
At the same time, her Holy Knight was stunned.
Weren’t we supposed to wait for Varkhaz to come while he bombarded him with his spells like earlier?
What’s with the active engagement now?
Just as he thought so, he was forced to make a move when Max soon arrived above Varkhaz with a thrilled expression.
He was definitely fearless and even dared to cast his long-range spells at such close range.
Varkhaz was naturally dumbfounded by Max’s action, but seeing his prey flying above him and presenting himself, Varkhaz naturally would not allow such an opportunity to slip through his fingers.
Without hesitation, he pushed his open palm forward, causing Hellfire to soar toward Max, wanting to engulf him whole.
He didn’t care if Max were to vanish into ashes, as there was no way a bearer of a Divine Authority would be easy to kill, especially now that Max had also entered the major B-rank.
As expected, when Max felt the scorching heat of the Hellfire—capable not only of burning the mana inside his body but also of damaging his soul—he simply cast Radiant Weave sideways.
Once it grabbed onto the horn of a gigantic demon, Max was quickly pulled toward it, evading the Hellfire just as it was about to engulf him.
He cast Radiant Weave again to control his movement in mid-air, making it appear as though he was flying.
His unusual movement annoyed Varkhaz, who simply swung his hand, causing the Hellfire to follow Max.
Max simply cast Radiant Weave again, flying in a different direction and evading the Hellfire.
At the same time, when he flew toward an isolated area, he summoned the last Radiant Knight he had yet to summon.
Sebastian—the Radiant Arcanist.
He strictly instructed him to remain low-profile and only strike at Varkhaz if he found an opportunity.
Sebastian followed Max’s instructions and warily swept his gaze around.
Max flew in a bizarre manner, using his Radiant Weave as his catalyst, evading the demons’ attacks and Varkhaz’s Hellfire.
Until the Holy Knight finally drew closer to Varkhaz, the latter simply ignored him.
The Holy Knight appeared normal at first, but Varkhaz didn’t know that the Holy Knight was wearing armor that naturally suppressed the presence of the Authority of Salvation.
As the Holy Knight arrived behind Varkhaz, the latter could no longer ignore him and swung his massive greatsword toward the Holy Knight.
Seeing the massive greatsword heading toward him, the Holy Knight drew his sword and entered a defensive sword stance.
His sword glimmered with Divine Mana, obviously emanating from the Authority of Salvation.
Varkhaz was stunned.
He watched as his massive greatsword was about to collide with the Holy Knight’s divine blade.
Are bearers of Divine Authority really this easy to encounter nowadays?
