Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 963: Doomsday Death Knell (Part 2)

Even in such a serious occasion, Qin Mian almost couldn’t hold back.

Three years had passed, and under the military department’s deliberate care, although the 712 Synthetic Division was dismantled, its living forces were well preserved. People like him and Gangdan were promoted rapidly.

The messenger was also a veteran from the Shovel Company, otherwise, he wouldn’t call Gangdan by his nickname.

“Any news from the military department?”

“No.”

“That bunch of bastards on the other side doesn’t seem to know what they’re waiting for, probably nothing good. Ask if we can try engaging them.”

“Understood!”

After waiting for a while, Qin Mian realized the messenger hadn’t left, and turned his head, looking at the other’s bright eyes with confusion, “What is it?”

The messenger hesitated, “Commander, do you think…”

“Speak if you have something to say, once the fight begins, there won’t be time to talk.”

“Could Commander Su still come back?”

Qin Mian was stunned for a moment, suddenly recalling the young man who rose like a comet three years ago, the only one to ever bring light to Eternal Night. If it weren’t for his appearance, perhaps he and many others would already have lost hope.

Thinking back on those days, they felt like a dream.

When Su Huan left, he muddled through for a month, various thoughts swirling in his mind, forgetting all except for the scalding heat of the piece of braised pork.

So hot he couldn’t speak.

Qin Mian turned his head with a fierce voice.

“I don’t know, I only know if we don’t win this battle, we’re all going to die!”

The messenger nodded heavily, and turned to run towards the rear of the frontline.

After three years of bloody battles, the major command centers had already been destroyed, and the military’s command system was fragmented, dispersed across various frontlines.

Following the order of military rank and administrative level, the higher ones move forward, and the later ones replace the dead.

At this moment, inside the command post, all the senior generals of the human side were gathered, and the atmosphere was heavy and oppressive.

There were Evovlers like Nut who had just advanced to Tier Four, the last general of the Northern Alliance, and a few research academicians.

Everyone was silently listening to a soldier read a communication.

“Final communication from the Sixth Defense Line.”

“Gentlemen, I am Number Five. Fifteen minutes ago, the Fifth Defense Line was breached, within the Sixth Defense Line all administrative and logistics personnel have been converted to combatants, henceforth there are no administrative officials left within Eternal Night, the dual leadership plan self-terminated.”

“Please, Seventh Battle Line, immediately select a new marshal to take command of all Eternal Night personnel and lead the decisive battle ahead.”

“Victory in this battle, the nation survives! Defeat, the nation perishes!”

“——Six hundred thousand of the Sixth Defense Line, and the fifty million of the previous five lines all rest their souls in the Nine Netherworld, waiting to hear the victory song.”

By the end, the voice of the communications officer was hoarse beyond recognition.

General Shize stood up furiously, glaring at He Wei across from him.

“Three million, three million! A total of three million people held out for only twelve hours! Is this your delay plan?!”

The thunderous voice carried a barely detectable tremor, even an iron-blooded general from Eternal Night who had fought for five years could not hide the pain in their heart when hearing this casualty figure.

Looking at the silent He Wei, Shize grew even angrier, “Back then, I said gather everyone at the entrance for a decisive battle, but you didn’t listen, you insisted on believing in that person’s delay, delay! From three years ago to now, has anyone come in from outside?”

“He Wei! Where can you delay to now?!”

“Six defense lines have been lost, only these last two hundred thousand of us remain! Can you pull out more defense lines, can you withstand a few more advances from the other side?!”

“We have nowhere left to retreat!”

He Wei closed his eyes momentarily, then spoke in a deep voice, “Saying more is futile, it only delays the battle, according to Eternal Night regulations, we should immediately select a new marshal to command the battle.”

“Candidate, He Wei, Shize, please start voting.”

Nut looked at the two, and said calmly, “The delay strategy was determined when Marshal Geng was around, if there’s a mistake, then we all share the blame, but since the decision was made at that time, there’s no room for regret, so I choose He Wei as the new marshal.”

Everyone was shocked, but a general suddenly laughed, drawing everyone’s attention.

“The strategy was agreed upon with a vote back then when He Wei was still lying in the infirmary, this blame can’t be pinned on him.”

Then his face turned solemn, and he declared passionately, “But Nut is right, since the decision was made then, don’t regret it! Even if it’s a dead end, a path to doom, we must walk it to the end! So I choose He Wei!”

Afterwards, nobody said anything more, and they all made their choices.

With more votes, He Wei was elected as the new marshal.

Just then, the messenger delivered news of the enemy’s arrival.

Everyone fell silent for a moment, casting their gaze upon the new marshal, He Wei.

And He Wei’s gaze was fixed firmly on Shize, the latter’s eyebrows twitched a few times and he stared fiercely at He Wei before finally raising his hand in a salute filled with killing intent.

All the unwillingness and anger were squeezed between clenched teeth into four words.

“Shize, ready to obey!”

He Wei returned the salute and then began to assign tasks.

Everyone who left saluted him, and he returned the salute meticulously.

Everyone knew, this would be their last meeting, the next reunion might be underground.

…

The muzzle protruded from the trenches, soldiers clutching their firearms, silently watching a moving black mountain avalanche toward them.

Even more terrifying were the dread auras within the military formation.

With time dragging on, these auras grew stronger, even more frightening than the formation itself.

The cavalry steps quickened, like a rapid drumbeat, converging front-to-back, forming rolling thunder, and the black tiger condensed from the military formation’s killing intent roared and charged toward the military.
