Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 1218
So even with the gazes from those around her constantly drifting over, Baili Xia no longer cared.
“Is it about the blood in my body that you want to talk to me?” she asked, looking up at Dongfang Jin.
He didn’t speak, so she had to be the one to bring it up.
Dongfang Jin nodded slightly, but still did not continue speaking.
Looking at the lake ahead, his gaze dark and gloomy, it seemed like he harbored some concerns.
He came to find her but hesitated to speak.
Was it really that hard to talk about this matter?
“Let’s find a place to sit,” Dongfang Jin suddenly said.
Baili Xia immediately left the lakeside with him, heading towards one of the pavilions in a small grove behind them.
The school was large enough, and also built to be leisurely and comfortable.
Pavilions were everywhere; finding a place to talk wasn’t hard.
It’s just that it’s now winter, and sitting under a pavilion was still somewhat chilly.
Before Baili Xia sat down, Dongfang Jin suddenly patted her on the butt.
Baili Xia jumped in fright and sprang up.
Just as she was about to scold him for his actions, she turned around and saw that he was wiping away the dust from the stone bench with his large palm.
After wiping for a while, his entire palm was dirty, but he didn’t seem to care at all.
He was only cleaning a place for her to sit, yet his sincere attitude was truly moving.
Baili Xia watched him, as if she could see again the scenes of their time together over the past two years.
He always doted on her, cherished her, and the places she would sit were always tidied up by him.
After he finished cleaning, she composed herself and walked over, looking down at his hands.
Dongfang Jin just clapped his hands together a few times, dusting off the dirt, and then paid it no more mind.
Looking up at her, he said: “Why haven’t you sat down yet? Afraid I’ll sneak another pat on your little butt?”
Baili Xia glared at him.
She had been touched just moments ago, but his words eased the embarrassment.
She sat down, adjusting the coat on her body, “Aren’t you cold?”
Dongfang Jin shook his head, his brooding eyes lacking any luster.
Baili Xia didn’t understand.
Was there some problem with the matters concerning her origins?
“Is it really that difficult to speak?
What exactly do you want to say?
Can’t you be clear?
You’re making me anxious.”
“Anxious about what?” Dongfang Jin looked at her, his expression not changing.
“I’m afraid, afraid that there might be something unpleasant behind my back.”
“Afraid of what.” He finally smiled.
A slight smile, though not exactly bright, but after smiling, the weight on his heart seemed to have lifted a bit.
“Do you really want to hear?” he asked, raising his eyebrows.
“If it’s related to me, of course.” Who wouldn’t care about their own ancestry?
“Even if this matter might sadden you, or even lead to a lot of suspicion on your part, are you willing to listen?”
Baili Xia looked at him, a trace of confusion in her eyes: “What exactly is going on?”
Dongfang Jin pursed his lips, his words faint: “What I want to say is not about the Mu family, it’s about that day…
at the hunting ground…”
“Did you find out who released the wild wolves?
Were those people really targeting me?” Baili Xia’s eyes widened in shock.
She always thought the wolves were sent to target Uncle, or at least someone with status like Jin.
What would be the point of targeting her, a mere girl?
She had no power, no influence, practically the least noticeable person.
And yet, nobody in the Mu family brought it up again; it was as if…
purposefully avoiding the subject.
