Chapter 763: Chapter 634: Night Raid

“Just now, I came from the village and heard them say that King Yama has ordered extra guards for tonight, fearing a zombie attack. The defense is well-prepared!”

In a guest room on the second floor of Qingfeng Xiaozhu, someone from Dragon Head Camp spoke up. Celestial Horse Island only had Qingfeng Xiaozhu left for guests.

“And we can guard against anyone else… Brother Shen, wouldn’t you agree?”

Someone chimed in.

Shen Linrui, lost in thought, was called back to reality, and after understanding what everyone was discussing, he said, “Don’t overthink it. Put yourself in their shoes—if five people from Celestial Horse Island were to seek aid at Dragon Head Camp, what would Dragon Head do?”

“Haha, they definitely wouldn’t be put up in such a nice place; they’d probably have to sleep in the warehouse. Hey, have you heard? Everyone’s been talking about the explosion, some say nuclear weapon, some say intercontinental missile. What do you think it was?”

“Of course you have to ask me about such things, come, let’s do a divination to see if it’s auspicious.”

A middle-aged man with an honest look on his face pulled a few coins out of his pocket.

Shen Linrui and the others just smirked, clearly not a fan of such superstitious things.

The divination man, unfazed by others’ eyes, shook the coins in his hand and then tossed them to the ground with a jingle, picking them up one by one while muttering: “Initial Nine, Nine Two, Six Three, Six Four, Six Five, Top Nine, Mountain Marsh Loss…”

“Reciting the multiplication table? What a load of nonsense…”

“This hexagram… It means loss, damage, but also accompanied by gain. There’s benefit in loss. One should face gains and losses with a peaceful mindset; a positive attitude can turn the situation around, even turn adversity into fortune. Cooperation with others can prevent further loss, emphasizing the importance of honesty and giving, that’s about it.”

The divination man finished speaking, spread his hands helplessly in front of four confused pairs of eyes…

“Damn it, let’s sleep!”

A companion, utterly speechless, lay down straight away.

“Loss, benefits in loss, fortune in adversity… cooperation, honesty.” Shen Linrui repeated the interpretation in his mind, lying down as his thoughts swirled.

On this calm and unusually quiet night after the shockwave, Zhang Su was worried that zombies would break free and roam nearby, specially strengthening the surrounding defenses. But as luck would have it, not a single zombie attacked. It was so peaceful that even the night watch personnel became drowsy.

From dusk until late at night, many hadn’t even managed dinner. Exhausted in body and mind, those off-duty slept well.

Zhang Su dreamed, a pleasant dream; it had been a long time since he had one.

In his dream, Celestial Horse Island developed into a massive city-state, with the Celestial Horse Island resort as its core, expanding in all directions for at least seven or eight kilometers. The city walls were tall with turrets, high-voltage wires running along the walls, and heavy machine-gun watchtowers stood one after another. The thick steel gates were a foot thick!

Inside the city were vast farmlands, some of which had become factories, schools, hospitals, amusement parks, and karaoke bars…

Everything needed for clothing, food, shelter, travel, entertainment, education, and medical care was all there. In terms of area, it was no smaller than the original Qin City District but featured a brand-new style with no skyscrapers.

Winter had passed, and in the warm sunshine, people dressed in spring and summer clothes walked inside, all with smiles of happiness. Children played and ran safely on the streets, free from vehicles, and the martial arts training ground echoed with shouts of “Hah, ha,” creating a lively utopia distinct from any former city.

“Woof, woof…”

Zhang Su dreamt of arriving at Soul-Devouring Street, entering a massage shop, and lying on a spa bed preparing for a Thai oil massage when he heard fierce barking outside, waking abruptly. The barking still lingered in his ears!

Damn the dream, the barking was real!

“Awoo, woo…”

The frantic barking grew low, a precursor to hostility and attack.

“Damn, it’s freezing… What’s going on?”

Zhang Su, heart tightening, shot out of the covers, glanced at the clock—it was half past four!

What used to be a window was now replaced with plywood, blocking his view outside unless removed—who needed blackout curtains?

He pulled open the latch and removed the board. A rush of cold air hit him, causing him to shiver. He looked into the distance and, indeed, something was happening!

A few dozen meters away, Good Fortune stood tense on the mountain path, facing the rocky mountain area alert, its nails scraping the concrete, making a scraping sound, clearly exerting great effort.

Due to the angle, Zhang Su couldn’t see what was on the other side, but it didn’t matter because he would soon.

Good Fortune was in motion, defending against an unknown presence’s attack!

A grey figure swiftly dashed out from behind an obstacle, charging directly at Good Fortune.

“What is that!?”

Zhang Su was astonished, barely had time to think as Good Fortune was already in a fierce battle with the unknown creature.

“Awoo, woo, woof, vaff…”

“Squeak, squeak, squeak!”

The bizarre animal sounds mixed together.

“A mouse?”

Zhang Su shook his head, bewildered; it was unclear where the mouse came from, and it was able to fight Good Fortune on equal strength!

The thought flashed in his mind but was quickly pulled back by the scene before him. He thought to grab a gun but quickly realized it’s futile!

Good Fortune was tangled with that little creature in such a battle, he couldn’t intervene; not even Tan Huajun could do much. What was needed wasn’t precision, but the computation speed of a supercomputer, as Good Fortune and the possibly-mouse creature would have shifted positions multiple times before a bullet reached.

“Quick, help Good Fortune!”

Zhang Su couldn’t let Good Fortune fight alone; he hurriedly dressed, seeing someone running toward the fray, shouted, “Old Pan, avoid, don’t approach!”

Patrolling Pan Guoliang heard the commotion and rushed over, shining his flashlight into the chaos, with matted furballs flying in the air. He couldn’t make sense of it and thought Good Fortune was having a rabid fit. Upon Zhang Su’s warning, he quickly hid behind Cui Leng Pavilion’s wall, not daring to ignore King Yama’s warning!

Good Fortune and the mouse’s fight was intense—paw strikes, tooth bites, body slams, tail whips—using every possible body part!

The opponent wasn’t weak, skillfully maneuvering and dodging, unfazed, even occasionally tearing at Good Fortune, though unable to penetrate its thick double-layer fur, only managing to snag small tufts repeatedly…

Tufts of dog hair floated in the air, creating a halo effect under the flashlight, making it even harder to see.

“Husband, what’s going on outside?”

The noise awoke Zhong Xiaoshan, who had returned from Xinyu’s shift and was sleeping soundly. She groggily looked at Zhang Su, hearing strange noises.

“Good Fortune is fighting something. I’ll go check! You rest well!”

Zhang Su hastily dressed, grabbed his knife, and dashed out the door, unsure if he could help but determined to try something.

Meanwhile, a silhouette flickered on Maple Leaf Inn’s wall, and Ju Mumio, holding a long dagger, crouched on the wall before leaping down and swiftly moving toward the battle.
