Back to the 1980s: Becoming the Villain's Lucky Wife
Chapter 762: This Photo Is Very Important to Him
Qin Xiaolan stood by the window, looking out into the garden.
The old man was wheeling his wife back.
The old woman still clutched the ragdoll tightly.
Xu Zhi thought for a moment before speaking. “Director, could you please try to remember—did Gao Yuan do anything else whenever he visited?”
“Anything else?”
“Yes, what did he do on his visits?”
The director thought for a moment. “He came about once every six months to pay their fees. Then he’d just watch them from a distance.”
At this, the director frowned. “Yes, that’s right. It was very strange. He always stood far away and never went up to speak with his parents.”
It would have been one thing if it were just the old woman, since she isn’t lucid and can’t hold a conversation.
But the old man is perfectly lucid.
Even if the old man wasn’t much of a talker, they were still father and son. You’d think Gao Yuan could have at least stood there and talked while his father listened.
But he never said a single word.
And he always kept his distance.
We see all sorts of patients here at the nursing home, so we never really thought much of it.
After all, it wasn’t a particularly serious issue.
But upon hearing this, Qin Xiaolan knew. Gao Yuan’s relationship with his parents was bad. Terribly bad.
Maybe when he drugged them, he truly had intended to kill them.
It was utterly terrifying.
Qin Xiaolan felt that Gao Yuan was too complex. His intricacies and his deceit were slowly eroding away the love she once felt for him.
Qin Xiaolan thought of her own family—they were all so simple, so warm.
She said to Xu Zhi, “Let’s go back.”
Xu Zhi nodded and said goodbye to the director.
Xu Zhi was very thorough. He told the director that this was related to a case and asked that she not tell anyone they had been there or what they had asked.
The director nodded.
As the two of them were walking out, Qin Xiaolan suddenly stepped on something. She looked down and saw a very familiar-looking wallet…
But just as Xu Zhi and Qin Xiaolan left the nursing home and reached their car, they saw Gao Yuan, who had left earlier. He had come back!
It was Xu Zhi who reacted first. He quickly pulled open the car door, shielding Qin Xiaolan from view.
Although Gao Yuan saw Xu Zhi, he didn’t recognize him. He simply turned and walked quickly back into the nursing home.
It looked like he had lost something.
Qin Xiaolan breathed a sigh of relief. “Let’s get out of here, quickly,” she said.
“Okay.”
As the car pulled away, Qin Xiaolan looked back at the green nursing home.
She said, “Just take me straight to the airport.”
“Have you bought a ticket?”
“I’ll buy one when I get there.”
At that moment, all Qin Xiaolan wanted was to leave this place as quickly as possible and get back to her family.
Xu Zhi secretly wished Qin Xiaolan would stay a while longer so he could show her around… He had a really good impression of her.
But he knew she was in a terrible mood and probably wasn’t up for sightseeing.
He asked, “Will you be okay on your own?”
“Of course. I’m not a child anymore.” Qin Xiaolan smiled faintly. Then, when the car arrived at the airport, she took a photo out of her pocket.
There were five people in the photograph.
There was Gao Yuan with his parents, and next to him stood a young woman who must have been his ex-wife.
There was also another woman who looked to be around the same age as Gao Yuan’s parents, perhaps slightly younger.
The most important thing was that Gao Yuan bore a strong resemblance to this woman.
“Gao Yuan dropped his wallet back at the nursing home. This photo was hidden in a secret compartment inside it. I’ve seen his wallet before but never opened it. This picture has always been tucked away in there… It must be very important to him.”
