Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

Chapter 794: Terror Becomes Reality

“Oh, heading northwest, huh…”

The group felt disappointed upon hearing this news, as the explosion seemed to have no effect on the zombie horde. But then again, three members of the reconnaissance team survived monitoring the horde, so what could really happen to it…

“I’ve told the brother controlling the drone to stop it above our current position. You guys watch it and head this way. Some parts of the ruins aren’t stable, so be careful on your way!”

Shen Linrui instructed briefly, ended the call, and told the three subordinates to focus on their journey.

Wu Lue didn’t need any further instructions from Shen Linrui. He cooperatively returned the drone to hover, turning on a light, which, under the dim sky, looked like a lighthouse. You could see it from four kilometers away, if not more.

There’s really no worry about exposing the location. Not to mention the few survivors left around, even if there were, encountering them wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing like that crazy post-apocalyptic survival enthusiast.

“Northwest…”

Duan Wuhu mumbled as he processed the news, his finger tracing on an imaginary map in front of him.

“Oh my!”

Zhou Haiquan clapped the back of his hand, frowning, “Northwest… could it be heading towards Qing County?”

?!

The group heading to Mountain and Sea looked at each other.

“Quick, quick, get a map and take a look!”

Zhao Dezhu said urgently.

Wu Lue reached into his pocket, pulled out a phone, shook his head, took another one out, nodded, and handed it to Duan Wuhu: “This phone has a map in it!”

The camp had a bunch of phones, but not many were pre-loaded with maps. There’s no network now, so phones can’t fetch new content.

Duan Wuhu took the phone, opened the map, zoomed in around Qin City, and pointed to the northeast of Mountain and Sea District: “The zombie horde should have been moving towards Dragon Head Camp like this. Then the shock wave pushed them from this side, and then they turned northwest…”

Northwest is a broad area, encompassing a vast region from Chuhai River to Qing County, naturally including Celestial Horse Island.

“What the hell…”

Zhao Dezhu grimaced as he looked at the phone map.

“Heading in this direction, it will surely be attracted to Celestial Horse Island, uh… things are getting worse!”

Duan Wuhu sighed heavily. On the way over, he had hoped that the massive zombie horde would be heavily damaged, or maybe pushed into the sea would be nice. The best result would be if the front turned into the rear and headed back to Huolu City, but the outcome was terrible.

As they say, blessings never come in pairs, and misfortunes never come singly.

Just when everyone was fretting over how to deal with the zombie horde and waiting for Frog and his team of three to provide more detailed information, Flash suddenly let out a sharp cry.

“Squeak!”

In the silent environment, it startled the already nervous group.

“You damn…”

Lu Yubo was about to scold Flash, but then noticed its small eyes were fixed on a certain direction, so he followed its gaze and saw nothing.

“Could you stop being so jumpy!”

“Whoa, damn!”

The response to Lu Yubo wasn’t from Flash, but Wu Lue, who looked at the screen with a grave expression: “What the hell is that?”

Hearing this, everyone looked at the screen. The drone was hovering in the air, but hadn’t stopped filming. The screen displayed an inexplicable creature, hiding among the ruins, stealthily lying on a tilted stone slab. Its whole body was disproportionate and bizarre, its head facing exactly the direction they were!

Due to the distance, its overall shape was abstract.

Lu Yubo couldn’t see the image, but the drone from afar could see it clearly from a wider angle.

“What… what in the world is this giant grasshopper?”

Pu Chanyong clutched his head with both hands, his face showing a quirky expression.

“Is it a zombie?”

Shen Linrui was a bit puzzled, preparing to pull Flash out of his pocket and ask if it had been nervous about this creature the entire way, when Lu Yubo beside him let out a strange sound.

“Ha-choo!”

Lu Yubo pointed at the screen, eyes wide open, face turning pale, lips trembling, expression mirroring Flash’s, revealing terror.

Having traveled together, everyone somewhat understood each other and knew Lu Yubo was a straightforward, ruthless guy. Even when faced with an onslaught of hundreds of zombies, he’d remain calm—never seeing him afraid of anything, as if he lacked the sense of fear.

