Back to the 1980s: Becoming the Villain's Lucky Wife
Chapter 763: There Is a Kind of Love Called Letting Go
Xu Zhi took the photo. “This woman isn’t a relative of his ex-wife,” he said. “We looked into that while investigating her disappearance. I’ll check up on this person.”
“Mm.”
Qin Xiaolan glanced at Gao Yuan in the photo, then got out of the car without a backward glance, bought a ticket for the next flight, and flew straight to North City.
Xu Zhi then told Gu Xu that Qin Xiaolan had flown back.
Gu Xu immediately told Qin Jiao.
After getting the gist of the situation, Qin Jiao was a little worried about her sister, so she went straight to the airport to pick her up.
Qin Xiaolan was composed when she got off the plane, staying calm until she saw her older sister, Qin Jiao. Once she was in Qin Jiao’s car, she hugged her and burst into tears.
“Sis, it hurts so much.”
“I know Gao Yuan isn’t right for me, and I’ve decided to break up with him.”
“But it still hurts so much. It was my first love, and I really thought we were going to get married.”
She cried as she spoke, as if trying to weep away all her sorrow and grief.
Qin Xiaolan was, at her core, a rational person. While perhaps not as level-headed as Qin Jiao or Qin Shi, she still knew how to weigh the pros and cons and didn’t act on impulse.
Someone completely blinded by love would have thrown caution to the wind long ago, insisting on being with Gao Yuan at all costs.
After all, aside from having been married before, Gao Yuan was, in every other respect, a perfect boyfriend.
While they were dating, Gao Yuan had treated Qin Xiaolan incredibly well. You genuinely couldn’t find a single thing to fault him on.
His job, his looks, his words and actions… all were absolutely perfect.
Qin Jiao said softly, “I understand. I get it. You’re being sensible, Xiao Lan, not wanting to stake everything on love. Maybe he does love you, but like you said, he’s not right for you.”
It was precisely because she truly liked him that Qin Xiaolan was weeping so bitterly.
She cried like a child.
In the parking garage, Qin Jiao patiently waited for Xiao Lan to cry herself out. Once she had calmed down, she told her sister what had happened on her trip.
“I gave the photo to Xu Zhi.”
“Okay, what’s done is done. Don’t overthink it. But you’re in no state to go straight back to work. Come with me to Jiu Yi first. I have a private lounge there where you can wash your face and get some rest.”
“Okay, sis. Thank you. It’s winter break now anyway, and I still have vacation days saved up. I’m going to ask my supervisors at school for some time off to rest for a while. After the New Year, I’ll take Mom and Dad on a trip.”
“Alright.”
Once they arrived, Qin Xiaolan washed her face. Half an hour later, she had calmed down.
It was just about noon, so Qin Jiao had lunch for two sent over, and they ate together.
After Qin Xiaolan had completely calmed down, a tricky problem occurred to her.
She said, “Sis, I’ve decided to break up with Gao Yuan, but he has a very extreme personality. I’m worried he’ll do something to retaliate against me or my family.”
“Exactly. So you can’t say you’re breaking up because your parents disapprove, and you can’t say it’s because you don’t love him anymore.”
Qin Xiaolan was at a loss. “Then what can I say?”
Qin Jiao said, “You have to make him fall out of love with you.”
As things stood, Gao Yuan seemed very happy with Qin Xiaolan. In other words, Gao Yuan was in love with Qin Xiaolan.
Only if he fell out of love with her would Gao Yuan not do anything drastic when they finally separated.
Qin Xiaolan looked baffled. “How am I supposed to make him fall out of love with me?”
“Has he ever told you what it is he likes about you? Or are there things you’ve done that he especially liked?”
