Apocalypse Online: Regression of SSS-Class Summoner

Chapter 239: The Southern Frontier’s Situation

  • Next Chapter

The demon hunters and demons clashed in various places.

The Imperial Army was told to remain on standby, as their high-ranking officials strictly informed them not to get in the way of the demon hunters, which understandably infuriated them.

It was inevitable.

The demon hunters coordinated well with each other, as different groups were led by their respective leaders after being trained in the Demon Hunters Academy.

For the Imperial Army to join in would naturally break their momentum.

Max specifically said to the High General, "Have your army act as a reinforcement. If my demon hunters fail to stop a demon army, the Imperial Army should take care of it."

The High General was naturally stunned.

However, he did not question Max.

Though, he couldn’t help but feel like Max was too arrogant.

They continued to observe the situation through the Southern Frontier Map while waiting for Matilda’s reports.

Just half an hour later, Matilda finally spoke.

"Gareth’s team has wiped out a demon army.

"The casualties are expected to rise to a hundred.

"They are now waiting for an order."

Max nodded. "Let them take a rest."

Matilda nodded.

Suddenly, her face turned grim as she spoke in a heavy tone.

"The Ironwall Team is in need of reinforcement. Should we mobilize Gareth?"

The Ironwall Team was a B-rank team that focused more on defensive warfare under the Iron Alpha—a team led by Gareth.

Despite Gareth’s primary role being defensive warfare, that didn’t mean he could not strike first against a demon army.

However, the B-rank teams, which were independent teams that focused more on protecting the villages, were not nearly as powerful as the Iron Alpha’s main team.

If they were to face a demon army as powerful as the enemies Gareth had faced, they would naturally suffer.

Though, when it came to defense, especially when they established a small stronghold like Greyfen Village, they could hold on and protect the civilians who couldn’t evacuate to the farther towns and cities in the north.

Max had expected it to happen.

But just as he pointed at the Ironwall Team, the High General mumbled and mobilized his own forces to reinforce them.

Although the Iron Alpha team was close to the Ironwall Team, the Imperial Army, as reflected on the Southern Frontier Map, moved faster and was closer to the Ironwall Team.

A smile broke across Max’s face.

The High General glanced at Max and couldn’t help but smile as well.

Together, while listening to Matilda’s reports, they mobilized their own forces to deal with the demons.

The casualties were mounting.

Matilda’s face remained grim despite hearing successive victories from various Alpha Teams.

Just remembering the faces of the demon hunters she occasionally met made her heart ache.

Glancing at the Guild Master, who seemed indifferent and continued to manipulate the demon hunters as if they were chess pieces on a grander chessboard, gave her a complex emotion.

Nevertheless, she did not complain at all.

Exactly an hour since the demons’ appearance, Max curiously glanced upward and smiled.

The Demon Hunters Guild soared to third rank, while closing in on the second and first ranks.

Of course, his individual ranking had dropped significantly to two digits, but he was not dismayed.

It was just the first night.

The demons still had many forces to mobilize.

He really did not plan to participate on the first night.

However, his earlier thoughts significantly changed when he saw the Imperial Army and the demon hunters in the Southern Frontier retreating quite rapidly.

They were definitely overwhelmed by the demons.

Soon enough, Greyfen Village would be engulfed as well.

In fact, the players were members of the Imperial Army, and given their cowardly nature, it was inevitable for the demon forces to advance rapidly.

Matilda stared at Max with eyes full of worry.

She too understood the gravity of the situation.

In fact, when she turned her head and glanced at the demonic activity on the map, her hair stood on end at the number of black dots in the Southern Frontier.

Max suddenly spoke.

"I will go to the Southern Frontier. Inform Seraphina and Lancelot to be ready."

The High General frowned and asked, "What can the three of you accomplish?"

Max smiled.

"Four. It should be enough, I believe."

Although there were no Demon Lords entering the southern border because of the Authority of Salvation, the number of Greater Demons should amount to a hundred or even more.

That was precisely why Angelo, an Arcane Overlord, was having a hard time fighting against such a devastating number of demons.

The High General remained skeptical as he watched Max leave the room, hearing the sound of galloping horses stopping outside.

Matilda had also just finished informing Seraphina and Lancelot, who remained in the Main Command Camp.

The High General turned toward Matilda and observed her reaction.

He was honestly surprised that she appeared to have her burden lightened when Max personally made a move.

The High General did not ask and glanced at Danny, who was staring intently at the Southern Frontier Map, ready to coordinate with him.

...

As Lancelot, Seraphina, and the Holy Knight finally saw Max in the distance, heading toward them, they slowly forced their mounts to move forward as well.

Eventually, Max caught up with them and increased their pace.

Clearly, they were in a hurry.

Before they could question Max, he explained himself.

"The Southern Frontier can’t hold on much longer.

"We must provide reinforcements."

"Just us four alone?" Lancelot asked, tilting his head.

If Angelo and his B-rankers couldn’t hold on, what could the four of them accomplish?

Max replied, "I’m not saying that we can stop them. At least, we can slow down their movements before the other demon hunters from the different frontiers can assist us.

"Also, why are you underestimating yourself?

"A Holy Knight, a talented Blade Saint and Saintess, and me."

Lancelot sighed.

"I think you are overestimating us."

"We’ll see."