But now, Lu Yubo was showing signs of fear, a look in his eyes that couldn’t be feigned!

“Brother Xiaolu, is that… could it really be that creature?”

Zhao Dezhu was pondering, but as Lu Yubo exclaimed, his heart skipped a beat, a particular terror from not so long ago resurfaced.

“Hey, you two, what’s that creature, stop playing riddles—it’s really scary!”

Pu Chanyong, with a confused expression, squeezed between Lu Yubo and Zhao Dezhu, seeing the grave looks on their faces, he could not help but feel tense as well.

Gulp.

Zhao Dezhu swallowed, his hand trembling slightly as he pointed to the screen: “Brother Xiao Wu, could you pull back a bit?”

“Pull back? Must’ve misspoke…”

“No, no, just pull back!”

“Okay.”

Wu Lue was puzzled, wondering what’s so scary, intending to zoom in, but hearing Zhao Dezhu insist on pulling back, he lifted the drone higher and changed the camera focus.

After some operation, the figure on the ground became smaller, more abstract.

“No need to look further, it’s confirmed, one hundred percent!”

Lu Yubo took a deep breath, closed his eyes tightly, shook his head, took out a cigarette, and with slightly trembling hands, lit it with a lighter.

“004… that damn thing is called 004!”

Zhao Dezhu withdrew a cigarette from Lu Yubo’s pack, lit it, and before anyone could ask, he said: “It’s a modified zombie created by Cyan Dragon Corps, its body entirely elongated—long legs, long arms, long head, even the damn mouth is long, along with teeth, eyes, everything, just like a funhouse mirror reflection!”

He didn’t understand Photoshop, but the funhouse mirror description made everyone, except Pu Chanyong and Lu Yubo, understand clearly.

“Damn, 004, 003’s brother?”

Wu Lue’s face was quite expressive. Clearly, he didn’t grasp the severity of the situation, since he didn’t participate in the night raid on Cyan Dragon Corps.

“Don’t talk nonsense, check how far it is from us!”

Zhao Dezhu pointed to the screen urging.

Wu Lue saw Zhao Dezhu suddenly getting serious, knowing it wasn’t a joking matter, then moved the camera. After a while, he got the answer: “It’s roughly just over a kilometer from us, even at such distance, it managed to target us?”

“Squeak, squeak!”

Flash jumped onto Shen Linrui’s shoulder, pointing at the screen, squealing urgently and fearfully, then gestured wildly at Lu Yubo.

Lu Yubo, appearing thin, knew what Flash wanted to express, acted as if he didn’t see it, and stared directly at the screen. Who would have expected such a big guy to be hiding secretly!

“Hey, I have to ask…”

Shen Linrui’s eyes were still red, but his sadness faded, completely overtaken by the tension of the moment.

Frowning, he said: “I know Cyan Dragon Corps was the largest power in Qing County. We had trade relations with them, but I had no idea they were conducting such research… is this 004 really that special?”

“Not just special!” Lu Yubo said nervously, staring at the screen. The scene he saw through the telescope flashed in his mind. He used his scarce vocabulary to explain to everyone: “It can jump several stories high, leap twenty or thirty meters, killing people is as easy as killing dogs, and it flies fast as hell!”

Luckily Good Fortune wasn’t around, or Lu Yubo would’ve gotten another swipe, a typical foe to animals!

“Is it that powerful? Can’t we just shoot it dead with a gun?”

Pu Chanyong patted the submachine gun under his arm.

His trust in firearms seemed ludicrous and laughable to Zhao Dezhu and Lu Yubo.

“Heh, guns, its speed is unimaginable unless you see it, hitting it is hardly likely!” Lu Yubo sneered and shook his head.

The five at Dragon Head Camp looked at each other, not daring to say they didn’t believe it, but it was certainly hard to believe.

Hong the Fourth just stood there quietly, not frightened by the sudden appearance of “004,” with a certain calm acceptance of life and death…
