Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 793: Survivors!
“Everyone, please accept my condolences and move on. The road ahead is long, and I hope you warriors can stay strong!”
Duan Wuhu finished his moment of silence, walked over to the five members of the Dragon Head Camp, and comforted them, helping each one to stand.
When he reached the last person, Shen Linrui, he gave a tug but couldn’t move him. Duan Wuhu didn’t force it; instead, he patted his shoulder and said earnestly, “Captain Shen, you should be younger than me, so I’ll call your wife my little sister-in-law. She was lucky to leave without pain, which is a blessing. You have it better than me… On the morning of the disaster, my wife was making breakfast in the kitchen when she suddenly turned into a zombie! I wrapped my wife and mom with plastic wrap with my own hands, then sent them off one by one. Do you know that kind of pain?”
Recalling the memories he least wanted to revisit, Duan Wuhu’s expression turned grave, but the tears had dried up in the early days. Now, only deep remembrance was left, buried in the softest part of his heart. He lived on with strong willpower to comfort his deceased mother and wife, rather than commemorating them with tears.
Shen Linrui looked up at Duan Wuhu, took a shivering breath of cold air, stood up, and hugged Duan Wuhu. There were no words exchanged, just a heavy pat on the back. Sometimes men don’t need to say much.
“So… how big is this pit, anyway? Anyone good at math, can you calculate it?”
Wu Lue sensed the somber and oppressive atmosphere and decisively brought the topic back to reality. Thinking about other things would lessen the pain.
He set up the drone to hover, intending to use its height, angle ratios, and other parameters to calculate the diameter of the pit. Unfortunately, with his poor math skills, it was impossible.
Among the ten people, not one could do it, so they pooled their ideas and came up with a brilliant plan: use the drone to fly steadily across the pit!
“Wow, the diameter is… 350 meters! Squaring the radius and multiplying by 3.14… my God, that’s close to 100,000 square meters!”
Wu Lue used his phone’s calculator, calculated speed and time, and finally concluded, shocking everyone.
The area of a standard soccer field is 7,140 square meters. The pit left by the explosion of a Venom Zombie can fit nearly fourteen soccer fields. If you replace soccer fields with basketball courts, that’s 230!
“Three hundred fifty meters, a hundred thousand square meters!”
Shen Linrui spoke with a heavy tone, closing his eyes and trembling lips. The cold numbers took away the hot lives and souls, leaving nothing—a void, erasing all signs.
“It’s terrifying, the power is terrifying!”
Duan Wuhu kept shaking his head, fear in his eyes, muttering, “Someone just mentioned a nuclear explosion. This thing’s power rivals that of a nuclear explosion! Back in the day, the Soviets buried a 140,000-ton TNT nuclear bomb underground, creating a crater 430 meters in diameter and 100 meters deep—fourteen times the power of Little Boy!”
“How can this pit be any smaller? And I feel that the underground rock layer should be more rigid. This explosion happened right inside the camp; Dragon Head Camp had a Venom Zombie!”
Duan Wuhu mumbled as he looked at the screen, discovering a serious issue.
Given the current situation, the explosion completely covered the entire camp. To do this, it must have exploded in the exact center; it had nothing to do with zombies attacking the city…
“What is a Venom Zombie?”
Shen Linrui keenly caught a term he hadn’t heard before.
Duan Wuhu suddenly realized he let something slip, but at this point, it didn’t matter. He explained, “A Venom Zombie is a type of zombie that can extract explosives. When it’s alive, it attacks by spewing a highly corrosive mucus, so we call it a Venom Zombie.”
The five members of the Dragon Head Camp were clueless, unaware that such a thing was in the camp.
But as members of the reconnaissance team, there were too many things in the camp they didn’t know about.
“Damn it, it must be some bastard with ulterior motives setting the camp on fire! May they go to Hell and have their souls fried in oil a thousand times!”
Yuan Huotu cursed through gritted teeth.
Shen Linrui waved his hand: “Don’t think so badly. It might have been an accidental fire; sigh, at this point, there’s no point in blaming anyone.”
“You’re right; it’s pointless to dwell on the past. Look ahead, huh? I see people!”
Duan Wuhu scanned the screen. As the image was moving, he didn’t see clearly at first but noticed something was moving. In this world now, anything that moves is worth attention.
“There definitely were people just now!”
Lu Yubo also saw it, pointed to the screen, and said to Wu Lue, “To the left, go left. Damn it, I mean the left where I was just talking, northwest direction, see it?”
After adjusting the position, three figures appeared on the screen…
Mountain and Sea District is southwest of the giant pit, and the northwest direction is about four to five hundred meters from the pit. Three figures stood on the ruins; they spotted the drone long ago and were waving their arms vigorously at it. One even waved a scarf, trying to attract attention!
“Quick, Captain Shen, see if you recognize them!”
Wu Lue operated the drone, increasing the speed to eighty percent. The image zoomed in quickly, and three clear figures appeared on the screen.
“It’s Frog, Steamed Bun, and Da Chongzi!”
Shen Linrui didn’t even need to see the three’s faces, exclaiming their nicknames just by their physiques.
“They were the brothers sent to interfere with the zombies in Huolu City, but… we’re missing two people!”
Zhou Haiquan explained to Shen Linrui the group heading to Mountain and Sea.
“It’s great that three of them are still alive, just great… um, can we talk to them?”
Shen Linrui pointed excitedly at the screen. On the screen, the three were filthy, in a sorry state, with only their work boots looking somewhat decent. They were saying something, likely calling for help, but it was hard to discern.
Wu Lue smirked cunningly: “The drone can’t do that, but we can send over a walkie-talkie.”
“Yes, yes, Brother Wu is really smart!”
Shen Linrui praised Wu Lue for quickly providing a solution.
They acted immediately. The drone’s top speed was over 300 kilometers per hour, and covering the four kilometers of direct distance took less than a minute. After a swift return flight, they installed the walkie-talkie and finished in just over three minutes.
Shen Linrui saw through the drone camera that the other party received the walkie-talkie and immediately pressed the talk button: “Hello, Frog, this is Shen Linrui. Hello, can you hear me?”
On the screen, the person holding the walkie-talkie first shuddered, then looked surprised, saying something to the two next to him, getting them all excited. He eagerly put the walkie-talkie to his mouth, looked at the drone camera with a melancholic tone, and said, “Captain Shen, our camp is gone, all gone, and Pidan and Sanmu are gone too… wu wu wu.”
Before he could finish, the man nicknamed Frog was already choked with emotion.
“Don’t cry, don’t cry. We’re back, just entered the city from Longhai Road, south of the city. Cars can’t pass, so hurry over, we’ll talk when we meet!”
“Alright, alright, Captain Shen, wait for us, wait for us!”
The three of them, filled with excitement, dashed in the right direction, clambering over the ruins.
Duan Wuhu patted Shen Linrui’s shoulder: “Captain Shen, could you please ask about the zombie horde?”
Shen Linrui nodded, pressed the talk button: “Frog, what about the zombie horde coming from Huolu City, what happened to them?”
“The shockwave redirected the horde, they’re heading northwest now.”
Frog responded while continuing his advance over the ruins.
