Chapter 922: Kill and Steal

He was speechless. When did he ever say that he wanted to take Bai Meiyue to help him? She was the one who was determined to follow him. She told him that she was getting bored at the mansion every day and wanted to go with him; who was he to say no to her? If he had refused her, then there was a good chance that she would have run out of the safe base alone. Going with him was better than going alone, right?

"Mom, I am not bringing her along with me; instead, she is going with me—you know Yueyue, she can never stay cooped up for long." Lei Qian felt that he was being wronged left and right. What did it have to do with him if Bai Meiyue wanted to go outside the safe base and hunt zombies?

"Then you should have told her no!" Mother Lei could not help but frown. Sometimes she wanted to crack open the head of her son and see what was going on inside his head. What did he mean by saying that he had no choice but to bring Bai Meiyue with him? Was she a three-year-old child whom he could not leave behind? She was a grown-up woman; as long as he told her no, she would have understood him.

"Mom, why don’t you try and say no to her? If she is willing to listen to you, then I will take my hat off for you." he would love to see his mother trying to stop Bai Meiyue when she was determined to go out of the safe base and have her choice of fun.

Mother Lei: "..."

This time around, it was her turn to be speechless. She looked at her son as if he had lost his mind and could not help but say, "Are you trying to make fun of me? How can I say such a thing to Yueyue? What would she think of me?" Worse, she was known for her bad temper. If Mother Lei tried to stop her, there was a good chance that she would end up getting offended as well. These days Bai Meiyue was as short-tempered as a little firecracker; every time things did not end up her way, she would end up losing her temper.

When Lei Qian heard his mother’s words, he could not help but chuckle. "Mom, you are afraid of facing Bai Meiyue and yet you still hope that I will be able to take care of her. Aren’t you just trying to make fun of me? Who can say no to her now?" Even her own mother would not dare to say no to her. How would he dare to say no to Bai Meiyue?

"Who is afraid? I just don’t like the idea of making her upset when she is clearly already having a lot of trouble." Mother Lei rolled her eyes when she heard Lei Qian’s words. She refused to admit that she was scared and even pretended to chop the onion that she was holding. At that moment, she would rather look everywhere but at her son. "I have cooked some braised pork belly this morning. It has been simmering since dawn; I believe you will like it. Why don’t you have a bite before you leave?"

Xiao Wu delivered some pork belly from the slaughterhouse in the morning and she had cooked it right away because it was fresh and seemed delicious. Now that her son was leaving on a mission, Mother Lei knew that he would not be able to eat anything good for the entire week. It would be better if he ate something at home before he left.

Lei Qian had the same idea as well. Who knows when he would get the chance to eat something good again? When Bai Meiyue was out hunting, she would often go crazy and would forget that she needed to eat and sleep as well. With her beside him, there was a good chance that he might not get anything good to eat other than dried jerky.

A pot of braised pork may seem like a lot, but there were two supernatural ability users in their family who needed to eat a lot to keep their energy running. After all, they were different from normal humans.

Grandpa Lei and Father Lei had nothing against this; after all, the reason they all could live peacefully now was because they had Lei Qian and Lei Yan in their family or else they would be doing some rough labour in the safe base to earn their keep. They could eat a little and their bellies would fill up anyway but the same could not be said for the two of them, as they needed a lot of energy.

Only Second Aunt Lei and Old Madam Lei pulled a long face when they saw the pork belly getting less and less in the pot. So what if the two of them were ability users? They were their elders, and they should be allowed to eat their fill before the younger generation. However, they knew that they had just returned and they could not cause trouble. So the two of them could only snatch as much as they could. Old Madam Lei especially snatched the pieces of pork belly that were served to the old man.

Her daughter-in-law was such a bad person. She was sitting right next to the old man and yet the woman did not serve her; instead, she was serving just the old man and her husband. Where did she put this old woman in her eyes?

However, her actions were only met with more frustration and annoyance. Mother Lei looked at her mother-in-law and stepped back. There was no need to act as if they were going to be starved to death; the reason she did not give her much pork belly was because she was afraid that her mother-in-law would get a bad stomach after eating such a heavy meal, as she had been going hungry for days or so, she claimed.

Old Madam Lei’s actions naturally caused dissatisfaction among the Lei family but no one said anything. Since the old man did not see anything wrong, who were they to stop her?
