Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

Chapter 797 666 Should We Use That?

  • Next Chapter

“I think we should hurry and leave; this thing is too ferocious, really can’t mess with it! But why is it here, it should be dead!”

Zhao Dezhu clearly remembers 004 being ignited during the Cyan Dragon Corps’ battle against a hundred thousand zombies; could it be that it’s not afraid of fire!

“Why should it be dead?”

Shen Linrui asked the critical question.

“When we saw it, it was already ignited, slaughtering indiscriminately among the corpses and people. There’s no way we dared to stick around; we quickly fled. Generally, zombies die when set on fire, so how did this one endure? Truly bizarre!”

Zhao Dezhu scratched his head, eyeing 004 on the screen crawling motionlessly over the ruins, yet its head was clearly pointing towards their location.

“Hey, I want to ask, did Brother Zhang face as much crap executing tasks with you guys?”

Duan Wuhu was at his wit’s end, struggling to figure out the massive horde’s movements, only to have a modified zombie 004 appear from nowhere. Even transforming into 007 wouldn’t help…

Without waiting for a response, he waved his hand and said, “Let’s go, let’s go. Quick, a kilometer isn’t safe enough. Xiaowu, remember to control the drone and follow us!”

With a formidable enemy looming, if the enemy doesn’t move, we do. Time to flee!

The road ahead is blocked, but the way back is clear. Eight vehicles turned around to distance themselves from 004 and planned to wait for Frog and the other two at the west side of the city.

To allow Wu Lue to operate the drone conveniently, a driver had to be chosen between Zhao Dezhu and Hong the Fourth. Zhao Dezhu nominated Hong the Fourth, the tricycle driver, as the driver.

It turns out that as long as there are no traffic rules, driving is not difficult. Hong the Fourth easily managed his first four-wheeled vehicle drive.

“It’s useless; that dog’s spirit lingers.”

Just as the vehicle turned a corner at an intersection, Wu Lue’s voice came through the intercom.

“Brother, what do you mean by lingering spirit?”

The first reply came from Frog…

Shen Linrui rubbed his forehead and said, “Frog, this isn’t your concern; we discovered an issue on our end!”

“004 is following us!”

Wu Lue’s complexion darkened as 004 sprinted across the ruins on the screen in a bizarre posture, hardly hindered by the harsh terrain, effortlessly catching up with the vehicles.

The cars halted abruptly; since escaping was futile, it was better not to run. Interestingly, not long after stopping, 004 also ceased movement, adjusting its posture on the ruins, its head still directed towards them.

It’s like there’s an invisible line pulling both sides…

“Since early morning till now, Flash has sensed this guy—it’s followed us from Red Gully Village, previously hiding in the mountains near Cloud Dragon Valley!”

While in the vehicle, Shen Linrui conversed with Flash again, gathering more information.

Yuan Huotu questioned, “It’s a modified zombie, yet still a zombie. Zombies are meant to eat people, so why is it trailing us but not attacking? What’s its plan?”

What’s the plan?

No one knows…

But everyone understands it’s not a good sign.

“Zombies are supposed to be instinctual creatures; could they retain consciousness?” Zhou Haiquan questioned, and the remnants at Dragon Head Camp nodded, agreeing with this logic.

The four going to Mountain and Sea exchanged glances; they, too, once believed zombies lacked consciousness, but this notion has recently shifted…

Fan Donglu looked at Lu Yubo and Zhao Dezhu and gloomily asked, “Brothers, can our group of ten genuinely not handle that monster?”

Zhao Dezhu forced a smile worse than a cry: “Give me a continuously firing, recoil-free, anti-tank grenade launcher, and we can battle!”

Several people rolled their eyes, thinking, “With such a weapon, who needs you?”

004 remained in the distance, not attacking nor approaching, yet the atmosphere was incredibly tense. Suddenly, Duan Wuhu clapped his hands, his eyes gleaming as he looked at Lu Yubo and the others, “Why don’t we use that?”

The group heading to Mountain and Sea all knew what “that” meant; Zhao Dezhu subconsciously touched the bomb in his waist pouch.

“Yes, we have a powerful weapon. Damn it, let’s kill this bastard!”

Lu Yubo was suddenly energized; unfamiliar with using explosives, he’d nearly forgotten about the bomb.

“Only a tenth of the quantity, the impact range is surely limited. Although it can easily deal with regular zombies, we’ll need precise placement for 004!”

Wu Lue felt the pressure, knowing that the task would inevitably fall on him.

Duan Wuhu shook his head: “We won’t place it; we’ll set a trap, lure it—this is more reliable. What do you think?”

“Definitely, this plan works!”

“So what’s the approach, Teacher Duan? Let’s hear a plan, get things moving.”

“Folks, hold on…”

Watching the increasingly enthusiastic group of four, Shen Linrui adopted a peculiar expression and said, “From what you’re saying, it seems like there’s a way to deal with that monster, right? Mind sharing methods? We’ll coordinate to assist.”

At this point, there was nothing much to conceal. Duan Wuhu retrieved a bomb from his backpack, pointing at the screen: “This is a bomb specially made by our camp, to send it to hell!”

“Nice!”

“Will it work?”

“I think… it’s probably unwise!”

For a moment, Shen Linrui’s group of five voiced three different opinions.

Pu Chanyong fully supported it, Zhou Haiquan was skeptical, while Shen Linrui opposed.

The five exchanged glances. Although Dragon Head Camp was gone, Shen Linrui remained the leader among them, leaving him to decide.

Duan Wuhu was eager to know why it was unwise, and so he asked, “Captain Shen, why is it unwise?”

“Since early morning from Red Gully Village, 004 has been discreetly watching us. If it intended harm, why wait until now? I believe, given it hasn’t shown overt hostility, it might be unwise to provoke it. The trap plan is excellent; if successful, all problems are solved. But if it fails—I’m talking even the slightest error—and it doesn’t die, could it go berserk and start attacking?”

When possessing powerful military force, people often resort to force without considering alternatives. The group heading to Mountain and Sea fell into contemplation after hearing Shen Linrui’s concerns.

Shen Linrui’s point was valid; The Art of War’s chapter on strategic attacks states: Know your enemy and yourself, and you can fight a hundred battles without harm; know not the enemy but know yourself, one victory and one defeat; know neither the enemy nor yourself, every battle will be perilous.

Currently, it falls under “know not the enemy but know yourself,” a fifty-fifty chance of winning or losing. The odds aren’t small; the question is whether to gamble, and if lost, what will be the consequences!

On screen, 004 lay motionless on the ruins, like a mere decoration.

“Xiaowu, can we reach the camp now?”

Duan Wuhu grabbed the intercom.

Unable to decide, he had no choice but to seek guidance from higher-ups.

“No problem!”

Wu Lue set down the remote control and fetched a signal transmitter from the trunk, tweaking it before signaling Duan Wuhu to try again.

“Hello, hello, Brother Zhang, it’s me. Please respond if you receive this, please respond.”

Speaking, smoking, no matter what, Duan Wuhu’s eyes never left the screen; only seeing 004 silently idle brought him comfort.

Unlike before, instant responses were absent; two minutes passed without a reply. Wu Lue didn’t need Duan Wuhu’s instructions to immediately reconfigure the signal transmitter and adjust the frequency before calling again.

Still no response…
