Chapter 243 An actual supermarket in the apocalypse!

Livestock had become extremely valuable after the apocalypse. Most survivor bases could barely produce enough food to feed their human residents, let alone spare enough resources to raise animals. Yet Hope Base was doing exactly that.

Professor Thomas’s expression became increasingly complicated as he continued observing the livestock area.

"They’re using vegetables and grain as feed," he muttered, his eyes widening slightly.

He quickly understood what was happening.

The base wasn’t simply growing crops for human consumption. They had established an entire agricultural cycle.

The crops fed the residents, while the surplus vegetables and grains were used to feed the livestock. The livestock, in turn, provided meat for the residents. Nothing appeared to be going to waste.

"What kind of management system is this?" Professor Thomas muttered, his eyes filled with disbelief as he stared at the well-organized farmland and livestock area.

He had never seen anything like it since the apocalypse began.

As they continued deeper into the base, thanks to Ivy and Darren, who continued leading them forward, another surprise awaited them.

The residents they passed continued offering Ivy and Darren deep bows as they went about their daily activities.

They looked healthy.

There were no emaciated survivors wandering around with hollow expressions or people desperately searching for scraps of food. Instead, the residents looked energetic and well-fed.

Some residents chatted casually outside their homes, while others tended to small vegetable gardens around their houses.

Everywhere was peaceful.

It seemed as though the apocalypse had never even happened, or perhaps it had already ended.

Professor Thomas and his team couldn’t help but feel increasingly bewildered as they walked through the base.

Everything they had seen so far completely contradicted what they had known about the post-apocalyptic world.

They had traveled through countless settlements and encountered survivors who struggled every single day just to stay alive. They had seen people fighting over food, bases struggling with limited resources, and communities collapsing because they could no longer provide for their residents.

But Hope Base was different.

It wasn’t merely surviving.

It was thriving.

Just when Professor Thomas and his team thought they had seen it all, they soon reached Hope Base’s supermarket, which was bustling with people going in and out.

The sight sent waves of shock and utter disbelief through Professor Thomas and his team.

Hung high above the supermarket entrance was a large sign bearing the words:

Hope Supermarket

Professor Thomas stared at it for several seconds.

An actual supermarket in the apocalypse.

"Wait! Is that what I think it is?" one of the researchers suddenly exclaimed.

Before anyone could stop him, he hurried forward toward the supermarket and stood in front of it, staring at the entrance with wide eyes.

The others quickly joined him.

"A supermarket?!" the researcher exclaimed, his voice rising with disbelief. "In the apocalypse?!"

Without wasting any more time, Professor Thomas and his team rushed toward the supermarket. Ivy had already given the survivors guarding the entrance a silent signal, and they immediately opened the door after offering her a slight bow.

The moment the door opened, Professor Thomas and his team rushed inside.

"Sardines!" one of the researchers suddenly shouted as he hurried toward the refrigerated section and grabbed a can of Titus sardines. He stared at it in disbelief before turning toward the others. "There are sardines! There’s pork, ram meat, and all kinds of meat!"

Another researcher rushed toward the shelves, his eyes widening when he saw the amount of food stocked there.

"There’s rice too!" he exclaimed excitedly. "Lots of rice! Enough to feed thousands of people!"

His voice was filled with amazement as he looked around the supermarket.

"We’re really lucky to have joined Hope Base," he added, shaking his head in disbelief. "Just imagine what we would have missed if we hadn’t decided to go with Captain Ivy."

"Exactly," Professor Thomas agreed, letting out a heavy sigh as he looked around the supermarket.

His expression suddenly became complicated.

"Now I actually pity Orion and his wife for refusing to believe Captain Ivy and thinking she was a fraud."

"Pity them?" another researcher immediately chimed in, shaking his head. "I’m glad they didn’t come with us!"

Several of the researchers nodded in agreement.

"If they had seen what we’ve seen today, they would probably be regretting their decision right now," another researcher added.

Meanwhile, Ivy and Darren remained standing near the entrance, smiles on their faces as they watched the twenty new residents chatter excitedly while exploring the supermarket.

"They don’t know the kind of work they’re here for yet." Darren was the first person to say as he let out a scoff, with his arms folded over his chest. "Probably they think they’re here to rear crops and animals like the others." He added followed by an outburst of laughter

"They’ll get to know and trust me they’re ready for whatever tasks I have for them." Ivy replied with a satisfied smirk on her face.
