Apocalypse Online: Regression of SSS-Class Summoner
Chapter 240: Angelo on the Southern Frontier
Angelo was levitating in the air while facing a horde of demons that had left devastation in their path.
Trees were sapped of their vitality, with many being torn down by towering demons. Leaves were incinerated by their Hellfire.
The marshes had long since dried.
Angelo and his Arcane Alpha Teams, including all the B-rank teams under him, fought together.
Although they were named the Arcane Alpha Teams, many warriors, mainly Shieldbearers, remained on the frontline while the Mages lessened the burden they faced together with the Rangers.
Especially Angelo.
Angelo’s Arcane Domain was truly effective.
The spells from demon casters weakened once they entered his Domain, while Mages, especially those who had chosen Arcane Caster at D-rank, found their spells becoming significantly more powerful.
Angelo’s spells were even more terrifying.
A spell that rapidly created and launched numerous arcane projectiles toward multiple demons was being multi-cast.
They specifically annihilated early B-ranks and below.
In fact, Lesser Noble demons who were caught by the arcane projectiles simply disappeared into oblivion.
But Angelo alone could not stop the unstoppable advance of the demons.
Whenever they killed a demon, three more appeared.
As if there were endless numbers of them.
At the same time, his demon hunters were growing weary.
As far as he knew, reinforcements were already on the way.
These demon hunters needed to be replaced.
Angelo was not tired at all.
He was only casting one spell incessantly, and his mana absorption was more absurd than his mana consumption.
His Arcane Barrage spell was not truly effective against peak Greater Demons, especially the massive demon covered in naturally occurring black metallic plates.
It was an Ironhide Demon, carrying a large shield and a one-handed hammer.
Its physical defense was extremely high, and whenever it remained stationary to receive one of his arcane projectiles, its stance allowed it to completely absorb the attack through its large shield.
The Ironhide Demon was even more dangerous once it reached the frontline because, together with its hammer, it could easily charge through the defensive walls of Shieldbearers.
Hence, whenever they appeared and got closer, Angelo specifically cast a spell for them.
A high-density mass of mana fired toward the Ironhide Demon at extreme speed.
The Ironhide Demon was able to react, planting its large shield into the ground and taking a defensive stance.
The Ironhide Demon expected its large shield to handle another projectile, but this time, it failed.
The Ironhide Demon barely felt the impact of the collision before the high-density mana, shaped like a lance, pierced through the large shield and penetrated its supposedly tough body.
Angelo had cast his main but powerful offensive spell—Arcane Lance.
The Arcane Lance was far more powerful than Max’s Radiant Spear.
Comparing the two spells through speed alone was like comparing night and day.
There was not just a single Ironhide Demon.
They were scattered throughout the Southern Frontier, an area Angelo could not fully cover.
He needed individuals as capable as himself to cover the east and west of his position.
As Angelo observed the situation on the frontline, watching Shieldbearers from C-rank to B-rank have their morale fluctuate depending on the external support they received, he suddenly perceived that he was being marked by a powerful demon.
Then another mark...
And another.
In almost an instant, he was marked ten times, and their effects stacked upon one another, weakening him slightly.
Angelo frowned and swept his gaze around.
To his surprise, the origin of the marks formed a group of demons raising their oversized executioner’s axes toward him.
They had just entered the southern border, still five kilometers away from him.
Perhaps because he was a cynosure of all eyes, being the only human levitating in the air while fighting against the demons, he had been marked easily.
Angelo snorted.
Without hesitation, he cast a spell that converted his body into Arcane Mana.
His body disappeared and dissipated into the natural mana of the world before he reappeared above the group of Executioner Demons.
They were tall, thin demons wearing black armor and possessing elongated horns and pale-red eyes.
As soon as they spotted Angelo, they didn’t hesitate to strengthen their axes with Aura and swing them with terrifying coordination.
However, Angelo cast a spell within a second.
The natural mana around the area transformed into unstable arcane mana.
The Executioner Demons’ actions were interrupted as they perceived the mana around them becoming unstable.
The arcane mana eventually went out of control, and when Angelo finished casting for another second, the forced unstable arcane mana exploded.
The Executioner Demons suffered heavily from the blunt force of the explosion, which also affected the surrounding demons.
But they were still alive.
That was why Angelo cast another spell.
However, his hair stood on end after perceiving the sudden changes in the space around him.
Without hesitation, he disappeared into Arcane Mana again and reappeared at his previous position.
He glanced toward the southern border and frowned heavily.
He had forgotten that the southern border was the place where the Authority of Salvation had thinned significantly, especially after a millennium had passed.
The Demon Lords could naturally affect the area through their power.
A Void Lord.
Angelo thought and clicked his tongue in annoyance.
The Void Lord was the A-rank evolution of a Rift Binder.
They could control spatial mana, even locking space and collapsing it, causing their targets to suffer terribly.
Although Angelo could fight against a Void Lord, he didn’t want to exhaust himself, knowing that his demon hunters needed him more than ever.
Watching the Executioner Demons recover while their marks continued to weaken him irked Angelo.
However, the southern border was still far away, and he could still focus on the demons near him, albeit his arcane projectiles were not as potent as before.
Furthermore, the Shieldbearers on the frontline continued to retreat at an increasing pace.
Angelo glanced at the B-rank Tactician below him, who was endlessly issuing commands while beads of sweat slithered down his face.
"Are the reinforcements already on the way?"
The B-rank Tactician seemed to have expected Angelo’s question and shouted in response.
"Yes, Sir!
"The Guild Master is on the way!"
Angelo was taken aback.
"The Guild Master..."
